Any mood altering meds should be tapered off slowly. Talk to your doctor to see how you should slowly adjust your dosage. Check your meds to see if they are benzodiazapines, like Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, Clonazapam etc (they have different names for the brand vs the generic, so check your meds to see what types they are.) They drugs can be addictive and do cause serious withdrawal symptoms. I had seizures when I quit Xanax cold turkey. I am now on Ativan, but a low dose that I only take when I REALLY need it to help with panic attacks and panic related sleeplessness. The more you take these meds, the less they work and the more problems they cause when you stop taking them.
