I had my teeth cleaned last week and after that I had pain in the left side of my face where I have a crown, the pain is getting worse that I can't sleep at night. I took Cipro 00 for 2 days now with out any change on the pain level. does that mean that it won't work? thank you ## Hello, Rara! How are you? The general rule with antibiotics is if they are working, there should be no worsening after the first 24 hours and you should see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, the issue is that your pain may not be due to an infection and, if that is the case, then the antibiotic will not help. Have you consulted your de...

I was prescribed ciprofloxacin for five days by my dentist and on the forth day I suddenly developed severe lower back pain, and generalized aches and pain which have lasted for past month and only gradually beginning to subside. I only suspected the ciproxin when a friend was taking it for chest infection and developed pain in Achilles tendon and is finding it difficult to walk. ## I was prescribed ciprofloxin hcl 500 mg tabs for a tooth infection. So far I have taken 3 tabs. At this time I have had no side effects. ## Hi, Nancy! How are feeling? Swollen sore abcess tooth with a lump under jawbone in area of abcessband it's Christmas Eve no dentist open I have cipro about five will they help ## Hello, DJ! How are you? I'm sorry about the dental problem you're having. According to the FDA, Cipro is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Though it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, the main issue is that you won't have enough to take a full course of the antibiotics to fully eradicate the infection, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistance. Additionally, it will not help with whatever the underlying problem is that allowed the abscess to develop, thus, you will still need to see you...

I have a abcess tooth which one is best cipro septra or keflex? ## Hi Brenda, From what I could gather, Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections. So it's probably not the best choice as a first line treatment option.. Septra and Keflex on the other hand, are more commonly prescribed by dentists for tooth and other mouth related infections, due to their broader spectrum. You may want to talk with your doctor about either one of those last two options to see what works best. Sometimes the right decision has to come from trial and error, depending on how your body reacts to each medication. Have you taken either of these medications in the past?

I was taken Amoxicillin that my dentist Rx to me but its been 3 days now N I have developed a sore throat witch the Amoxicillin is not doing anything for. So can I stop taking that one n start with Ciprofloxacin 500 mg I have instead? ## Hello, Mindy! How are you doing? An antibiotic isn't going to help a sore throat, unless it's due to an infection. And either way, they do take time to work, improvement should be seen after taking it for a full 3 days. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. After that if there is still no improvement, you should contact your dentist, because it may not be the right antibiotic to eradicate your infection. Since you have experienced more swelling, it may mean that this one isn't work for you and you should return to your dentist/doctor as you may need to try something else. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. I have a painful toothache. The dentist office is closed on Sunday. I have 1 ciprofloxacin 500 mg and cephalexin 500 mg. I don't know if they are okay to take for my toothache. ## Those are both antibiotics, used to treat various types of infections, so they may help, but it will not be enough to completely get rid of the infection and they will not treat pain. It is very important that you see a dentist to get to the root of the problem and, if needed, get enough antibiotics to clear up an infection. Are there any other questions?

Can I take Ciprofloxacin for a tooth infection? I found some in the medicine cabinet from a previous Dr. Visit and was wondering if it would be effective??? ## Although Ciprofloxacin is not commonly prescribed for dental infections, it may be used for certain mouth or gum diseases, after a culture and sensitivity test is done. This will show the best antibiotic to treat the infection. (For example, Ciprofloxacin can effectively treat rare dental infections caused by the Enterobacteriaceae group of bacteria, but not others). So it may be a hit or miss if you still intend on using this medication. Dosages for dental purposes: The typical adult dose is 250 milligrams to 750 milligrams every 12 hours. This dose is given for 7 to 10 days. Ciprofloxacin should not be taken with dairy products...

It's a natural remedy for dental issues as far as alleviating too...

I can't swallow this cipro 500mg tab (it's too big). Says not to cut, or chew it. It is a slow release med. Can I just cut it into 2 pieces and then take one half now and the other half 2 hrs later so that I don't get too much at once? I am supposed to take 2/day along with amoxicillin 500mg 3/day for a bad tooth infection that has spread into my lower jaw causing tinnitus in one ear. ## Hello, Zubs! How are you? Sorry about the severe infection. No, if it says not to cut, crush or break it, then you shouldn't do so, unless your doctor, dentist or pharmacist says it's okay for you to do so, other than possibly getting to much, some can be very harsh on your stomach and GI tract, which could cause bleeding and/or ulcers. Just wanted to know if I can use the G & W 3171 pill for a tooth infection? I have some left over from my doctor and I see a bump growing in my mouth. I'm pretty sure that's the infection forming by my tooth. I'm in a lot of pain and don't have time to go to a dentist. Can I use these in the meantime? Please help. ## Hi Kera, The pill you're describing is reportedly identified as Clindamycin hydrochloride 150 mg, made by G & W Labs with a National Drug Code of 00713-3171. I am a heart patient, I woke up this morning with a tooth ache. I was wondering if Ciprofloxacin would help with the swelling and pain ## Hello, Stailiana! How are you doing? Ciprofloxacin is an antibiotic, so it may help with swelling that is due to an infection, but it will not directly help with the pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. In a few days, if the pain is due to an infection and the antibiotic starts to eradicate the bacteria, the pain may start to ease, but that's a long, miserable time to wait. Since you are a heart patient, you definitely need to see your dentist, because a dental infection risks creating an infection in your heart valves. Do you frequently get toothaches?...
