Hello! I was taking 5 mg. bystolic for 1 yr. until I experienced terrible side effects that I make me so disable to do anything and has been taken to the ER within 2 months period of time. My primary physician told me to stop taking it two months ago and try an alternative way of stabilizing my bp (as a trial and error first!) instead by enrolling at Zacharias Ganey Health Institute for a 10 week Course this summer. To make this story short, without taking bystolic now, my bp is normal ( lower than 130/80) everyday though it spike up once in a while to 200/ 110. However, I feel so much better and I can drive my car now BUT there are days I still feel nauseous esp. early in the morning when I got up and hasn't taken my breakfast yet or at times when I was outside the house or just si...

my dad has had an onset of both upper extremities becoming weak and he is now having a hard time combing his hair, opening things, and driving. his fingers go numb and are tingling at times. he has no energy and he's being to walk with a wobbly gait. he started taking bystolic in march and I was wondering if what is happening with him could be a side effect from the medication. ## Common side effects while taking Bystolic are: Headache, Dizziness, and Parasthesia. Parasthesia is a sensation of tingling, pricking, or numbness of a person's skin with no apparent long-term physical effect. It is more generally known as the feeling of pins and needles or of a limb being asleep (although this is not directly related to the phenomenon of sleep). To learn more click on the link below.....

My doctor started me on this drug 4 days ago. I have not been able to sleep well and have a strange sensation in my legs when I try to lay down to sleep. Could this be caused by Bystolic? ## Hi Pat, Based on my research, the following symptoms are listed as general side effects of Bystolic (Nebivolol): - difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep - numbness, burning, or tingling in the hands, arms, feet, or legs Ref: nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/meds/a608029.html#side-effects I would definitely recommend contacting your doctor as soon as possible if either of these side effects have become too bothersome or severe. But at least you know now what's causing it, so you can then ask about making adjustments to your dose or opt for switching medications. I hope this helps! ## Thank ...

I have been on 10mg for 2 years about 6 months ago I would have brief lightheadedness& weakness feeling, especially when standing, visual disturbances diagnosed as painless ocular migraines, sleep difficulty, occasional joint pain, and a feeling of "skipped" heart beats, and slowed then speeded up to normal heart rate...had an EEG Carotid scan , and MRI all normal have scheduled a cardiologist apt but after reading this thread I wonder if these symptoms are from the bystolic?? I will certainly mention it-i never had a fast heart rate to begin with... ## anyone out there??? ## Hello, Jersey! How are you? It would be very odd for them to be caused by the medication after you've been on it for 2 years, but it is possible. Are you on any other medications? How much fluid do y...

Bystolic Nebivolol

Nebivolol is a beta blocker used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure.[1] As with other β-blockers, it is generally a less preferred treatment for high blood pressure.[2] It may be used by itself or with other blood pressure medication.[2] It is taken by mouth.[2] Common side effects include dizziness, feeling tired, nausea, and headaches.[2] Serious side effects may include heart failure and bronc...

Hi. I've been on Bystolic for about two years, since shortly after a five valve emergency bypass. While taking it (and I'm on so many meds I have NO idea if the Bystolic is responsible for this) I've had SOB and just an incredible weakness in legs. Had LOTS of tests related to the SOB, and they were all good. No actual SOB according to the lung doctor. Now....I ran out of Bystolic about 2 weeks ago and keep forgetting to go get the refill. For the last 10 days or so, I've brief periods of dizziness, some morning headaches, some loss f appetite, and the SOB/weakness issue has gotten exponentially worse. I work for a public utility so I am outdoors all day, and perform somewhat strenuous work. For the last several days, walking up a slight incline or climbing about 25 feet...

Does it matter if I take this med in the am or pm? I also take lotrel and microzide for high blood pressure in the am. Bystolic was prescribed for heart rhythm. ## Hello, Eddie! How are you? Usually, it is preferred that you take them in the morning, so they can control your condition during the time of day when you will be most active and experience the most fluctuations. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, hypotension and stomach pain. Is there anything else I can help with?

side effect information ## Nebivolol is the generic name for Bystolic; Nebivolol is a receptor blocker with nitric oxide-potentiating vasodilatory effects, used in treatment of hypertension and, in Europe, also for left ventricular failure. Research I have gathered states that several studies have suggested that Nebivolol has reduced typical beta-blocker-related side effects, such as fatigue, clinical depression, bradycardia, or impotence. You can view a detailed description of the drug, by clicking on the link below... Do you have any more questions or information to add? Please post back if you do. ## Phantosmia, bad dreams

Has anyone who takes Bystolic developed GA or granuloma annulare a skin condition? ## Hell, Dayla! How are you doing? Sorry about the GA. But no, from what I've been able to find, it hasn't been known to be caused by medications. Did your doctor have any ideas why you might have developed GA? It has sometimes been associated with some allergies, such as gluten and with Lupus. ## I did stop taking the Bystolic. I had been on it for 5 yrs. taking 10 mg. also 40mg. of Benicar. I went up to 20 mg. of the Bystolic and it wasn't managing the blood pressure and was causing alot of side effects at that amount. i wouldn't recommend taking that much Bystolic. I went back to Metoprolol ER and for right now the BP is being managed. The GA rash has not subsided and it's been almo...

I was put on Bystolic six days ago. My doctor removed me from Inderal (Propanalol) after being on that drug for 27 years. The reason she gave me is I have had bronchitis and she said Inderal accentuates the problems with asthma or bronchitis. Now, I have had bronchitis in years past and my former doctor never took me off of the drug. I now see that Bystolic is also contradictory to anyone with bronchitis and asthma problems. I have had bronchitis once this year so I don't understand the need to change. The side effects of the Bystolic have been awful, cold hands, shaky, exhausted. I wonder if this could be the withdrawal from the Inderal or the side effects? I called her associate doctor yesterday to tell him I was very uncomfortable with this and he said it couldn't be withdraw...

Hi. I was put on Bystolic for blood pressure in June. two months into taking the medication I had such severe side effects. I had constant muscle spasms, muscle aches and pain that would come and go through my body, I could not focus, I had a burning sensation in my face with tingling through my body. It caused me to get depressed and develop bad anxiety. I weaned myself from 10mg to 2.5 mg and went to the doctor and told him and he switched me to 50mg Losartan. He switched it in August and then the doctor place me on Losartan. I felt good for the first few weeks. Almost 2 and a half months in and I am getting severe body aches that come and go, my anxiety is back and worse, severe sinus congestions and ear ringing and a congestion. So, as of Wednesday the doctor took me off this medica...

Started taking Bystolic 5 mg 5 weeks ago, heart date is down to 51 BPM, also put on neurotin for nerve tingling not from diabeties, started at 100mg now at 300 mg. experiencing severe depression and suicidal thoughts. I realize it's the meds. How do I reduce them without causing more serious side effects. The neurotin did not help the tingling pain, but relieved arthritic knee pain, and although my bp is down my heart rate is so low I am unable to walk uphill without shortness of breathe. Is it okay to just reduce the dosage for a few days? ## Wow! Yes, it seems that they are both causing problems. The Neurontin works on brain chemicals, so along with being an anticonvulsant that helps with nerve pain, it is also sometimes used to treat mood disorders. Learn more Neurontin details h...

Is anyone else experiencing the following side effects? I am 54 years old and went on 5 m of Bystolic approx 4 months ago. I have put on ten pound (rare for me) have chronic heartburn, morning nausea, my liver enzymes are above normal now, night sweats and tiredness ...the nightmares have subsided....I am at wits end....my blood pressure is borderline ....do I really need this drug or is there a better one out there? ## Hi Bridget, sorry to hear about what you're going through. The chronic heartburn and nausea sound like some of the common side effects for this medication. The weight gain, however, is considered more serious so I'd recommend alerting your doctor of this ASAP because your treatment may need to be changed. Hope this helps and best wishes with all this!!

I have high anxiety and high blood pressure cardiologist subscribed Bystolic after reading reviews I am so scared to take this drug I understand some side effects are normal but not seizures whay do I do ## Hello, Kelli! How are you? If you have high blood pressure, you are at far greater risk from not taking the medication than you are from taking it. High blood pressure creates the risk of heart attack, stroke, congestive heart failure and many other possible health problems, many of which could be fatal. As to Bystolic's side effects, the most commonly experienced ones reported by the FDA including headache, dizziness and fatigue. Seizures are very, very rare and most people that take this medication do not experience them and they are most often due to overdose. Have you started...

Been taking Bystolic for three weeks, good BP results; however diarrhea has been an issue. Anyone else with this side effect and will it go away as my body adjusts to the new med. ## Bystolic contains the active ingredient Nebivolol, which is a beta blocker and yes, it can cause diarrhea in some people, but that should ease as your body adjusts to the medication. However, if it it doesn't, or if it become worse, you should contact your doctor. Are there any other questions? ## Thanks for replying. How long wiill it take to adjust to this med. Sorry if I seem ignorant on this issue. ## Jackie, it usually takes between 4 to 6 weeks and the way you can usually tell is that will be the time when the side effects also seem to be at their worst. It's the same time the medication takes...

Have been on 5 mg Bystolic past 10 days for recently diagnosed afib, the headaches have been daily and rough, also vivid, upsetting dreams and heavy fatigue, pulse 50 and feeling weak, cut the dose to 2.5 for the past 3 days with no improvement, any chance things will get better? ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA. Typically, side effects are transient and go away in time, once your body adjusts to the medication, but that could take 4 to 5 weeks. However, the low heart rate is a concern and you should speak to your doctor, because you may need to switch to a different medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I could not deal with the headaches, especially since pain meds are a concern while I take Coumadin too. The low pulse add...

Is it ok to take Nifedipine ER and Bystolic at the same time? ## Hello, Bhey68! How are you? Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker and the Nebivolol in the Bystolic is a beta blocker, these types of medications are often combined, because it increases their blood pressure lowering effects. Has your doctor prescribed both? Learn more Nifedipine ER details here. Learn more Bystolic details here. They may also cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and stomach pain.

Taking bystolic and my body is becoming more and more stiff. I now have trouble bending and straightening my spine. I'm walking hunched over. Anyone else have this experience on bystolic ## I didn't experience it with Bystolic, but I did have one blood pressure medication that caused very similar problems for me, it made me so miserable that I had to stop taking it. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and dry cough as listed by the FDA. There is, however, no reason to remain miserable. Please see your doctor, there are other medications you can try. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you for reply. I will follow up on this with my doctor.

I've started bystolic a few weeks ago. My Dr changed the dosage and I am now on 15 mg a day at 8 hour intervals. Since taking this as instructed, I've had a burning sensation through my upper body, even up into my neck and head. I have had reflux issues, but I can't distinguish this from a possible side effect. My father died of a brain stem stroke, and this sensation creates a lot of anxiety for me. Does anyone else suffer from this burning sensation? It is not in my extremeties. Thank you! ## Have you consulted your doctor? You should consult them any time that you experience ofd symptoms, even if you think they are medication side effects. Nebivolol is a beta blocker, that is usually used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions, but it generally causes...
