Our Peditrician Rx this for strep throat for my type I diabetic 2 year old. We are on day four and he's been complaining of headaches a few hours after taking it. It's just once a day for a total of 10 days. I called pedi about headache and was told to give with ibuprofen. He awoke with headache again and is now vomiting and has fever again. Very miserable. After reading these side effects people are having I'm very worried of what this could mean for him in long run. i have an absess tooth and want to know if I can take Sulfamethoxazole-TMP-DS for this? ## An abcess tooth is tricky and may be dangerous depending upon the circumstances. Serious bone (i.e. osteomylitis) infections can develop if not cared for. Pen VK first, Amoxicillin is second and a third generation like Cefdinir would be an alternate choice with ampicillin allergies. Can Doxycycline be used to treat a middle ear infection? This is my second round of antibiotics. Was given Cefdinir first for 7 days & it helped but the infection is still hanging around. Sometimes doctors choose one antibiotic over another, because they know has been proven more effective at treating certain infections. For instance, while it is a broad spectrum antibiotic of the Cephalosporin class, Cefdinir has been proven most effective at treat infections of ear, sinus, throat and skin. Thus, your doctor may not want to prescribe it for a urinary tract infection. The Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim, however, has been shown to be very effective at treating urinary tract infections, so when you have one, your doctor may prefer to use it as their first choice.
