Hi, can I use Purbac to treat Cat Flu in dogs? ## Hi can I use purbac to tret cat flu in dogs ## Hello, To answer your question, Antibiotics are used to treat bacterial infections. They are not effective against viral infections like the flu in humans or animals. Have you taken your pet to a vet to get checked out yet? I would think they should be able to prescribe something that is more suitable for at least managing any flu-like symptoms. I hope this helps!

My 40lb Cattle Dog got ahold of my lasix pills I take for a heart condition. I cannot account for several 20mg pills. Are these pills toxic for dogs, and should I take him to the vet? Any advice would be helpful. ## On this I have to say: Yes, please contact your veterinarian! Our site, the available information and any knowledge of my own pertains only to the use of medications in humans. There are some medications that can be used cross-species, with dosing adjustments, but not all can be used safely in dogs. In addition, with the fact that he may have swallowed several, he could end up dangerously dehydrated very fast. My 12 year old cat was prescribed Torbutrol for when we travel. I like the vet but another vet in the same office couldn't explain why that was the med prescribed, as according to the 2nd vet, usually for pain...not travel. I'm confused, tried researching this only to find most info. about the drug pertains to dogs or sick cats. Can anyone give me any help, information, experiences...please? We're flying out tomorrow and I'm running out of time. I don't want to cancel. Help ## Unfortunately, I can only suggest that you consult the prescribing veterinarian. The information I have available is only referenced to the usage of medications and their effects on people and these details can be quite different. Have you tried calling them?

My dog has an ear infection and I have some bactrim ds that I couldn't take. I was wondering if he could take this medicine and what dosage would I give him? He weighs 23-25 lbs. ## Hi Kat, When it comes to potent antibiotics such as Bactrim, I feel it is vital to contact an experienced veterinarian who can assess the dog's condition in person first and then make an appropriate medical decision based off their evaluation. Just to add, Bactrim is in fact prescribed to dogs and cats alike for various types of infections. My only concern is that Bactrim tends to cause a lot of side effects in humans, so I can only hope that your dog has a positive response to it. If you have a moment, please post back on how things are going with treatment. ## How much bactrim should I give my 60lb...

Can I use this for my dogs ear infection? If I can how much per day and for how long? thank you ## Hi Cin, Are you referring to Cephalexin perhaps? If so, based on my research this medication is an antibiotic that is used both in dogs and cats to treat bacterial infections. Side effects can include (but are not limited to): diarrhea and vomiting. The dosage for your dog should only be determined by your veterinarian to be sure you don't give him/her too much or too little. The dosage can vary depending on certain factors like weight, severity of the condition, and medical history. round, peach color, 634 on one side , FD on the other ## Hello, Mcgiver! How are you? This tablet contains 5mgs of Butorphanol, which is an opioid analgesic. This tablet is most commonly prescribed for cats and dogs, because the tablet form has a very low level of bioavailability in humans. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It also carries the risk of being habit forming. Is there anything else I can help with?

Has anyone else seen the video from UpWorthy about Depression? "What Is Depression? Let This Animation With A Dog Shed Light On It." It's a really great video that I can definitely relate to, sometimes it feels like no one understands what it really means to be depressed. I am very grateful for the depression I've experienced, it was like a catalyst in my life. 80 lb dog = how much amoxicillin? ## I have 250mg Amoxicillin capsules, but my dog only needs 60mg. How would I handle this? Rocky weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I believe I calculated the dose correctly. ## Can the Amoxicillin 400 mg (bmp 196) green tablets be crushed and mixed with food to give to my dog? ## How much amoxicillin tr k clv 500/125 is safe for an 8lb dog? She has skin irritation after her cycle. ## Hello, According to the NIH "The recommended dose of amoxicillin in dogs and cats is 5-10mg/pound" so a dog who is 80 lbs should have 400-800 mg. Since this is such a wide gap I suggest you call into your vet office and see what they suggest, typically if they have your animal on file they will have a good estimate of what they should have. Best wishes and happy holidays.

Gave my chihuahua half of this pill, looking for more information on it. ## Hi mocha, Do you know what the name of this pill is that you gave your dog? Perhaps even a vague description of the pill itself? I was going to look up the brand for more information, but there are a wide variety of different treatment options for parasites. My dog was prescribed 1ml twice daily. ## Well, to be honest, this website is geared for medication information and the effects in humans, there really isn't a lot here about using anything in animals. Just wanted to know can i use triamcinolone acetonide cream on flea bites on my neck. ## Hello, Freddie! How are you? Wow! How many times did they bite you? I've always hated fleas, because they can bite multiple times and they are so hard to get rid of, totally annoying pests. Years ago, I had a cat that became anemic due to flea bites, even though I'd treated him with flea preventatives, they didn't work, after a nice vet bill, I discovered that I needed to use a more potent one on him, and they had me use one for small dogs. As to the cream, it may help with the itching, if your doctor approves of your using it, however, according to the FDA, it may also cause itching as a side effect, along with skin dryness, cracking, burning and rash.

Is their a cheeper substitute replacin HYCODAN for a small dog? ## There are other alternatives for replacing Hycodan. I am not certain about the pricing, as it will vary with most retailers. But here are a few substitutes you may be interested in taking a look at; I am not a vet, nor an MD, but the following drugs are what I researched to be some of what other people are giving to their dogs under similar circumstances: Butorphanol (Torbutrol)..for coughing Theophylline..to help with breathing Chlorpheniramine..for allergies in small dogs and cats. Please post back if you have any concerns or trouble locating a specific drug, and I will be happy to assist you.

Does concerta cause a vit d defiency, vit a elevation, gluten and casien allergies? My daughter shows no symptoms to any of the above but blood tests show these results. Thankyou ## Hello, Bonnie! How is your daughter doing? No, none of those are listed as being side effects of Concerta, by the FDA. It's usual hepatic side effects are listed as including lowered blood cell counts, anemia and easy bruising. What were the numbers that were shown? Sometimes the allergy ones are detected at very low levels, so while the allergy exists, someone doesn't experience symptoms from them. For example, my mother-in-law tested as being allergic to both cats and dogs, but the one for cat dander was slightly higher and different than the one for dogs, so she is able to live with pups just fine.

My dog was prescribed the same xanax i am taking. 1 mg G3721...is it the same medicine for dogs as it is for humans? ## Dear Mary, yes, sometimes they prescribe the same medications 4 animals as they do 4 humans. My cat went through cancer surgery years ago and they prescribed her Buprenoxone 4 pain. And, I've heard of them prescribing anxiety meds as they do 4 humans. ## That must be one hip vet! I needed to take Dog Lamisil once and it was the same pill used in human consumption. I had a side effect and needed to stop, barking! ## Dogs can now get xanax, tramadol, and many other prescription pills for anxiety now. Most are the same as humans. In veterinary medicine, dosages go by the weight of the animal so I'm sure that dosage would be way different from a human dose but same...

is lisinopril safe for dog use an what is doseage per dogs weight? ## Hi sara, Lisinopril is not FDA approved for use in veterinary medicine, however it is still being used for veterinary purposes. From what I've read, it has become an accepted practice for veterinarians to prescribe this medication to cats and dogs. It is prescribed for the treatment of heart failure, high blood pressure, certain types of heart valve disease and some forms of kidney disease. Lisinopril does require a prescription from your veterinarian, and is sold per tablet. I would speak with your veterinarian in regards to the dosage, since only he/she will know the correct amount for your dog based on his/her weight and medical history. I hope this helps!

Can you give human Amox tr cla to cats with inflammation gums. ## Hi Katlady, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium (Amox TR-K CLV) is a prescription antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. And yes it is something that may be prescribed by veterinarians to cats/dogs alike in respective dosages. However, according to Dr. Foster and Smith Pharmacy, the human form of this medication reportedly contains more Clavulanate than the veterinary form. Taking that into account, I think it'd probably be best to let a vet determine how much is safe via an in person evaluation. Hope your cat is doing well since you last posted!
