My oncologist thinks I take too much pain meds, 130 mg MS Contin , dilaudid 4mg, and Percocet for break through pain every 4 hours. The MS Contin is 2 times daily. After I take the MS Contin I start getting breakthrough pain about 1 1/2 hours. He said there is no way I can take that and be awake. Had to sign contract no one else can prescribe me pain meds. And I have to be subjected to drug panels to make sure I'm taking them! Hell yes I Am taking them. I just want some reliefs so my QoL will be better and I can live before I die. ## Hello, Mack64! How are you doing? I am so sorry that you're suffering and about the hassles your doctor is giving you. That is very unusual, they are supposed to liberal prescribing to cancer patients, with intractable pain, and you should be dosed ...

I really need some advice here. I am a cancer patient with a rare tumor. I have taken OxyContin 60MG and OxyCodone 5MG for breakthrough for over 10 years. My DR and I agree it is time to try other medications as I need more pain relief. I do not yet know how many MG he will prescribe for any of these medications. I realize that it would be easier to help answer my questions but any input in general I appreciate. He has given me 3 different meds to choose from: Ms Contin , Morphine & Methadone. Hoping to get others opinions on these. Whether it's regarding pain relief, side effects, etc. Whether it's just about the medication or about in comparison to my current pain meds. I think he will keep me on the 5mg Oxycodone for breakthroughs ( although not positive. ) ANY and ALL th...

Is it ok for me to take this pill. I take the drug anastrozole, the generic form of arimidex? ## Hello, Carol! How are you? With a complicated medical history, it would be best for you to check with your doctor, before taking any medication, even something that's available over the counter. Medications that are used to treat cancer can be very, very touchy and react with many other drugs and substances, so it would be best to be as safe as possible about it. Is there anything else I can help with?

"Purdue Pharma recently announced it is conducting clinical trials on OxyContin in children. Immediately some have criticized, suggesting that the exposure to opioids at an early age will inevitably lead to addiction later in life. The larger issue that was missed is that there are times opioids are necessary for children. Children in intensive care units, emergency rooms, post operatively or in rehab often require strong analgesics. These are children with cancer, with severe burns, with sickle cell anemia or other conditions. It would be cruel and inhumane to leave children untreated who experience extraordinary amounts of pain. Of course opioids should not be the first line of therapy if an alternative is available, but they may be the only way to provide relief. So the question ...

I had a righ neck dissection 2 weeks ago from thyroid cancer and also dealing from TMJ at the same time. TMJ pain so bad I can even explain it. Ear pain jaw pain face pain neck pain. 4 mg hydromorphone doesn't work every 4 hours for this pain. Anyone else dealing with this TMJ pain or thyroid cancer surgery?? I will be seeing my doctor next week to ask him what my options are for this pain. It's just not enough. ## Hello Chris! How are you? For the TMJ pain, your best bet would be to see a dentist, rather than your GP or surgeon. For the best results and best pain relief, you need someone that has been specially trained to deal with that. Do you grind your teeth at night? ## Hi Verwon. I do grind my teeth at night and use a mouth guard. It helps a little with pain. My dentist ju...

My dr said they were limiting prescribing oxys to just cancer patients, took me off oxy 30s and now im on 4mg hydromorphones. Pain doesn't stop. What can i do? ## My pain Dr.told me they got a memo stating that they were no longer allowed to prescribe Oxy's to any patients that were not cancer or terminally ill. So I was taken off Oxy 30s and put 4mg hydromorphone as my NEW (again for the fourth or fifth time) pain "management" medication. I always try to be tolerant of there educated ideas but I tire of there gross disregard of my comfort and the fact that i am the one that has to live in pain and agony when their new drugs don't work and me and my family have to pay the price...It took over a year to find relief and now it starts all over again. Can anyone tell me ...

I had breast cancer and I'm on letrozole and Co etidrocal and it causing me a lot of pain on my left side were I had breast cancer how can I get relief from the pain ## Hello, Brenda! How are you? Medications, such as CO Etidrocal are well known to cause these types of side effects in some people that take them. As listed by the FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness and headaches. There really is no relief for it, so to speak, you may need to stop taking it or switch to a different medication. Have you informed your doctor of the problem? ## I had to stop talking it because I was in a lot of pain

I have been on Fentanyl for pain of cancer treatment side effects & have been reducing from 400mc & down to 25 mc without any side effects. After 48 hours of last dose I have been having involuntary leg movements, first on left for 12 hours. Had a little relief and upon eating and taking normal medication, I began vomiting and got involuntary leg movements on right side. Are these withdrawal symptoms? Do I need to go in to a doctor? I have no small dose of Fentanyl left to take. Only 100 mcg doses. ## Have you consulted your doctor, yet? Those can be withdrawal symptoms, but it is always best to check with your doctor to be sure. In addition, they may be able to advise you on how to alleviate them, until the medication has fully processed out of your body. ## these are almost de...

my husband has cancer and also has severe back pain due to many surgeries. He has taken 3 80 ml oxy three times a day. He was recently put on hospice and changed to 2 20 ml methadon twice a day and 1 once a day plus 30ml oxy for breakthrough. He dosent seem to be getting the relief he needs but the nurse insist that is plenty. He also seems to be suffering from withdrawals. Should I be concerned with the dosage change of his meds? ## Yes, if he's not getting adequate pain relief, then of course you should be concerned. There is no reason for them to restrict him, if he has a possibly terminal illness, the DEA doesn't even recommend such for those with possibly terminal cancer. It has been proven, via various studies detailed by the NIH, that it does not hasten death, but provide...

Pain medication ## I switched to OxyIR 5mg-1 every 6 hrs & Oxycontin 20mg-1 per 12hrs about a year ago. I have severe Fibromyalgia, have had 4 back surgeries, cancer AND Hepatitis C. Oxy. is NOT filtered through the liver. The '20mg' is used to EXTEND the relief of the 5mg. I was previously taking Percocet 10/650. The OxyIR doesn't seem to work quite as well, but I feel safer, because Percocet contains so much acetamenaphin (tylenol) and goes directly thru the liver that wasn't good for ME. As I previously stated, I switched to OxyIR about a year ago, but have been on this type (combination) of meds for 8 yrs now. It doesn't make me high, or any of the OTHER things, even professionals, (nurses) assume. It simply relieves my pain. I'm still amazed at the react...

Having problems with these doing much for relief. Tying to come back from cancer and other medical problems. Here they are just aspirin. ## Hi Larry, Will they not prescribe you anything else but this mid-level Vicodin? I find it odd that patients without such conditions have access to much stronger pain medications. Although I wouldn't wish those addicting opiates on anyone, sometimes intervention is necessary to get the initial relief you need. If your doctor is unwilling to prescribe what you feel you need, then it may be time to switch doctors to someone who specializes in pain management. The odds of getting a stronger medication are higher through a pain management doctor, since they focus most of their attention on pain, as opposed to a general M.D. I hope this helps! ## Hydr...

My father is diagnosed with spinal comoression fracture, the mass possibly metastasized from prostate cancer. His doctor prescribed mosegor for something like sleeping or pain relief. Because he is suffering from pain and sleeplessness he is constantly requesting to take a capsule even after he had taken them. We refuse to give him outside the doctor's dosage of one capsule a day. Can we allow him to take say 2 to 3 capsules a day? Please reply... ## Mosegor Vita contains Pizotifen and a complex of B vitamins, it is most commonly used to treat or prevent migraines. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, drowsiness, and weight gain. No, his dosage should not be changed, without the approval of his medical provider. She is on pain management of 53 mg/ml/hr of hydromorphone iv . Is this too much? ## Hello, Dwaycott! How is your mom doing? When it comes to pain relief, it is best to leave the dosing up to her doctors. I understand your concern, but there are many medical studies that have shown that higher doses of narcotics to make the people more comfortable in such situations don't hasten death. side affects if put into a patient without cancer ## Just to clear this up.... Dilaudid is not just a medication for cancer patients. It contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, which is a very potent narcotic opiate that's used to relieve pain, so it can be used by anyone that's in need of relief for severe pain, whose doctor has prescribed it. You can learn more Dilaudid details here. However, it will most likely cause some side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and constipation, since it is an opiate. Are there any other questions?
