Butrans Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine/naloxone, sold under the brand name Suboxone among others, is a fixed-dose combination medication that includes buprenorphine and naloxone.[2] It is used to treat opioid use disorder, and reduces the mortality of opioid use disorder by 50% (namely by reducing the risk of overdose on full-agonist opioids such as heroin or fentanyl).[2][4][5] It relieves cravings to use and withdrawal symptoms.[6] Bupr...

Hi. I need any and all assistance I can possibly get. I live in Wesley Chapel,fl (suburb of Tampa,FL). My doctor changed me yesterday from Percocet 10/325mg to Butrans 20mg and I cannot find this rx anywhere. I am completely out of pain medication and am in immediate need of this rx. Has anyone every filled this rx at any local pharmacies in the Tampa area; if so which pharmacy would possibly have this rx? ## Hi, Janna! How have you been checking for it? If you've been calling around, the pharmacies are going to tell you that they don't carry it or have it in stock, because it's a controlled substance and they have no way of knowing if the person on the other end of the phone is a legitimate customer with a need, or a potential thief. Some pharmacies may also not have any in...

I read the reviews and I question if they were written by the manufacturer. I was on Butrans. Started on 10 mg and was eventually switched to 20 mg. When I was switched to 20, at least noticed it did something. I was miserable. I had been on hydrocodone and Opana and I was switched to Butrans by pain management dr. I kept begging to be switched back to anything I had been on because Butrans just didn't cut into the pain. I was not given anything for breakthrough pain (I have switched doctors since). Anyway, it was very mild and had serious side effect of depression and I believe some weight gain. Would not recommend it to anyone in chronic severe pain. Had same problem as others in that it does not last for 7 days. I changed doctors and was put on combo of Oxycontin, Nucynta and Tra...

i cant afford my patches is there a way to get help LIKE A DISCOUNT OR ANYTHING ## On the lower right side of each page of this website is a printable discount card that you can try using. There is no registration or qualifying required, you just print it and it provides discounts or rebates at many pharmacies. So that's something you may want to look into. Learn more Butrans details here. Additionally, there is a savings card that your doctor can print for you to use from their website, butrans.com. But as I said, a physician has to sign up for it and print it for their patients. Does anyone else have any ideas? ## I was told by my pain doc's nurse practicioner(spelled wrong) that if you get your doc to call your insurance co. it might help with the cost some if he tells them h...

Will going straight from 40mg Norco daily to a Butrans patch cause precipitated withdrawals? ## Yes, it may, since Buprenorphine takes a stronger hold on the opiate receptors than the Norco, so it tends to kick it out, so to speak. The FDA classifies this medication as an opiate, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Did you doctor instruct you to switch immediately? ## I'm waiting for her instructions still and all of the info online is confusing. On their website it says if you're on the equivalent of 30mg morphine or less that you don't have to taper down, but other sites say totally different.

I am currently on a 10mg Butrans patch and also norco for break through pain. I got off track on taking the norco's because I was having some really bad pain and it was the only way I could get relief (big mistake) because in 10 days I have an appointment with my pain management doctor and because I am having breakthrough pain now with nothing to take. If he decides to run a UA how is it going to affect the outcome?

I have been on fentanyl 75 for many years. It's not working anymore. I talked to my pain doc and we have decided to wean down the fentanyl to 25 and then start the butrans patch for pain. Has anyone done a switch from fentanyl to butrans and which do you feel works the best. Do u use anything for breakthrough pain. Does the patch last 7 days. Did you go through a lot of withdrawals. I know this is a lot to answer but I am real scared of changing although the fentanyl doesn't seem to be working as good as it used to, is some relief better than none or should the butrans help? ## Sorry to hear about your challenges with fentanyl. It seems like your doctor should be able to help you make some of those decisions based on their evaluation or assessment of your condition/medical recor...

Hi there, I've been looking online for information on how to get off the butrans patch (5mg) I have been on now for about 3 years. I was placed on this due to a spinal infection and the lingering affects due to nerves thereof - a general diagnosis has been possible lyme/west nile - whatever it is/was - I am still (4 yrs. later numb from the knees down - numbness is intermittent and moves about from knees down to feet). Still on a walker as whatever this was took out my left leg in particular however my right leg is fine. It's been a trip - but I'll beat it - darn if I won't. All said, though and back to topic - has anyone any suggestions on how to "get off" this butran's patch - the lowest dose ? Can I just take the darn thing off and ride it out or is this d...

Hi my dad aged 81 has been on butrans and stepped them up as advised by the doctor until he reach 25....this made him very sleepy so he took the patches off and has now for over a week suffered what i can only describe as cold turkey....has anyone any idea how long this will last ## How long was he on them? Depending on the length of time, it may take a few weeks for the withdrawal effects to wear off. As listed by the FDA, they may include nausea, fever, chills, diarrhea and rebound pain. Has he considered going back on them, but at a lower dose? It's an option he could discuss with his doctor.

If the butrans patch out of date can u still use it ## Medications do lose effectiveness over time, so it may not work as well as it did, when new. It would be best to dispose of the expired patches and obtain a new supply. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I've been on butrans patch 20 mcg. For over a year. Suddenly I've been switched to the generic form of butrans. The brand Butrans is best for me because the generic is giving me an upset stomach with headaches and nausea. I feel sick on the generic butrans. I'm sure it's not a good substitute for the brand. The brand Butrans is better medicine in so many ways and more effective. The generic butrans makes me sick. I wish doctors and insurance companies would listen to the patients and stop pushing medicine on me that makes me sick and doesn't work for me and I'm sure many other people will have the same problem. It's dangerous to play with people's lives and switch medicine suddenly from butrans brand to butrans generic!!! Generic doesn't work! I'm...

I was just prescribed the Butran patches and 3 10mg ir Opana for bt pain. I was given no instruction by the Dr or pharmacist. I had been out of my dilaudid I was previously prescribed because of switching Drs. So I immediately took an opana and though I would read up on the patches before beginning them. Well a few days went by and the opanas were holding the pain away enough so I took my leisurely time getting to the reading up on the Butrans. Now I'm scared to start them! I spoke with the the manufacturers pharmacist which was no help. He basically said, "I don't know what will happen." in not willing to risk precipitated withdrawals on and idk. None of the local pharmacists know either. What do I do to safely begin these patches since I've already started the opan...

Can someone please tell me if I can take sublingual subutex while wearing a butrans 20 patch? Subutex doesnt contain naloxone so before I get any of the "Oh my god no you will have precipitated withdrawals" responses. So, if I took a subutex or even half of one will I be ok? I have just had major back surgery and I'm simply trying to control the post op pain and my sub dr is out of town and I have googled and searched for a day now. And since I'm an IT guy I would have thought that surely someone would have asked and had this answered at some point before, but if they have then perhaps I suck at google searching because I cant find it, lol. ## No, because that would be doubling up on the same medication, since they both contain the active ingredient Buprenorphine, so it ...

I recently began seeing a pm dr for chronic back pain. He prescribed me the butrans 5 and Norco 7.5 every 12hr as needed for breakthrough pain. Well I can't really tell that the patch is helping my pain at all but it is causing me to itch like crazy and the last patch I took off left what looked like a burn on my chest, you can still see a scaly square area there. Has anyone else had this issue? What do I do ## That could be due to an allergic reaction, according to FDA warnings, and if that is the case, they tend to get worse with repeated use, so you could start to experience hives, swelling, and trouble breathing. The best thing to do is to inform your doctor, as it might not be safe for you to continue using these patches. Has there been any change?

I started Butrans 10 mg last Friday. On the following Monday I started to feel dizzy and nausous. Then by Thursday I was dizzy nausous and felt like I was having a hard time breathing. Took the patch off and did not put another one on. I am still feeling dizzy and nausous but I can breathe now!! How long will the dizziness and sick feeling last. I was only on it a week!! ## Hello, Debi! How are you doing? Are you feeling any better? It may take a few days, before the side effects completely wear off and you start to feel more normal. Due to the breathing issue, you most likely did the right thing by taking it off, because it can cause respiratory depression which has the potential of being dangerous. Have you contacted your doctor? You should check with them to be sure that all is well.

I've been on the Butrans patches now for 2 months. I started on 5mg & now I'm on 20mg. I also have Amitriptyline 10mg per day which eventually will go up to 50mg... I also have Tramadol when needed... I was put on Gabapentin but they made me too dopey & they was not good for my Epilepsy either. I felt really ill off them. I suffer from nerve pain as well as stiffness and the Butrans helps with the stiffness; they don't take the major pain away but they do help... I just wish I could stop itching, it's driving me nuts. So if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know. TY. ## Try using a cold pack - relieves the itching (for me, at least) instantly ## What type of itching are you experiencing? As in, is it localized to the area of the patch, or is all over your...

My doctor switched me from Percocet 10/325 to Butrans 15mg. I've been taking the 10/325 for about 6 years. 5-6 pills a day. I am scared to death that the 15mg Butrans is too high? Or that I will go into withdrawal. Please help. Thank you. ## Hi Sparkles, Sorry to hear about your situation. From what I could gather, Buprenorphine is listed as the active ingredient in Butrans. This medication can pull Perocet off your receptors (causing withdrawal) if you're not at least somewhat off of it yet, so I can understand why you're probably hesitant to make the switch. If you find this transition to be too difficult, I would even ask your doctor to help you taper down first to make things easier on you. That may end up taking longer, but as you probably know these medications are no ...

Doc just switched me from fentanyl 50 mcg every 3 days to Butrans 15mcg every 7 days and I am now getting no pain relief and am suffering from extremely bad headaches. The reason I asked to be switched in the first place was because the fentanyl was causing very bad night sweats. The butrans is doing the same along with the headaches. Is there a pill I can ask for that will give me the pain relief of the fentanyl without the terrible night sweats. Also the fentanyl was only working for 2 days instead of 3 and I had problems with them falling off. Any help would be appreciated. ## Hello, BRod! How are you? Fentanyl is the strongest opiate available, so you went from that to something weaker, which explains why the Butrans isn't helping your pain. There's really nothing else compa...

I'm on my 5th week of the 10mg patches. I have no side effects, But it doesn't take my back pain away. It does help. I was on 30mg oxycodone 4 times a day. It did take the pain away. But I lost 35 lb and I didn't have 35lb to lose. I looked like a scare crow. I couldn't eat. I told the pain Dr. to get me off the Oxy. He gave me methadone to get off. It took a month. I go back to the pain Dr Tues. I want to try the Butrans 20. I hate to see the cost. I paid $239.00 for the 10s. ## Hello, Dal! How are you? Have you considered trying the Fentanyl patch? It is a much stronger analgesic and is available as a generic, so it's much cheaper. Learn more Fentanyl details here.
