I have ulcers that are not healing and my MD prescribed Carafate but I broke out with severe hives. Is there any alternative? ## Hello eleni, There are alternatives out there but it is unwise for me, or anyone on the internet, to recommend you take any type of medication especially when you had an allergic reaction to a previous brand of this type. I recommend contacting your doctor to see if they can determine what you were allergic to and see if they need to bloodwork to determine what the best route to take is next. I started pristiq 4 weeks ago, not very effective for depression, I take carafate for gastritis 4 times a day too-can it interfere with the antidepressant?? I am thinking it is even though I take it 1-2 hours later than pristiq-I am not responding as I normally do. Thanks, Sandy Maz ## It can take as long as 6 weeks for a medication like Pristiq to reach its full effectiveness in your body, so it could be that it just hasn't reached its peak potential for you, yet. Have you discussed it with your doctor? There is nothing listed about their being a known problem between it and the Carafate, but you should talk to your doctor about it to be certain.

i just want to know if medicade covers carafate in wi ## Hi Brenda, Looking at Medicaid's "Preferred Drug List" for Wisconsin (which was reportedly updated as of 9/26/2014), I'm not seeing Sucralfate (Carafate) listed on there at all. Ref: forwardhealth.wi.gov/WIPortal/Tab/42/icscontent/provider/medicaid/pharmacy/resources.htm So it seems like you may have to actually ask your doctor about an alternative medication for preventing/treating ulcers (which is what this medication is indicated for). If you visit the link above and click on "Preferred Drug List Quick Reference", just scroll down to the last page (#13) and it will have a list of approved medications used for treating "Ulcerative Colitis". Ive been diagnosed with erosive gastritis. Before the diagnosis I was on prilosec 20 mg for 7 months. The acid went away but I was waking up in the middle of the night in excrutiating pain that felt like a heart attack. Doc put me on 60mg of dexilant and carafate 4 times a day. It worked the first 3 weeks to reduce the acid and pain but the lump in my throat won't go away and food feels like it won't digest. Now this past week, I feel acid in my throat again after 9 months and a scraping pain throughout the day. I've been on the new meds for 5 weeks. Does it sound like I need a different medication?
