Why are my feet so dry and look like they're getting darker? It looks like broken veins, it's very dry and itchy. It also looks red and sometimes has swelling. ## The swelling might be due to edema, though only a doctor can really give you a definitive answer. Sometimes itching and dryness are due to circulatory problems, according to NIH studies. I've experienced it myself, in the past. They also warn that it could be the side effect of some medications. Do you have any diagnosed medical conditions? Are you on any medications? How bad is the swelling?

I am flushing them down the commode. I started yesterday at 300 milligrams of neurontin. I had two doses today. I was on percocet 10 mg for 4 months due to a spinal fracture and edema. I had slammed into an object and broke my nose, but the MRI also showed a spinal injury. After reading about all the side effects and experiences of other patients on these medications, i'd rather take the pain. ## What side effects are you concerned about? Perhaps those can be addressed to help you feel better/safer about taking it. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Additionally, please do not flush medications. That causes contamination of our ground water.

MY son, cousins and I were started on this medication from the cardiologists and primary doctors. We both had awful side affects with this medication. Each time when telling the doctors of the side effects the doctors wanted to continue to prescribe this medication. Extremely fatique, diarrhea, terrible chest pain, shortness of breath, excessive abdominal swelling, ecessive water retention, edema. Constant pain from legs and ankles swollen so bad that causes pain all the time making it almost impossible to stand, sit or walk. Why is it that the doctors are still recommended this medication? ## Hi Leroy, I completely agree with you that doctor's shouldn't be recommending things with so many adverse effects. To them it seems to be all about the money and not the patient's well...

I have stage 1 chf. I had a mitral valve replaced with a St Jude valve. I am taking 25 mg of Coreg twice a day. Wouldn't a pacemaker keep the heart rate up? Do I still need Coreg? I exercise regularly, eat a heart healthy diet and have no symptoms. ## Congestive heart failure is caused by fluid build up from elevated blood pressure, and usually elevated sodium levels. Your heart starts to become so stressed that it weakens and can no longer pump properly, which causes blood and fluid to back up into the lungs, a person develops edema, and usually starts to experience tiredness, and shortness of breath. Thus, it is very important to keep your blood pressure regulated, too, not just your heart rate. You can learn more on Medline Plus Heart Failure. A medication, such as Coreg, can als...

I started savella about a month ago. My Dr prescribed it for fibfomyalgia. My problem now is that I am constantly thirsty, especially at night. My pain relief has been tremendous and I have lost about 9 pounds. Has anyone else experienced being so thirsty? ## Dry mouth is a common side effect of Savella, just like it is with many medications, and that usually leads to dry throat, which causes the thirst. It's not a dangerous symptom, just annoying. In many cases it worsens at night, because people tend to breathe more through their mouths then, especially when sleeping. Unless you start drinking so much that it leads to fluid weight gain and edema, you're most likely safe to just sip liquids and moisten whenever needed, but you should double check this with your doctor to be sur...

Has anyone out there had contact with this drug company to find out why their inhaler, Spiriva, causes weight gain. I, along with many others, have had this happen only to get no clear answer as to why this problem continues. It is a terrible side effect that won't go away even after the drug is discontinued. Thank you, Bill. ## Hi, Bill! I have looked over your other post and response where you said the weight gain is all in the abdomen. It's hard to say how any medication will affect anyone that uses it, so I don't want to discount the possibility. However, the chance of it being related to edema, as I originally suggested is still a possibility. A gain in that area of your body would be due to ascites. Or it could just be age related, perhaps hormonal fluctuations, becaus...

I want to know if it's used to remove water from the body, and if it causes hair loss? How long can someone take these? ## Hello, Estella! How are you? Did you mean Hydrochlorothiazide? If so, yes it is a diuretic that is used to remove excess fluid from the body to treat conditions, such as high blood pressure, congestive heart failure, edema and some cardiac conditions. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and dehydration. Hair loss can be a possible side effect, but it is very rare. You can take it as long as your doctor deems it safe for you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with?

This my third attempt for an answer. I have been on Mobic since April 2014. Also Lyrica increased from 300 to 600 daily since August2014.I've gained weight also have off and on ankle/feet swelling. Now for 2 weeks my calfs are aching. Is one or both meds the problem Help ## Hello, Marie! How are you? I am very sorry that it's taken several posts for you to get an answer. The Lyrica is the most likely culprit of the weight gain, it is well known to cause it as a side effect, along with nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and mood swings. As to the swelling, I'd have to say that is most likely from the Mobic, since nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories can cause the fluid retention that causes edema. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased risk of bleeding an...

This medication has been known to cause edema as a side effect, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, weight changes, and mood changes. Are you on any other medications? Is shellfish the only thing that usually causes your gout? ## gout is confirmed with fluid and labs. seems like my diet does not effect when i have gout. i just stumbled upon a comment that gabapentin was potentially from shellfish and thought it might be connected ## Does gabapentin has shell fish in it
