Growth Hormone Treatment Drug Category

Growth hormone treatment refers to the use of growth hormone (GH) as a prescription medication - it is one form of Hormone therapy. Growth hormone is a peptide hormone secreted by the pituitary gland that stimulates growth and cell reproduction. In the past, growth hormone was extracted from human pituitary glands. GH is now produced by recombinant DNA technology and is prescribed for a variety of reasons. GH therapy has been a focus of social and ethical controversies for 50 years. This arti...

My daughter has stage 4 renal cell carcinoma, the cancer has metastasized to her lungs, lymph nodes and vena cava vein. She has tried both Votrient and Sutent but the cancer has continued to grow. She has seen 3 different surgeons who all agree that surgery is not a option as the risk would far outweigh any benefits. She just started the drug Afinitor and I was wondering if anyone has had positive results with this medication. Know it's not realistic to only look at good postings but she could really use a little positive reinforcement about now. So far she hasn't experienced any severe side effects but if or when they kick in I know she could handle them a lot better if she had a some hope. Any postings would be truly appreciated. ## Has she looked over the manufacturer's w...

We are interested in finding out whether abatacept has been successful in treating Giant Cell Arteritis, before joining the study group. My mother has recently lost 95% of her vision to this disease and is afraid to risk the remainder, but is resistant to the common treatment methods. All input is appreciated.

My husband has CTCL and is being told to take Targretin. Can anyone tell me if they have taken it and what side effects they had? Thank you ## Lois, There is an online support group of CTCL patients, many of whom are on Taragretin. They will be happy to share their experiences. Go to Association of Cancer Online Resources and look for the CTCL-MF group. ## Thank you, Judy for that very helpful post. It seems we haven't had a lot of people posting on here that have been using it. We do, however, have more information on the medication here: Can anyone post about experience using this drug?

Saizen Somatropin, rh-GH

Growth hormone (GH) or somatotropin, also known as human growth hormone (hGH or HGH) in its human form, is a peptide hormone that stimulates growth, cell reproduction, and cell regeneration in humans and other animals. It is thus important in human development. GH also stimulates production of IGF-1 and increases the concentration of glucose and free fatty acids.[1][2] It is a type of mitogen which is specific only to the receptors on certain types of cells. GH...

Betafectin Beta-Glucan, Recombinant

β-Glucans (beta-glucans) comprise a group of β-D-glucose polysaccharides naturally occurring in the cell walls of cereals, bacteria, and fungi, with significantly differing physicochemical properties dependent on source. Typically, β-glucans form a linear backbone with 1–3 β-glycosidic bonds but vary with respect to molecular mass, solubility, viscosity, branching structure, and gelation properties, causing diverse physiological effects in animals. At dietary intake ...
