On Carvedilol and was on Amlodipine for years. Blood pressure was increasing lately, so Dr changed Amlodipine to 10 mg. This caused flushing in face, ankles swelling, etc. Then took off Amlodipine completely and added Lisinopril. Have backache, nervousness, darkened urine, and dizzy on this. What is the safest blood pressure medicine to use? I’m sensitive to most medications... ## All blood pressure medication has side effects. What works for me may not work for you. There are so many of these meds it's really hit and miss till you find the right meds. I've been on about 8 different ones over the past 7 years and each of them has good and bad. Lisinopril I was on for 4 years, worked ok...good luck. ## Carl is correct, there is really no "safe" medication, they all ...

I am taking a medication for high blood pressure and want to know if I can take vitamins? ## Your best bet would be to check with your doctor or pharmacist, there are several factors that must be considered, including the type of vitamins, what prescription drug you are taking and etc.

I am currently taking Verapamil 300mg, lisinopril 20mg and avalide 300mg. Can i take propoxyph darv-n 100 with these meds? ## My perscription is propox/apap 100/650 1 or two tabs every 4 hours as needed. Other meds arel lovastatin, lotrel, hctz with one 325mg aspirin each day. Is this OK with the opiate above? ## I think the primary concern here would be the APAP, which stands for Acetaminophen, being coupled with the Aspirin that you are already taking. These can both result in blood thinning and combining the two could cause stomach irritation and ulcers. Using it in conjunction with the blood pressure meds means that some extra monitoring of your BP and pulse rate should be done, while you are using, since it can cause depression of these bodily cycles, which means you could end up wit...

Hi. I have been taking 1 Metoprolol 50 mg 3 times a day, Estropipate 1.5 mg once a day, Allopurinol 100 mg once a day & Amlodipine 10 mg once a day & then my kidney dr put me on Chlorthalidone 1/2 in the morning and then my Blood Pressure has gone down but this morning I took Metoprolol at 7:00 this morning & 1/2 of Chlorthalidone this morning at 8:30, my BP has been anywhere from 130/93 to 149/104 & now since yesterday it's been 113/79 pulse 67 - 126/70 & pulse 67 with food. Do I continue taking them this way? Can Metoprolol & Chlorthalidone & Estropipate & Allopurinol be taken at the same time? ## If your doctor has prescribed them all for you, you should follow their instructions. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea,...

Hi. My husband has just got home from a 7 day stay in the hospital, where he was diagnosed as having a large blood clot in his shoulder and a smaller one behind his knee. He is an insulin dependant diabetic, VERY overweight (at the moment at least. That one, we are going to work on asap). Tests yesterday revealed the clots have responded very well. He has been placed on an initial dosage of 4mg of sintrom daily, and has been given sintrom in the hospital. The doctors were obviously aware of the insulin (and metformin) medications, also that he has meds for high blood pressure. Reading the advisory with the sintrom, I couldn't find any counter indications to his medication regime. Having checked the internet advice I am now very concerned that he's going to have adverse reactions...

I used to have good blood pressure relief with Atacand HCT 32 strength . The doctors now seem to prefer lisinopril. I thought they were very similar and am thinking of asking to switch back. Has Atacand fallen out of favor for some reason? ## No, it hasn't fallen out of favor, per se, but doctors do tend to prefer to prescribe the medications they are most familiar with. I've been in the ER before and had a doctor give me an attitude questioning the medications I am on, because one is Atacand and it's just not the first choice to be used, anymore. However, I refused to let them make changes or carry on about it, figuring that my cardio doc knows best and she really worked closely with me for about a year, until we found the right medications for me that worked, without makin...

I need a list of blood pressure medications that do not contain sulfa as I have an allergy to sulfa and so far have been on 4 different meds that all made my throat swell. I took: Lisinopril, Amlodipine, Metoprolol, Methyldopa. So it’s generic or sulfa that’s the problem in these. ## How severe was the swelling? Was this diagnosed by a doctor? Did you go to the ER for treatment? It isn't that they all contain sulfa, it is that they might be based on it, somewhere down in their roots of derivation. In many cases, the only thing you can do is try medications, to see which ones work for you, and which ones cause a bad reaction, according to FDA warnings. Was the swelling bad enough to cause trouble breathing? I am not trying to be mean, or say I don't believe you, but m...

I accidentally took my blood pressure medication (Atenolol 100mg / Chlorthal 25mg) twice within 1 hour. What should I do? ## While it is always best to check with your prescriber, or pharmacist, in most cases there won't be any severe issues from accidentally doubling up just once. According to NIH reports, it usually just causes the side effects to be a little more severe, so you may experience more nausea, dizziness, headache and urination than usual. How are you doing, now? Did you experience any adverse issues? ## I jst took my meds htz 100 and carbedidol 50 twice in One day 8 hrs apart.

I was prescribed cyclobenzaprine 5mg 3 times daily as needed for discomfort and diclofenac pot. 50mg once daily. My complaint was neck and shoulder pain. I was given an xray and was told it could be degenerative joint disease. I take Valsartan/hctz half of a 25mg pill. I took all 3 the other morning and what I would describe as butterfly feeling in my chest like 40 minutes after taking it. Should I stop taking it and call my dr.? It was the 1st time I had taken all 3. ## Hello, Mick! How are you? The Diclofenac can affect your blood pressure medication, so it may not work as well for you. That may be what caused this symptom. Yes, it would be best to speak to your doctor about the issue. They may want to adjust your dosage, or prescribe another medication. As listed by the FDA, Valsarta...

Cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors (24 hrs of coughing) nor calcium channel blockers (little help; leg swelling). On Benicar HCT and have persistent sinus problems and coughing that do not respond to allergy or sinus medications. Doc insists that the benicar is not the reason! Anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? ## I have the same problem, am on Norvacs...a nurse friend told me it was probably the bp meds but I can find nothing to substantiate that. Help!!! ## Is it safe to take 2 pyridoxine 25mg plus 1 bilocor 5mg twice daily, over 50yrs female to lower blood pressure? ## Yes, these medications have been known to cause sinus issues, as reported by the FDA, which may include drainage, stuffiness, and congestion. is it safeto take this medicine if you are on blood pressure meds that also has a diaretic in it? ## It really depends on the exact ingredient of the blood pressure medications. I did check the interactions between Metformin and several of them and, so far, they have all come up with the same warning that if the patience experiences any type of renal impairment and dehydration, it can increase the likelihood of Lactic Acidosis. Have you asked your doctor or pharmacist about this? Can you post back with the specific blood pressure medication you are asking about? ## Metropitol is my blood pressure meds will lipozene interfere with it ## my high blood pressure pills are called coversyl i take them with metformin and asa 81 also glicizide is this safe?

I am taking Amlidopine and Bisoprolol for hypertension. I developed a rash on both ankles and a psoriasis like rash on my bottom. It is getting better after stopping bisoprolol for a week, but blood pressure is rising. what alternatives do I have? ## Hello, Aubrie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem you're having. There are many other options available for treating high blood pressure, including some in the same drug class, which as listed by the FDA is beta blockers, such as Metoprolol, Propranolol, Atenolol Nebivolol. Typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach pain, increased urination and hypotension. Have you discussed the problem with your doctor? They should be able to prescribe an alternative to replace it. ## I have t...

SOMETIMES AT NIGHT MY PRESSURE WILL SKYROCKET TO ABOUT 235/105. I DOUBLE DOSE MY MEDS BUT IT STILL TAKES AROUND 3-4 HOURS TO GET IT DOWN; NOT LOW BUT LIVABLE. I TAKE CLONIDINE .02 LOSARTAN 100 MG AND SOMETIMES AMLODIPINE 5 MG. ## Actually, the only thing bringing it down after 3 to 4 hours is time, not the medications. These medications don't work like that to bring it down that fast, they take time to work, which requires consistent dosing for 4 to 6 weeks to have an effect, occasionally doubling up, just when it spikes does nothing. Have you consulted your doctor about the spikes? What are you doing that may make it elevate like that? You most likely need a med adjustment in the evening, which will probably be a higher dosage of one of them. One that you could ask your doctor abou...

Hi, I am pregnant and on blood pressure medication to regulate my high blood pressure. I recently heard that since I'm pregnant and on blood pressure medication I should also be on blood thinners to prevent a blood clot. Is this true? ## I have never heard of such a thing, as a matter of fact, from what I've read in pregnancy information, most women are just on a blood pressure medication, such as Labetalol and nothing else. Many of them have blood thinning properties of their own, so another blood thinner is rarely necessary, unless there is some other underlying condition, such as a clotting disorder, prior stroke, or etc. What has your doctor advised?

is it safe to take simivastin andblood pressure medications while taking avelox? ## Avalox contains the active ingredient Moxifloxacin, it is an antibacterial agent.
