Can I Take 2 5 325 Percocet Every 4 Hours

I was taking 2 Percocet/4hours for 5 days. I had a knee replacement. But yesterday I started to scale back and only taking 1/4hours. I have also started to become nauseous. Is that because I lowered my dose or because there is now a lot in my system? It said to be detailed, so I hope I didn't end up rambling? I have 3 herniated discs 2 in my neck and 1 in the lower back. Also bulging discs-odd but, never heard exactly how many? My mother is 74 yrs old. Had rotator cuff surgery 4 days ago. Had to take her to the ER on day two. There they gave her an IM Dilaudid shot and sent her home. Called the doctor on call the next day and ask if they could admit her for pain management, he proceeded to tell me that the insurance would not pay for it. Post-op surgery they gave her Percocet 7.5/325 1-2 every 4-6 hours for pain. To make a long story short. I shattered my ankle and broke and shattered my tibia. I had surgery about 3 weeks ago. Sometimes during the day my pain is worse and the pain starts to rage about an hour and a half to 2 hours later. In those instances would it be safe to take one more Percocet? It is not all the time. I am a cancer patient and this amount scares me. I have never heard of taking three every 4 hrs. I have taken 2 before after my lymph node removal but never 3. Is this really safe? ## Hi Desiree, I can certainly understand your concern about taking too much Acetaminophen. 325mgs x 3 = 975mgs and then multiply that by 6 times daily (if taken every 4 hours) and you get 5850mgs of Acetaminophen - aka - a very toxic blow to your liver. Prior to 2016, the maximum daily dose of Acetaminophen was marked as high as 4000mgs... As of now, the new maximum was brought down even further to 3000mgs, to ensure liver health isn't compromised. Should I be concerned? ## Yes, you have a valid reason to be concerned. Not only is that a high amount of Oxycodone to take, but the Acetaminophen in them is an even bigger concern. The limit should be no more than 1,000mgs every 8 hours and no more than 3,000mgs in any 24 hour period, anything over that risks overdose toxicity, which may be fatal! It can cause liver damage, or failure, which could result in death, as reported by the NIH. If he is taking that many at once, he needs help and his doctor should be informed of the situation. How often does he take that many?

Running out of the 5mg oxycodone the Dr. prescribed me 15mg every 3 hours. Now I do have 10/325mg percocet for my damaged back and the 15mg oxycodone was for my urinary tract relocation surgery which I had less than a week ago.
