I have a painful toothache. The dentist office is closed on Sunday. I have 1 ciprofloxacin 500 mg and cephalexin 500 mg. I don't know if they are okay to take for my toothache. ## Those are both antibiotics, used to treat various types of infections, so they may help, but it will not be enough to completely get rid of the infection and they will not treat pain. It is very important that you see a dentist to get to the root of the problem and, if needed, get enough antibiotics to clear up an infection. Are there any other questions?

The FDA classifies Cephalexin as an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, so you can take it, as long as your doctor or dentist have said it's appropriate. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.
