My dog is a chawaa and I was wanting to know if I can give her nitrofurantoin mono-mcr 100 mg and if so how much ## Hello, Kimmy? How is your pup doing? Did you mean she's a chihuahua? If so, I would suggest not giving it to her, unless your veterinarian tells you to do so. Chihuahuas are usually tiny and can be very sensitive to medications, thus their dosage needs to be precisely calculated to avoid causing them harm. As reported by the Merck Veterinary Manual, an overdose could result in liver failure, kidney failure, and respiratory distress, any of which has the potential to be fatal. ## May I give my 6kg dog a quarter Alzam due to the cracker noise

Can you give iophen to dogs that have kennel cough ## No wtf it's a human prescription go get a prescription for your dog unless you want that dog to be leanin like a mf ## There are many human prescriptions that also have veterinary applications (namely antibiotics and pain medication). An article by Colorado State University also notes that Codeine (an active ingredient in Iophen) is in fact used in dogs. Furthermore, NIH.gov depicts Guaifenesin's use in dogs as well; Guaifenesin being the other active ingredient in Iophen. Nevertheless I do think it's imperative that the pet owner contact a veterinarian for more specific details involving proper dosing instructions... Since animals tend to be much more sensitive to drugs than humans, even a minor dosing mistake could be c...

My dog has 2 cuts on his neck caused by a dog bite. The vet said we cant stitch them because it will seal the infection in the cut. He's been in a lot of pain the last 2 days and hasn't been sleeping well. Can I give him half a Watson 3202 vicodin to make him more comfortable, as long as I don't do it daily and create an addiction would it be safe? ## Hello, Nelly! How is your pup doing? You really need to consult your veterinarian on this. Unfortunately, I am only familiar with the use of medications and their effects on humans, I've not studied veterinary medicine, at all. However, they should be able to advise you on this matter. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hello verwon, my pup is doing much better. I called the vet and she advised me to try half a pill...

My 7 month old puppy seems to have a UTI. I have macro is for my own recurring UTIs. Is it safe to use for my dog? ## Hello, Troy! How are you and the pup? Yes, it is safe to use in dogs and is prescribed to them for UTIs, as well. However, that doesn't necessarily mean it's safe for your pup. If they have any type of problem with kidney function, or a kidney disease, they can't take it. Thus, it would be best to consult with your vet, first, to be safe. The FDA classifies this medication as an antibiotic and lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you so much for your reply. After searching several other sites, along with this one, I decided to giv...

The pharmacist gave me azor 1mg to give to the dogs during festive season. Is it the right stuff for dogs? When it comes to fireworks etc, the dogs are scared of the loud bang from crackers and also thunderstorms. I am talking about big breed dogs. ## Hi, Azor 1mg is a VERY low dose. Are you sure its only 1mg? Cos the lowest dize i know of is 25mg. If its 1mg, i would consider it safe. Hope its effective though at such a low dose. Im not a vet, but i got cancer and so too my beloved dog. Once when i was at the vet he asked me on which chemotherapy drug i was using, because he might know it. He said that "you wont believe how similar dog and human medications are. Many chemo drugs are the same, the dosages just differ" Ive been giving my dog some doxytil antibiotics and metformin...

my dog is on Purbac for a skin infection, can i give him Petscam at the same time? ## @Phillip, I haven't come across any medications under the name "Petscam". The name is just so broad that my results are even bringing up pet owners who've previously been scammed. Lol! Would you happen to have the packaging in hand to help determine which ingredients are in Petscam? Also, Purbac (Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim) is a very powerful antibiotic that carries many side effects. So I would also recommend talking to your vet about this before making the final decision on whether or not you should combine it with another medication. I hope this helps! ## Thank you David,I took your advice and spoke to the vet who precribed the Purbac. He said to finish the course then I can sta...

is clindymyacin hydrochloride going to be safe to give to my dog ## Hi thunder, Based on my research, Clindamycin is commonly prescribed for dogs, cats, as well as a number of other household pets. However, you should probably still contact your local veterinarian for proper advice on dosing and administration. It's very important to give the full 7-10 day course of Clindamycin or as prescribed, so you'll want to make sure you have enough on hand to follow through with treatment until the infection is completely gone. Has your pet had any reactions to previous medications you've given it? You can learn more about this drug on the page for Clindamycin Details I hope this info helps! ## I had to take some Dog Lamisil once, but Clindamycin is for people too! I have taken it as ...

Can you give human Amox tr cla to cats with inflammation gums. ## Hi Katlady, Amoxicillin and Clavulanate potassium (Amox TR-K CLV) is a prescription antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections. And yes it is something that may be prescribed by veterinarians to cats/dogs alike in respective dosages. However, according to Dr. Foster and Smith Pharmacy, the human form of this medication reportedly contains more Clavulanate than the veterinary form. Taking that into account, I think it'd probably be best to let a vet determine how much is safe via an in person evaluation. Hope your cat is doing well since you last posted!

can my dog take doxycyclLXHF ## To answer your question, yes, Doxycycline (for dogs) is a broad spectrum antibiotic that kills different types of bacterial infections in pets. It’s a prescription medication that’s commonly administered to dogs suffering from Lyme disease and Chlamydia. In addition to this, vets often prescribe doxycycline to treat urinary tract infections and certain medical conditions like the Rocky Mountain spotted fever. As far as dosing goes, the guidelines state that dogs should be given 2mg to 5mg of the drug, per pound of body weight every 12 hours or 24 hours. However the dosage and duration of treatment depend upon the type of infection your dog is suffering from. And although it isn’t necessary to give t...

Can u give ur dog dilaudid for pain he has teeth pain badly gonna be having all his teeth pulled very soon but he's in a lot of pain now and he ran out of his and I don't have the money to get a refill. And if he can how many MG's an old I give him......??????? ## I wouldn't recommend administering strong medication like Dilaudid (Hydromorphone) without first consulting your pet's veterinarian. However, from what I understand, the dosage is generally determined by the weight of your dog. According to wikipedia, the recommended dose of Hydromorphone for dogs is listed at 0.05 - 0.1 mg/per kg of body weight, to be administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously every 24 hours. Were you planning on giving your dog actual pills or going the IV route? ## In relation to giv...

I have a 12 lb chihuahua with an abscess from my dads senile dog biting her leg. I have no money right now for a vet. I do have smz-tmp da 800-160 mg tablets. I was wondering how much I should give her? Please help! ## Hello, Leah! How are you? Dogs can take this medication, generally, it's stated that they should be given 13mgs per pound of body weight every 24 hours and it usually works better if given twice a day, every 12 hours. However, this is a sulfa based medication, so its rate of allergic reactions it fairly high, so you really should not give it to her, without a veterinarian's approval. If you give it to her anyway and she suffers an allergic reaction, you could end up with a really huge vet bill. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, d...

Val-Torb was given to my mini doxie for a chronic condition. He weighs 16 lbs and the dosage was 1.5mls 3 times a day but it made him horribly sick and shaky. As soon as I took him off he was OK. Has anyone out there had a problem with this medication? ## What this stands for is Valium, which is a Benzodiazepine that's used for its calming effect and Torbutrol (Butorphanol), which is used to relieve pain. I don't know what the dosage should be for canines, because veterinary medications are not my speciality, but it sounds like it may have been too much of the Torbutrol for him. Have you contacted your vet? A lower dose or different medication may be necessary. ## How long is Val/Torb good for? ## What long term side effects doa dog get when given Val torb long term ## I have yo...

can i give my cocker spaniel cyclobenzaprine for muscle spasms? she is having very bad muscle spasms in her abdomen area and her back. ## Hi Kim, From what I could gather, Cyclobenzaprine is not regularly used in veterinary medicine. I'm not sure why that is, but for this reason I'd encourage you to take her to your nearest vet and have her checked out in person, so she can receive the right kind of care or treatment that will nurse her back to health. Other comments I've read, took care to mentioned that Methocarbamol was generally the muscle relaxant of choice for use in dogs and cats. Perhaps you can ask your vet about that option as well. I hope this helps! ## From what I have read, many online sites by LAYMEN States that one should not give cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril) to...

Can Lansoprazole be taken by my dog for acid reflux? ## I would NOT give lansoprazole/prevacid to your dog unless a veterinarian says it's ok, I don't think it is safe for them to take!!! However pepcid, also known as famotidine is safe for dogs & cats. My dog takes the 20 mg ones but he is also 90-100lbs. You would give less if your dog is smaller & we use to give a quarter of a tablet to some of our cats but that might have been the 10mg tabs. Call up any local vet in your area- they should be able to give u the correct dosage according to weight. By the way I do NOT give my dog pepcid every day, only a couple times a week & at most every other day (he is on pain meds also) Hope this helped!!! ## On July 31st, 2017 I went to take my dog for his booster shot and ask...

my dog has been prescribed amox/clav as the vet says he has very bad teeth and looks infected, im worried about the side effects on him as he is a 14 and a half year old plus he has heart problem and all things about this product say keep away from animals, has anyone else given there dog this product, i just worry about him so much, ## Okay, the first issue is that for an elderly animal, with a heart problem, a dental infection is far, far more dangerous than any medications used to help clear it up. And when they direct you to keep it away from animals, they mean don't let them get ahold of it and eat the whole package, or let them get ahold of ones that aren't prescribed for them. Just like you would need to keep your medications out of reach of small children. This is a gene...

Is it ok to use this medicine on him....hope so! ## Hi Colleen! You should always contact your Vet before using any medication on you pet. ## @Colleen, Cats is right about contacting your vet first, especially when it comes to administering "prescription-only" medications like Clindamycin. From what I understand, determining the proper application for pets is usually based on the weight/size of the animal. However, a vet would surely be able to give you more specific details on how much to give your dog, w...

I have Pota Vi Kin 400,000 U tablets. Can I give to my 40lb. cocker spaniel? He has a bacterial eye infection. If so, how much should I give him? How often and how many days? ## This is not an antibiotic, what you have listed is a potassium supplement that is used to treat, or prevent potassium deficiencies. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, and stomach pain, due to the potency, so they should only be taken with food. What medication has your vet prescribed for your pup? It would be best to follow their instructions on what to give your dog. Have they confirmed your pup has a bacterial eye infection?

My dog is on Nitrofur-Macr because she is no longer responding to toher antiobiotic for urinary tract infection. I am giving her food with each dose. Any suggestions. ## I'll admit that I am not very familiar with the use of most medications in animals, most of my information and knowledge relates to their use and effects in humans. However, I did find a listing for this in a veterinary manual, it isn't extremely detailed, but it does seem that it can cause nausea in dogs, just as it can in people, it looks like many of the side effects are very similar. Learn more about the Nitrofurantoin details here. Have you talked to the vet? I wonder if there is something they can give a dog to combat the nausea, or if there is a different antibiotic that you can use? Has she improved any?...

medium white tablet, with a slit in the middle, to break in 2, given to my dog,who is feeling unwell ## The only veterinary medication I am finding with Tril in the name is Trilostane, used to treat Hyperadrenocorticism. Can I give my dog Torbugesic that was perscribed for my cat? ## I would suggest checking with your veterinarian, before doing so. I am not familiar with most veterinary medications, but I do know the ones that can safely be used, as well as the dosages, can vary from one species to the other, so it is never safe to assume that any particular medication can cross over from one to the other. Have you called your vet?
