I have been takong celexa for 7 days for anxiety. Well my anxiety is far worse from before and lets just say I havent slept in days, which I never had an issue with sleeping either. Can I stop taking cold turkey since its only been 7 days, or do I have to taper off? ## After only 7 days, you can most likely just stop, but you should double check this with your doctor, to be safe. In most cases, I'd try to encourage someone to stick it out for a month or so, because side effects tend to taper off around that time as your body gets used to a medication, however, increased anxiety and insomnia are two of the most difficult problems to live with, so this most likely just isn't the right medication for you. There are others you can try, so you may want to talk to your doctor to explo...

My 16 year old son takes this in the pm. He is hard to get up in the morning, but he is cooperative. He sleeps in all of his classes, and when I pick him up from school, he is a maniac. Shouldn't he be taking a lower dose throughout the day? ## white round pills with 208 on one side and i/g on other side---has name celexa on it but doesn't look like the ones I was taking last month. ## This tablet does contain 40mgs of Citalopram, a generic for Celexa, an antidepressant. My guess would be your pharmacy just used a different supplier this time, since each companies pills have to look different and have different markings. Some of the most common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, dry mouth and headache. You can read more about this medication here: Is there anything else I...

Can anything happen taking both? ## Hello, Dee! How are you? I didn't find any problems or interactions listed between these two medications, but it's always best to double check to be sure. Celexa may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

I take 20 mg of Coreg cr at bedtime and would like to take celexa 5 mg at night also to see if it makes a difference in the weight gain I am experiencing with the Celexa. ## Hi, Carla! Sorry about the problem you're having. However, I really don't think that taking it at night is going to change the side effects that the Celexa can cause. If they're happening, they're going to happen and SSRI antidepressants are very well known for causing weight gain. Once you take it and are on it for awhile, so it's reached its efficacy level in your body, changing the time of day you take it, isn't going to stop it from occurring. If it's really becoming a problem, then you'd be better served to speak to your doctor about trying a different medication. There are some ...

I have been on 20mg of Celexa for 5 weeks now. I have noticed little difference. I have to take ativan to get through the day! When can I expect to feel better? ## It usually only takes 4 to 5 weeks to reach its full level of efficacy in your body. If there's been no improvement, then it may not be the right medication to help you and you may need to try something else. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Have you tried any others? ## Today makes 6 weeks on the Celexa. Not much difference. I have been on many other things, SSRIs, SNRIs, anti psychotics, bi polar meds. I've been on pretty much everything. I have OCD, major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety...

I just started taking Celexa tonight 2.5mg to ease into it. I am extremely sensitive to medications. I took prozac last year after devastating miscarriage. I have been off it a year and now my depression and anxiety is back with a vengeance. Help! I feel like my anxiety and depression is worse and it was a super low dose? I'm worried it won't work as I tried to go back on prozac but the side effects were too much. ## Actually, if you read the information provided by the FDA and the NIH, it is very common for this to happen, when you start taking such a medication. They can actually worsen things for about 3 weeks, or so, until your body gets used to the medication. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. However, if you feel that...

Cam celexa (citalopram 40mg) cause slurred speech? ## Hello, Dianne! How are you? It shouldn't, unless its far too high of a dose for the person, or they are having a bad reaction to it. I'd suggest the person experiencing such see their doctor immediately to get too the root of the problem. Slurred speech could be the sign of a serious medication condition, such as a stroke. The typical side effects for Celexa, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, weight changes and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

My 12 year old son began taking celexa 10 days ago (10 mg). The results are awesome. His mood is much better, no sadness, more talkative, excitement and joy seems to have returned. This morning after a couple hours at school he told me that he was getting like quick electric "zaps" in his head. They only last a second. He says they are like when someone touches you after "rubbing their feet on the carpet" type zaps. I've googled, and all I can find is that these are withdrawl symptoms from celexa. Has anyone else experienced this at the start up of this medication? Loving the results until this happened. Hoping they don't need to change his meds and this will go away. ## That can happen when someone is new to taking such a medication, it is not just a withdrawal ...

I'd been on 10 mg. Lexipro for about 3 years and felt great. But then my doctor switched me over to generic Celexa because the clinic where I get my meds no longer has Lexipro available (Forest Pharmaceuticals no longer supplies it due to costs). Since switching to Celexa, I feel awful - nervous, uptight, and obsessive. I want to try generic Lexapro because I can afford it, but I hear it's not as good as the name brand. Anyone had any luck with it? ## Hello, When it comes to generic medications it is permitted by the FDA to be allowed to contain as much as 20% more or less of the actual active ingredient as well. For some people, these so-called subtle differences are the equivalent of taking a completely different medication that may be absorbed and metabolized differently with...

Will celexa cause slurred speech? ## Hello, Dianne! How are you? If someone taking this is experiencing slurred speech, they should seek medical attention immediately. That could be a sign of a potentitally dangerous reaction to this medication called Serotonin Syndrome, which may be fatal, if left untreated. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this SSRI as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

This is hell. I'm having rage, and I mean RAGE attacks! I've been off Celexa for about one week. I weaned myself off of Celexa, while replacing it with St. John's Wort. I'm taking 2800 mg SJW to offset no Celexa, and it definitely is helping. But the rage attacks are scary. Really scary. Like road rage type scary. Help. ## While St. John's Wort is said to help with depression, and anxiety, it does not actually replace a prescription medication, since it's efficacy is not clinically proven, nor are its effects comparable to a prescription medication, in spite of the claims that are made about it. That is also a very high dosage to be taken of it, generally it is not recommended that someone take more than 1,200mgs of it per day. Thus, the greatest chance you are f...

I would like to know if anyone has had problems taking Baclofen and celexa together, I I am on 60 milligrams of Baclofen a day due to a back surgery. I just started Celexor 1 week ago 20 milligrams, and I am not sleeping well. ## Hello, Rhonda! How are you? Actually, it is most likely just due to starting the Celexa. SSRI antidepressants are well known to cause sleep disturbances for about the first 4 to 5 weeks of taking them, while your body is getting used to the medication. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was on 40 mg of Celexa for about a year when I started getting terrible night sweats - in the winter. I attributed it to a heated mattress pad for a while but nothing seemed to help, so I started researching and found that sweating can be a side effect of the drug. The strange thing is that I didn't have a problem with it until after a year of taking it! Is this possible? I saw my doc who insisted it wasn't the Celexa because I hadn't had the symptom from the beginning, but I started cutting my pills in half anyway, so now I take 20 mg a day. It seemed to help for a while, but now my night sweats are out of control again and it is driving me crazy. Is it possible for the med to build up gradually in the body and cause symptoms much later? ## Hello, Allynchica! How are you?...

I just filled my prescription and will be starting tomorrow. I'm excited but nervous as I'm on Celexa and I've read that there is a possibility of major side effects. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, insomnia, nervousness and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I'm taking contrave and Celexa. I have been on for 2 months. My last period was very very light and this month not at all. My doc put me on Celexa for depression. 10 mg. I took it two days in a row last week and I swear it made me feel sick and I felt like a zombie... So I stopped. Then after talking to a couple other doctors decided I should give it another try. I am now on day three and I feel very sad and have no motivation for anything. I feel like s***. I can't feel this way...I am a single mom of three and two of my children have special needs. I think I am going to stop taking them again. Could I be getting side effects from the Celexa or is my depression getting worse? Also last night when I was driving I was having a hard time concentrating. Also I noticed a difference when having intercourse :( I don't see anything good about this med. ## Hang in there! I have been through the same things ...

Hello all, I am currently taking 40mg of Celexa, and have been for about 7 months. I originally started taking it because I had pretty bad anxiety and I would "worse case scenario" things in my head. The celexa seemed to stop these things fairly quickly, but now I have started on 25mg of Adderall XR after being diagnosed with ADHD (im 15). The Adderall helps me to focus and my grades have been rising, the original stress and anxiety was from school and grades. I think I would like to stop taking the Celexa because I feel like I don't really need it anymore and some of the side effects scare me. Like I said I tend to worse case things, and I guess im a bit paranoid (not to the crazy extent though) about some things. After seeing stories in the news about these tragic mass mur...

Hi, For the last three weeks I have taking citalopram 20 mg (a generic of celexa) and 15mg temazapam. The first 2 and half weeks I felt great, the last few days I have had a low mood, lost my appetite and have poor memory. I was prescribed the meds since I had an emotional meltdown. I am usually a happy, alert person and I do not like how I am feeling. Has anyone taken a combination of these meds? Do you have any symptoms like the ones I am feeling? I am open to suggestions. Thank you! ## Hi Seeker, Based on my research, there are some moderate drug interactions you should be aware of while taking these two medications together. The interaction basically states that using either drug together may increase your risk of certain side effects such as impaired thinking or judgement, dizzines...
