I Suffer from chronic pain that's so severe i'm in tears most of the time. My family doctor had me on hydrocodone 10-325 4x daily. After 2 yrs it stopped working now I go to a pain center and have been put on morphine 30 er x 2 daily. This also does not seem to be helping the pain. I was wondering if this is a small dose of morphine. Thanks. ## Hello, David! How are you? No, that's not really a small dose, though it isn't huge either, it's rather moderate. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you informed your doctor? You may need a slightly higher dose, or something prescribed to use for breakthrough p...

for the last 7 years I have been on Norco 10's got to the point I was taking 12 to 15 a day, it got to the point that they stopped working for me so my dr. put me on morphine er 15mg 3x a day with 30mg instant release 4x a day im new to morphine but have a very high tolerance to opiots, im just wondering if I made a good switch. I remember when the Norco made me feel great but I have yet to take two 30mg i.r. at once to see if that was a pleasant feeling, anyone have some helpful advice in this area? thanks ## Hello, Charles! How are you? The reason you aren't getting that same effect from the Morphine is because it's time released. The Norco was released all at once within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, but the Morphine is slowly released into your body over a period of abo...

I used to take Oxycodone 15mgs, 5X's a day. After 5 or so years, they stopped working on my pain. My pain management doctor put me on Morphine Sulfate IR 30mgs, 4X's a day. They work great. One problem, I'm up on and off all night. I'm assuming it's the MS IR 30's because I never had a problem with sleep. Does anyone know what I can do to get at least a few hours of straight sleep? ## Maybe try an over the counter sleep aid like zzzquil, unisom, etc or you could try some melatonin and see if that helps. Hope you find something that works for you! If you do could you post back with what you used to woo get some sleep? Best of luck on getting the sleep you need! ## Thanks Jason. I'll get some Melatonin tomorrow. It's funny....I first get sleepy, fall asleep...

Hello, I take 8mg of suboxone daily, I'm having really bad pain right now. Will morphine take my pain away? I'm now looking to be high what so ever I need this pain to stop will it? ## Hello, China! How are you? No, the Naloxone in the Suboxone, plus the way the Buprenorphine clings to the opiate receptors prevents other opiates from working, while taking Suboxone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Have you consulted your doctor? They may have an idea of what may help your pain. Are you on any other medications? Can you take nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories?

How long will it take and how dangerous to me . I have been on same 100 Mcgraw for approx 15 years for degeneration of disc , spinal stenois, 3 back surgeries at 4 levels and still some herniation going on but done with surgeries that just make it even worse and oh yea I also have knee damage in both knees but can still pop back into place not as painful as back. ## Hello, Annie! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. If you were on it for that many years, it will likely take several months to do a proper slow and safe taper. This is a very potent narcotic, over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so you have to stop it very slowly, to avoid severe withdrawal symptoms and rebound pain. However, by working with your doctor, you can set up a proper tapering schedule and they can...

I have a pian pump inserted in my back and they are going to change from morphine to delaudid to keep from scar tissue building up on the nipple of the insert. How does this sound to you? ## Yes, it is completely normal for them to switch the medication used, periodically, to prevent issues with the pump and also to help prevent your building too much of a tolerance to any one medication, which could cause it to stop working for you. Dilaudid contains the active ingredient Hydromorphone, it is a very potent narcotic and may cause side effects similar to the Morphine, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation and drowsiness. I have been living with severe chronic back pain for nearly 10 years. Had a Fusion L4 -L5 disc space had collapsed. Surgery Failed. Pain was worse after. Was on oral oxycodone and others. I had a morphine pain pump put in 2012. Pain has been steadily increasing. I cry all of the time. I am severely depressed. See a psychiatrist. Take muscle relaxers and a lot of meds. I currently take 11 prescribed meds. I stay at home all of the time. I wake in pain. Most nights I sleep 2 hours and then I am up. I had to stop working. I am at a lose what to do. I can not do hardly anything. I am at the point now I can not take it any longer. I have told my dr at the pain clinic I feel like driving my car off a bridge. He then said he thinks I should try Prialt trial. I've read side effects and it s...

Is there a rep. for the ppl. who were controlled on 3 OxyContin OC a day, who now suffer and have proved the new OPs DON'T WORK? NO MATTER WHAT PURDUE OR FDA SAY? We need a rep. for us chronic pain patients, who were controlled and NOW SUFFER & CAN'T DO MORE THAN LAY IN BED CRYING. ## Unfortnately, other than reporting your complaints to the FDA, there isn't much else you can do. I'm sorry you are having such a frustrating experience with it. Have you tried to talk to your doctor about using any alternative medications, such as Fentanyl, or the time released Morphine? ## I've been on fentanyl for 15 yrs until they changed patch, it didn't help that's why my dr.put me on OxyContin and that lasted 5 mo. Till they changed to OP, then they stopped working. So ...
