My boyfriend takes high dosage of oxycontin and oxycodone through pain management doctor. He had to get his prescription early because he took too many the first 3 weeks. His doctor gave him a urine test today when he picked up his prescription early. He told the doctor he was going out of town so he could get them. He was only able to take a small dosage last night...no where near his normal prescription but up until yesterday was taking very close to his normal dosage. I am wondering what kind of test they would be running. If they run a level type test and since he was only a day of taking a smaller dose will the level show up as what he is supposed to be taken? He started to go into a withdrawal state last night. If it shows up as too low will he be kicked off pain management? I am ...

Is this a prescription pain drug.? ## The correct spelling is OxyContin. ## My cousin was prescribed this drug for a minor back problem and got addicted. He tried to stop tons of times. He died last summer of mixing the drug they gave him to help him quit with this drug. I warn anyone out there, please do not take this drug no matter how much pain you are in! ## Actually, when used properly under a doctor's supervision this is a very good drug to handle chronic pain conditions. It helps many people who have exhausted other treatment options. I am very sorry to hear about your cousins death, a true tragedy and one of many that have happened due to misuse of this drug. Oxycontin should NEVER be prescribed for someone who only needs short term pain relief for a minor problem. It should...

Yesterday my doctor wrote me a prescription for "Oxycontin 20mg tablets" When I got to shoppers I was told they no longer make that medication. I was looking to get the generic oxycontins that I know are now available in Ontario. My doctor does not know much about this medication, and I am curious if she needs to write the prescription out differently. (I am thinking the generic name for oxycontin is oxycodone) Does anyone know for sure? As I have an appointment at the end of January and would be able to get the generic oxycontins that help relieve my chronic pain. I just need to be able to tell my doctor what the generic name is. Thank you in advance for all your help. ## Hi Mac, Oxycodone and Oxycontin are actually a little bit different. Oxycodone is an immediate release vers...

Never had a problem getting my monthly prescription for 20mg OxyContin filled at Walgreens. Just brought my prescription in to my regular Walgreens pharmacy and they told me they have not gotten shipment in weeks due to back log and change in supplier in the area. Aventura, Florida. Anyone have an idea where I can get my script filled. I have a legitimate prescription and have taken 2 to 3 per day for legitimate spinal stenosis. Without them I can't function very well because of the severe pain ## I dont know where you live but i live in michigan and i go to champain pharmacy in allen park the pharmacist there is really nice and you may be able to work something out with him about shipping. Or you can call around to different pharmacies in your area and sometimes they will special o...

Hi, I'm prescribed 80mg Oxycontin from my doctor. My other Doc writes me a prescription for 60mg Oxycontin a week later. Both get filled and paid for by my insurance, since they are different milligrams insurance covers it. Is this legal? ## In Nj I can tell you it is illegal because you are only allowed to attend one pain mgt doc that can prescribe morphine based opiots. ## That is not correct, for a dosage change, it is perfectly legal. Most insurance plans will cover a dosage change. The problem, however, may arise in getting the same pain medication from multiple doctors, especially a narcotic. This is considered doctor hopping and is considered illegal. If one doctor prescribed it, then any dosage change should be made by the same doctor. In most cases, if you were taking a 60m...

My wife has been in pain management for 12 + years. She is on 20 mg x 3 a day. What is the protocol for filling long term prescriptions we are having a problem getting hers filled the way they are written. For the last year he has written her a prescription for six months (six different prescriptions dated monthly) since she is one of his most stable patients. This saves us on office visits and she is subject to random drug panels. There has been no problem filling them for the past year until today, the pharmacy is refusing to fill them as written. ## Hello, Scootchy! How is your wife? Yes, they are not supposed to be post-dated and the pharmacy isn't supposed to fill them like that. According to regulations, she should be seen by her doctor each month and a new prescription writte...

i have been taking oxycontin # 60 for 3 yrs now due to 4 back surgeries. i cannot find where to fill my script right now here in calif. i have been using Walgreens. i just need to know what Walgreens has in stock. Or where i can go to fill. been out for 3 days and i'm feeling the effect right now. {edited for privacy} ## Hello, Linda! How are you? I'm sorry, but there are no listings of what pharmacy has any given medication in stock that I can refer to for you. The only way to find out is by physically going to the pharmacies, with your prescription in hand to ask. However, you Walgreens should be able to check with others to see if they have it, which would save you some running. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effec...

Can we order Canadian Oxycontin legally? I heard Canada and the rest of the world has Oxycontin under different names. ## Actually no, it isn't legal to do so. If there is an approved U.S. version of the same medication then it is not allowed. If you were staying in another country and it was prescribed for you there, you can bring up to 3 months worth of a medication back with you, as long as you have a legal prescription. The only way it would be legal is if all treatment options available in the U.S. have failed for a person for some reason or aren't available and medications that may help them are only available from a foreign country. Are there any questions or comments? ## No is the short answer , the drug ( All Drugs inbound ) to the usa , MUST have the USP label on it. T...

I pulled a good one. My RXs were not in sync; one for extended release one week and the other immediate release the next. So I'm out waiting and going through hell. All because I let my pharmacy only give me enough for 3 weeks. Now they say they can't give me the ones they kept. I really didn't know it was going to be that way. Has anyone ever had this happen? ## Yes, that is normal pharmacy policy for controlled substances. You'll need a new prescription from your doctor to get the rest, or to wait until your next fill time. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## It just...

My husband is on OxyContin because he is disabled is there anyway to fill out a form for help of payment for these? Every year we try to find an insurance company to help out with paying for these and they are way over our heads. ## Purdue Pharma does have a patient assistance program, that may be able to help you, but only if you have no other type of prescription insurance. The other criteria include that you must be a U.S. resident and have an income at, or below 200% of the federal poverty level. His doctor would need to request an application and there are sections that both the doctor and patient have to sign, the doctor then sends the application with a prescription attached. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the medication will be shipped to your home. To get the application...

Can you get a prescription from 2 different doctors that prescribe different mg dosage of Oxycontin and have insurance cover it? ## You may get away with it for awhile..But trust me it will catch up with you eventually. Now if you use different RX insurance companies or pay cash for one....then it may be a little harder for the insurance companies to track. But however in Michigan I know for a fact and see it every time I get my Rx filled at the doctors that they have a computerized DEA print out sheet of the pharmacies that you get your pills from the time date quantity etc. Now if these doctors have made you sign a opiate contract with them NOT to use any other physicians for opiates other than himself or there office and only use one pharmacy .... And you choose to void that opiate c...

My friend is in nursing home/ rehab center, can 80mg oxycottnin be unmarked from thier faciliyy? ## When you mention that the oxycontin is unmarked, do you mean the pill itself or the prescription bottle? If it's the bottle and not the pill, then I would question whether or not one of the caregivers removed the label. It's just unlawful/unethical to have prescription bottles lying around without any way to decipher what it may be, and it certainly wouldn't be sold this way at any legitimate US pharmacy.
