In december I developed bad tooth pain and a sore on the gum in a left molar. I have a heart murmer and my blood press.rose to a high level but was erratic and other times a normal rate. I called a dentist and he said to go to the ER. I did and they prescribed amoxicillin at 500mgs every 8 hrs. The last dose was on Jan 3, 2013 and by then the tooth problem was gone. I went to a dentist and he found no infections but said a molar on the opposite side which had lost some filling should be repaired soon. I made an appt. with him, but in the meantime it developed a blister near the root and soreness at the gumline. Also I started having erratic BP swings again sometimes 160/105 and resting pulse to 88. When I called he said to cancel his appt and go to the ER again, he didn't think the ...

Hello, I recently went to the dentist due to tooth pain in one of my wisdom teeth. after finding out that I had a tooth infection i was prescribed 10 days worth of amoxicillin, having finished this yesterday I still have tooth pain but, a considerably less amount of pain. I'm wanting to know if this means that the tooth will have to be extracted? Also, i have two 875mg tabs of amoxicillin for an infection in September should i take this in the hopes to still get rid of the infection and or to keep myself on the antibiotic so that my infection doesn't grow resistant to it. Tomorrow is Sunday so I wont be able to contact my dentist until Monday or possibly Tuesday if he celebrates president day. ## An antibiotic only helps eradicate the bacteria that causes an infection, it does n...

Hi dentist, I've had toothache for about a month now and it's gotten worst I believe and abscess has developed, I've started taking amoxil 500mg every 8he's from Sunday, thus is the 4the day of taking it now and although some of the sweeping as gone down in the night I'm in extreme pain and even when I take pain killers (motrin 800mg) the pain just eases and flares up, it doesn't dull completely. Any suggestions? I'm taking the antibiotic before I go to the dentist cause the teeth needs to be extracted, I need an ease from this pain, is the amoxil working at all?

I have a gum infection because I have a bad tooth that needs to be pulled. The dentist prescribed me Amoxicillin 875 mg. I'm just wondering how long will it take for my gums to return back to normal. I've been taking the pills for 7 days and I have 3 days left. ## Hello, Shauna! How are you doing? The general rule for antibiotics is that you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 3 days. If you still have swelling, it may not be the right one to treat the infection you have and you may need to ask about taking something else. When are you having the tooth extracted? It would be best to do it after the infection has improved, otherwise it may not numb properly. ## As rightlly said by Verwon, at seven days you shud ave had an improvement if not complete heali...

I have had seven teeth extracted a week ago. I am on amoxicillin 500 3 times a day as I have an infection and in terrible pain! I have been on them for 3 days, almost 4. How long until the infection clears and the pain stops? Also is corsodyl mouth wash good for healing of the gums after extractions? Thanks. ## Hello, Bexy! How are you? You should be starting to see improvement of the infection by now, it usually only takes about 3 days of taking the antibiotic. Thus, if there's been no change and you're still in pain, please return to your doctor, you may need to try a different antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. I wouldn't suggest using a mouthwash, unless...

Hello, I was prescribed amoxicillin for my tooth. It is decaying. It's black, but what do you expect? Ha. Anyways I have no signs of infection (I don't think) and by that I mean I don't have any swelling. It hurts (of corse half my tooth is gone), but that's it. She had a very strong accent and I think she said when it starts sweeping just start taking them. The prescription says start taking them ASAP... But I guess I'm battling an issue with myself because I don't feel an infection? So why should I take them? ## Hello, Spaz! How are you? If the tooth hurts and is blackened, then there most likely is an infection. Otherwise, it would only be sensitive to something very hot or cold, when you eat or drink. This antibiotic may cause side effects, such as nausea, di...

Hi, I am taking 1000-62.5 amox-clav er. 2 pills in am and 2 pills in the pm. Is this too much to take? ## Hello, Carrie! How are you? Was that the dosage prescribed for you? Doctor's will sometimes prescribe higher amounts of an antibiotic, if an infection is particularly severe or hasn't responded to prior treatment. However, you may experience more severe side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Are you experiencing any side effects from it? Has the infection improved? ## Can you take amoxicillin 875mg for a sinus infection? I filled this prescription for tooth pain but never used it because I had a root canal. I have a really bad toothache that I think is abscessed. Will Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) help treat the infection? ## Can Bactrim be used for a Tooth Infection? While Bactrim is effective against a range of bacterial infections, it is not typically the first-line antibiotic for treating tooth infections, which are often caused by anaerobic bacteria found in the oral cavity. These infections usually respond better to antibiotics that are specifically effective against the types of bacteria found in dental abscesses, such as penicillin, amoxicillin, or clindamycin, which are more traditionally prescribed by dentists. However, in cases where a patient cannot tolerate these first-line antibiotics or if the infection is caused by a bacteria that is known to be susceptible to...

How are you? At this point, it's hard to say whether the pain is due to an infection or if the broken tooth is sensitive and the nerves are exposed. I was wondering if this antibiodic was something that would treat this infection... ## Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim can in-fact be used to treat a tooth infection, but it is not usually the first choice for dental infections since many of them respond better to other alternatives, such as Penicillin and Amoxicillin. Learn More: Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethopriml Details I would also consider speaking with a dentist about the underlying cause of this infection, just to make sure it's not something that will be reoccurring. It may also cause side effects, such as: nausea, diarrhea, skin rash and dizziness. Are there any other questions?

I had six teeth out last wk and was given 20 Tylenol for pain and they are gone..do you think i should ask for a few more as it is still hurts especially where the stitches are. I was one amoxicillin 500 4 time s a day before they were pulled but then still hurt Thanks ## Hello, Nanc! How are you? It is normal for the sockets to remain sore for awhile, after extractions. Whether or not you ask for more pain medications is up to you. How severe is it? The FDA classifies Tylenol 3 as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I have the following antibiotics that I can take to help me until I can get to my dental appointment, but my dental appointment isn't until February 10th. I have an infection in the front of my gum area, front tooth stays sore a lot. It comes and goes all the time. I can taste it too. Which one would help me best until my appointment? Macrobid, Levofloxacin, or Bactrim? ## Hi Kym, I see you posted this on January 30th...and it's now March 2nd (after your appointment date). I have a abcess tooth wanted to know if keflex 500 mg will take the infection out. ## Hi Jackie, From what I could gather, Keflex (cephalexin) can in fact be used to treat a tooth infection. Apparently the usual adult dose for bacterial infections is listed as being anywhere from 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours; to be taken for up to 1-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. However, these exact figures are generally something your doctor/dentist would determine upon a closer examination. I hope this helps answer your question! ## Does cephalexin help with sinus infection ## I have had a bad tooth infection with pain for some time now..and have been treating it with OTC pain meds.. I was taken Amoxicillin that my dentist Rx to me but its been 3 days now N I have developed a sore throat witch the Amoxicillin is not doing anything for. So can I stop taking that one n start with Ciprofloxacin 500 mg I have instead? ## Hello, Mindy! How are you doing? An antibiotic isn't going to help a sore throat, unless it's due to an infection. And either way, they do take time to work, improvement should be seen after taking it for a full 3 days. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. it has gg o n the left side an n7 on the right side. it,s a white pill.amox/k clav875 125tabsandoz for tooth infection ## To answer your question, yes, you can take these pills for a tooth infection. Amoxicillin is included in the list of popularly prescribed antibiotics for tooth infections. Its effectiveness however, depends on how far the tooth infection has spread; and if required, combination therapy is followed. The effectiveness of amoxicillin for addressing tooth infection also largely depends upon taking it in correct dosage, which is decided by the concerned doctor. A common dosing method for a tooth infection is taking one pill 3 times a day, (i.e., after every 8 hours) for 10 days. I would recommend checking with your doctor to verify what might be best for you though. I hop...
