How long does it take for the pain from a bad migraine to go away? I've been taking the pills for 3 days and I still have my bad migraine. ## Hello, Char! How are you? I am so sorry about the migraine. It should have helped by now, if it was going to do so. As detailed by the NIH, these types of medication usually start to work within 15 to 20 minutes of taking them, so relief should be felt soon after. It might be time to explore other migraine relief options, such as different medications. Dilaudid is often used by hospital ERs to treat them. Have you ever tried it? This means that it would be illegal to obtain them via other means if you reside in the US. So unless you're visiting those other countries in person, you'd have to go through your doctor in order to get what you need. @themayor665 (post #1), No, Acetaminophen in and of itself does NOT contain Codeine at all. I have taken 3 doses of Butalbital Acetaminophen Caffeine (50-325-40) within the last 9 hours. My last one being an hour ago. I'm having a severe headache and have been for 3 days. Went to Dr yesterday and they gave me a script for a headache pill but it didn't work. They also gave me a pain shot and steroid shot that didn't work! Today they called in a script for butalb acetaminophen caffeine 50 300 40 and it's not working. How long should it take for this to work or should I go to see if I need any tests ran? ## It should start to help within 15 to 20 minutes of taking it, according to the NIH, since it is a regular release medication. What are the symptoms? ## Hello, From what I can gather, this combination can potentially be fatal, but you would have to ingest a very significant amount. A serious overdose of butalbital and acetaminophen may result in toxicity. Toxicity due to caffeine is less likely, due to the fairly small amounts in this formulation. The symptoms of overdosing on these medications are as follows: Butalbital: toxicity from Barbituate poisoning may include confusion, drowsiness, and coma; respiratory depression; hypotension; and hypovolemic shock. Codeine is actually very weak, so for that type of pain, you'll most likely be better off with the Hydrocodone that they've prescribed, it is much stronger and better able to handle the pain from an injury, such as that which occurred due to your fall. My boyfriend is a Vietnam Vet and he has a rod in his leg and suffers from migraines all the time sometimes 3 days straight. His doctor gave him something called firinal and only supposed to take 2 a day and lays down. Is 2 too much to take at once? He's 69. He also takes butalbital, too much acetaminophen for the day I think. Won't he get liver damage? His doctor at the VA prescribes him so much he doesn't know what half of them are, so I google everything he gets so I can help him. I've been taking these for nearly 15 years. When the FDA changed the amount of acetaminophen in the pills to 325 or 300 mg (they lowered it, in any case) the manufacturer, since the amount of acetaminophen was changed, used it as an opportunity to say it is no longer a generic so... I no longer take fioricet. I now take butalbitol/caffeine/acetaminophen. If I ask my insurance for Fioracet it costs $350 a month for 60, the B/C/A costs $35.. go figure BUT my main problem is this: the old tablets I got were Qualitest, they were round and greenish blue, they were no problem! HOWEVER, now I am getting some large oblong white caplet that is so chalky I regularly choke on them. At least once a week one stops in my throats and it takes a while to get it down. I am pregnant and I'm taking butalbital + apap (325mg) + caffeine. My doctor says it's ok. Can I take tylenol along with it? ## Do NOT take Tylenol or any other brand of acetaminophen with any other drug containing it. You can accidentally overdose. FDA has recently come out with a "black box" warning about this. Please do a search for Butalbital and you should find the same article regarding acetamenophin and the FDA. ## Diane is correct, in this medication, APAP is just medical speak for Acetaminophen. This medication contains the active ingredient which you are searching for. Drugs/Fioricet.asp ## Fioricet and fiorinal are the same medication with the exception of one thing. Fioricet contains acetaminophen and fiorinal has asprin.
