I have been taking candestartan for several years starting at 4mg and then halving the tablets to 2 mg and with consultation with my GP along with some lifestyle changes have agreed to stop altogether with close blood pressure monitoring. So far BP is 120/70 most days and all is well apart from a background headache which doesn't seem to go away. Could this be due to the stopping of the medication? My wife wonders if I'm not drinking enough h2o during the day. ## Hello, Mike! How are you? I have suffered from high BP since 2006. Until 6 months ago too bendroflumazide and candesartan in low doses. I was advised to stop the bendroflumazide and continue with candesartan. This did not control BP and the dose was increased and I could not tolerate it at 16 mg due to serious joint pains. The dose was halved and in addition I was given 10 mg of lercandipine. I suffered swelling in my joints and legs and ultimately could not tolerate it. For a short while after I remain on 8 mg of candesartan. The swelling in my left leg did not alleviate and following an MRI scan I was found to have Sonk in my left leg .. ( blood marrow swelling ) with no medical reason and yet prior to tablets I was very physically fit and well with no injury. I have now had knee surgery to alleviate the sympt...

I have just been prescribed Lercanidipine and Candesartan for my BP and was told not to take Ramapril anymore because of a cough I have had for about 3 months reading the side effects on both of these medicines it says a cough is likely is this true as I want to get rid of my cough and not prolong it. I have had a CT scan and the hospital have put it down to the Ramapril I was taking. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you. ## The Ramipril cough is dreadful. That said, having been on it for several years myself, I can say that no, that is not normal. Have you consulted your doctor? Do you monitor your blood pressure regularly? I get a pounding heartbeat after taking my Candesartan. Lasts for about 6 hours. I have been on Candesartan for about 3 to 4 weeks now (8mg) in addition to Amlodipine. I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon as I have awful back pain and joint pain. I can’t do any housework or get on with my life as I feel so rigid. Hi. I have been on 4 mg of Candesartan for 2 weeks. I had to stop Amlopidine because of shortness of breath. I have had palpitations and now look like I am 6 months pregnant and feel bloated. I've been on Candesartan for two weeks, in addition to long standing BP prescriptions for Bendroflumethiazide and Amlodopine. Side effects since starting Candesartan include sore neck on left side, sore arms, headaches, stuffy, itchy, runny nose and tiredness. Does anyone else have these, and if so, did they get better? My 78'year old dad just started taking candesartan and has experienced severe leg cramps. His,Doctor,just switched him to this medication to try to see if it could help with his persistent cough and hoarse voice. ## I am so sorry about what your dad is experiencing. Has there been any change? Severe leg cramps may be caused by low potassium levels, which is something this medication may also help with. How long has he been taking it? Since mid Feb. 2015, I have tapered my BP meds (candesartan-16mg from 32mg; HCT-dropped from 25mg; Amlodipine-5mg) on my PCP's advice as it appears to be increasing my blood creatinine levels. Although my BP has remained normal (117/68 p66) since and indeed gone down, I continue to experience intermittent/sporadic 'burns/tingles' on various parts of my left arm (e.g., outside elbow, fingers, triceps, above wrist, etc.) and upper shoulder. Also, sometimes, I feel activity/heat in my left chest area. My PCP and cardiologist say that as long as my BP is okay and I am able to sustain my workouts that I should not worry. My weekly exercise routine is; 3 hours of heavy weightlifting, 2 hours of singles tennis, 2 hours-biking, and 80 minutes on an elliptical. My heart does not feel...

I understand your concern, many people worry, when they are prescribed multiple medications. However, the relevant question is, while taking them, what are your blood pressure levels and your heart rate? And how high was your blood pressure before taking them? If someone's blood pressure is dangerously high, they are often prescribe multiple medications to bring it down safely as fast as possible to get them out of danger. Then once they are stable at a lower blood pressure level, medications can be stopped or changed, as needed.
