Almost everybody here talks about drinking much. My question is if I take a simple cup of red wine after my dinner at 8 and then take my sulfa at 12. I really do not think that a cup of good red table wine would be so disastrous as some readers have commented. Thank you. ## I think your intuition is correct - moderation is the key. One cup of red wine should not result in a bad reaction, although it may increase certain effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, or upset stomach. Be sure to learn about the possible side effects from the drug itself so that you can monitor how you feel and report any adverse effects to your doctor if need be. I've been having chest pains for almost 3 years sometimes I feel like my heart will stop beating. My GP said that I have angina pectoris and low blood pressure, then prescribed Pur Blocka. Can one drink alcohol when taking Pur Bloka? ## It is never a good idea to drink alcohol while taking a prescription medication, or having been diagnosed with any medical condition, it can worsen the side effects, according to the NIH, and may put your life at risk, when combined with some medical conditions. However, a major symptom of angina usually includes chest pain, which is not something you listed among your symptoms. What you've listed, according to NIH reports, are symptoms of palpitations, which in most cases, are actually harmless and require no treatment. What type of doctor did y...

Hi, I finished taking Sulfamethoxazole on Wednesday and three days later, I drank alcohol. I woke up the next morning with a bad itchy skin rash. Was this caused by the alcohol? The rash came and went that day. Now on day 2, it's pretty much gone, with just a little area under my chin on my neck. Will the rash go away on it's own, and how soon? Thank you. ## Hello, Gugs! How are you? Has there been any change? Since you finished it a few days before, I am rather doubtful that the medication played a role, however, I am not a doctor so I can't say for sure. It would be best to have it checked out to be sure. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic (non-itchy) skin rash and diarrhea. And while alcohol can make them...

If I do not take the pills for 36 hours, will I be able to drink alcohol without having side effects? Also, what is the likelihood of my wound getting infected if I do not take the antibiotic for over 48 hours? ## Hello, Colleen! How are you? If taking coamox after how many hours can I drink alcohol?? ## Although alcohol can interact with certain medicines, in the case of Amoxicillin trihydrate, there are no known interactions between the two. Referenced from: nhs.uk/medicine-guides/pages/MedicineOverview.aspx?condition=Bacterial%20infections&medicine=Amoxicillin%20trihydrate&preparationAmoxicillin%20250mg%20capsules That said, I think you may have to be you're own best judge as to when and how often you decide to drink while you're taking this medication (basing it off of how you feel). Personally, if I were to drink, I would wait till after I feel the effects of the medication kick in, so I know that it's already working. I hope this info helps!

I am currently on my first week of Qsymia. I need someone's honest opinion and I will ask my doctor too once I see her again. I am not a big drinker at all but when I go on vacation I do get a couple of drinks here and then or maybe once a day. It's my vacation and I want to enjoy it. Am I going to die if I have a drink or 2 or would you recommend stopping the medication for the week and half I am on vacation? ## Hi Steph, According to umm.edu's drug interaction tool, drinking alcohol while taking Qysmia is not recommended as it may increase or decrease blood levels of topiramate (one of the active ingredients in Qysmia) potentially resulting in more side effects and/or a less effective dose.
