There is no label on my butalbital + acetaminophen + caffeine. What is it used for? And is it a narcotic? ## Hello, Patricia! How are you? The FDA lists this medication as being most commonly used for the treatment and prevention of migraines and no, it is a barbiturate. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, stomach irritation, insomnia and nervousness. Is there anything else I can help with?

How long does it take for the pain from a bad migraine to go away? I've been taking the pills for 3 days and I still have my bad migraine. ## Hello, Char! How are you? I am so sorry about the migraine. It should have helped by now, if it was going to do so. As detailed by the NIH, these types of medication usually start to work within 15 to 20 minutes of taking them, so relief should be felt soon after. It might be time to explore other migraine relief options, such as different medications. Dilaudid is often used by hospital ERs to treat them. Have you ever tried it? It's an idea you can discuss with your doctor, anyway. The FDA does warn that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and constipation. ## Char, ...

I would like to know if these are available online, either in the UI, SA, A, or Canada..? Any information, address, telephone or ???? ## does regular strength 325mg acetaminophen have codene in it ## @Eddie, The medication you're describing (generic Fioricet) is reported to only be available via prescription - at least here in the US. This means that it would be illegal to obtain them via other means if you reside in the US. So unless you're visiting those other countries in person, you'd have to go through your doctor in order to get what you need. @themayor665 (post #1), No, Acetaminophen in and of itself does NOT contain Codeine at all. They are two different drugs. However, the medication in question (generic Fioricet) is available with Codeine "added" to the mix...

I have taken 3 doses of Butalbital Acetaminophen Caffeine (50-325-40) within the last 9 hours. My last one being an hour ago. Is it safe to have a few margaritas? ## According to the University of Maryland Medical Center (umm.edu / drug interaction tool), alcohol has a high interaction potential with acetaminophen and butalbital. They go on to note that taking this combination together is not recommend and may result in dangerous side effects including but not limited to the following: Slowing down your nervous system, liver damage, loss of balance, dizziness, slurred speech, feeling confused, experiencing changes in mental awareness, abdominal pain, having chills, fevers, yellow skin or itchy skin, dark urine or dark-colored stools. Are these two the same? One says butalbital/acetaminophen/caff tabs the other says but/apap/caf codeine the first one in a pill white round v on one side 3220 on other side the next one is a cap. Blue and white with 3220 on the white part ## Hi Bri, From what I could gather, the blue and white capsule marked with WATSON on the blue half and 3220 on the white half, reportedly contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen + 50mg of Butalbital + 40mg of Caffeine + 30mg of Codeine. The other pill you mentioned with a marking of V 3220 doesn't seem to exist when I go to look it up. However I did come across a very similar white round pill imprinted with a V on one side and 2355 on the other. This particular tablet contains 325mgs of Acetaminophen + 50mg of Butalbital + 40mg of Caffeine; but does NOT ...

I have BUT/ACETAMINOPHEN/CAFF 50-300-40 CP. What do the last two letters "CP" mean? Does it mean capsules? ## Hello Grace, Typically the abbreviation CP in the medical field refers to cerebral palsy but in reference to a pill itself it's fairly safe to assume that it could stand for capsule. Each company and pharmacy have their own way of labeling things so if it's truly of great concern to you simply ask your pharmacy or the manufacturer who labeled the bottle. ## The ingredients listed in your abbreviation correspond with: Butalbital 50 mg / Acetaminophen 300 mg / Caffeine 40 mg I am inclined to agree with everyone on here that the "CP" could likely stand for Capsule ... However, there is a variation of this med that also contains Codeine Phosphate 30 mg in add...

is this medication appropriate for treatment of swelling in the ethmoid sinus? ## Although this medication is used a pain reliever for headaches (containing Butalbital, Acetaminophen, and Caffeine) I don't think it has anti-inflammatory properties. That said, I don't know if it would actually help with swelling, although it should relieve some of the pain. ## Butalb-Acetaminophen was prescribed for my severe frontal lobe/ sinus headaches. The Prescription reads "take one tablet every 6-8 hours as needed for headache". Well, they're 100% right on! If yoy WANT a headache that lasts 6-8 hours after administering, take one! It was a NIGHTMARE of pain and icepacks for me.

What are the milligrams of but/acetaminophen/caff 50-300-40 cp? I'm 75 and take a # of medications for restless leg, fibromyalgia and arthritis. I've never taken this drug before, but had what the dr.s think was a migraine weeks after eye surgery. Eye dr. has checked my eyes. Do I have to take this drug every day? Script calls for every 6 hours. I'm a little cautious as I've already had a horrible reaction to clamaspan. Thanks, earle ## Hello, Earle! How are you? The dosage is 300mgs of Acetaminophen, 50mgs of Butalbital and 40mgs of Caffeine. Usually, this medication is taken as needed, rather than all the time. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, nervousness, insomnia and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

is hydroco/apap 5-325 mg stronger than BUTALBITAL, ACETAMINOPHEN, CAFFEINE, AND CODEINE tablets i have BUTALBITAL, ACETAMINOPHEN, CAFFEINE, AND CODEINE tablets for migraine headaches. I had a very bad fall and hurt my arm, shoulder and knee. they gave me hydroco/apap 5-325 mg for the pain. Which of the two is stronger for pain relief? ## Hello, Ann! How are you? Codeine is actually very weak, so for that type of pain, you'll most likely be better off with the Hydrocodone that they've prescribed, it is much stronger and better able to handle the pain from an injury, such as that which occurred due to your fall. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is ...

Is there a prescription formulation of butalbital and caffeine WITHOUT the acetaminophen other than Fioinal? ## Hello, John! How are you? No, I'm sorry, but there isn't. The only ones available contain either Acetaminophen or Aspirin. If you require it without either one, if you have a compounding pharmacy nearby, your doctor may be able to prescribe it and have them create it for you. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness and stomach irritation. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm having a severe headache and have been for 3 days. Went to Dr yesterday and they gave me a script for a headache pill but it didn't work. They also gave me a pain shot and steroid shot that didn't work! Today they called in a script for butalb acetaminophen caffeine 50 300 40 and it's not working. How long should it take for this to work or should I go to see if I need any tests ran? ## It should start to help within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, according to the NIH, since it is a regular release medication. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and stomach pain. Are you on any other medications? Has the headache eased, yet? ## I'm not on any other meds and today is the first day without a headache in 7 days .

Is it possible to overdose on this drug in a way that causes death? What are the symptoms? ## Hello, From what I can gather, this combination can potentially be fatal, but you would have to ingest a very significant amount. A serious overdose of butalbital and acetaminophen may result in toxicity. Toxicity due to caffeine is less likely, due to the fairly small amounts in this formulation. The symptoms of overdosing on these medications are as follows: Butalbital: toxicity from Barbituate poisoning may include confusion, drowsiness, and coma; respiratory depression; hypotension; and hypovolemic shock. Acetaminophen: dose-dependent, potentially fatal hepatic necrosis is the most serious adverse effect. Renal tubular necroses, hypoglycemic coma, and coagulation defects may also occur. Ear...

Hi going thru tough benzo withdraw and wanting to know if butal/acetamin/caf codeine will be ok ## Hi Rick, Sorry to hear about the withdrawals. From what I could gather, Fioricet w/ Codeine (Butalbital + Acetaminophen + Caffeine) is marketed for use in relieving tension headaches and pain. Apparently the caffeine is what works to relieve headache pain, while butalbital and acetaminophen work together to help relieve general pain, relax muscles, as well as decrease anxiety. The codeine, I imagine, would just be an added boost to these effects. So depending on what types of symptoms you're experiencing in regards to benzo withdrawal, then it seems to me that this medication may help to alleviate those one's mentioned above in particular. I hope this helps and wish you a quick rec...
