In the past I have been prescribed .25 mg alprazolam (Xanax) to take as needed. I would take about one a month. I am 46 years old with mild TBI (traumatic brain injury), seasonal depression and PTSD. I am unusual in having zero problems of drug addiction: I am super careful in monitoring my reactions to all medications, will never take anything other than as prescribed, and will still never take anything until first I've researched by myself its dosage, reactions to other medications, dangers and side effects and decided that the prescription is indeed worth taking. My current psychiatrist does not want to prescribe me Xanax, stating that it will cause permanent brain damage. I do not want to take Xanax if indeed just taking it once causes permanent brain damage! However, previously...

Earlier this year, I was hospitalized for a stroke. It was actually pretty mild, I sounded like I was drunk and had a slight droop to my right side of my face. From tests done over time, the doctor's are pretty are convinced it was caused from my untreated high blood pressure. I have had HBP for years, and taking meds for it. My RX ran out last Dec. and my PCP would not refill it, until I check with the cardiologist I had seen one time a year earlier. I emailed her, during this time (12/15/16) because it was Christmas time, probably would not be able to see anyone until after the first of the year, AND I was pretty sure my insurance was going to change AGAIN - THANK YOU Obama care! The past few years, it always seems to change, and FINALLY, by the end of March, you get your new card...

My Mom was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer - spindle cell sarcoma. They have given her 6 months to live. Right now the cancer has spread to her upper rib, right hip, lungs and brain. She also has a clogged artery. She wanted to spend her last months at home so we set up hospice there to care for her during these next months. They started her on morphine to control the pain on .25ml and raised it to .5ml. She started forgetting things and becoming anxious. She forgot one day to tell the nurse she was in pain and waited too long. That night it took a while to get her pain under control. Hospice raised her dosage to .75ml and began administering at least every 4 hours or as needed. Sometimes every 3 hours. Mom became more confused, tired, weak and was losing her memory. She couldn't fini...

I have been trying to start pristiq but I take it once and feel so nauseated, head spins, just a general horrible feeling in my head (possibly the brain zaps others have described) and fatigue. I have a one yr old to care for so if the effects were to continue I would persist, if not I will see my dr about swapping. Will the side effects decrease with time? Stay the same? Or get worse? ## In theory, they should decrease with time, as your body gets used to the medication, but it may take 4 to 6 weeks for that to happen. Learn more Pristiq details here. If they are that bothersome, you may want to consult your doctor about trying a different medication that doesn't cause as many side effects. Some are just more problematic than others. Have you tried any others, or is this the first ...

My bro had a tumor removed in 2009. He was prescribed Keppra. 500 mg bid prophalactily to prevent seizure. Fast forward to august of this year 2014 When after a brain scan. A tumor showed he was treated with radiation. Which made him very sick.myaremts came to fl to take care of him.last week someone noticed that his Keppra bottle said 1000 bid. My brother being sick and unaware increased the doss all at once since then his mobility has gone down and has become urinary incontinent. Went from cane to walker to unable to go. Could this be from the sudden increase of Keppra. His dose was in fact doubled all at once. Since I discovered this in speaking with him he said it was always 500 bid and his me over the years said if it works stay with it. If this is the problem how we get him back d...

I've been on klonopin for a little over 20 years now. 6mgs daily. Was able to taper down to 2-4 mgs while pregnant under ob/gyn care. Even on such a lower dose, bad things occurred. I was horrid. Assaulted my husband. Told a woman she was a bad mom cuz her kids were so unruly. Was aggressive and mean. Had brain zaps. Would forget normal words. When ordering pizza, when asked what toppings I wanted on it, I told them I wanted pizza on it. I've been on this med for so long, my dr will call it in with refills. While I was pregnant, I saw a high risk dr. He told me it would take years for me to get off of this if I was even able to for being on it for so long. Dr that first put me on this didn't talk about how addictive and dangerous it was. Was 18 and didn't think to really...

I just wanted to tell all of you trying to get off pristiq, its possible. I was on pristiq for severe panic attacks for 6 months. It saved my life. It gave me a chance to slow down my career, gave me a huge wakeup call. This drug put a cloud over my brain. I was not my happy, fun loving self. I was like a step ford wife. You can't wean off this pill. I was on 50 mg. I did every other day for a month. Every third day for two weeks then cold turkey. It really was not so bad. I layer on my couch for three days, cried a bit and watched movies. I'm happily on all holistic medications, no longer a slave to Pristiq. If I can beat anxiety, anyone can. My biggest advice.. Exercise. Next, surround yourself with positive people. Three, talk out your problems. Good luck. ## Fantastic advice...

can pristiq and zoloft be taken together? ## Since they both have effects on Serotonin levels in the brain, using them together does increase the risk of someone developing Serotonin Syndrome, which can be very dangerous. Learn more Pristiq details here. Learn more Zoloft details here. So, if they are taken together, then the dosage must be taken under careful consideration by their doctor and they should be monitored closely to watch for any danger signs. Are you on both of these medications? ## I was in a severely bad way, now, mid-30's: Depression, GAD, and ADD/ADHD. Suffered my whole life from symptoms of ALL, obv, only slowly up til my 30s finally getting what I HOPE/ THINK are "all" the proper diagnoses. Now, I, TOO, WANT TO KNOW IF THERE COULD BE BENEFITS TO TAKING PR...

My brother had been on Xanax for 25 years or more, and the age of 58 he was diagnosed with fronto-temporal dementia. Now, 3 years later, he is a complete vegetable with 24/7 caregivers. The Ashton Report strongly suggests that Xanax, as well as other benzodiazopines, can cause severe memory loss, personality impairment and other changes in the brain that are all symptomatic of dementia. Does anyone have similar experience after long-term use of Xanax? ## The answer is possibly but not really. It should be prescribed & watched closer in older people. Also a withdrawal from the medicine can cause serious problems that can be thought of as dementia?

Yes, some studies have shown that long-term use of them increases the risk of developing Alzheimer's and dementia later in life. However, the studies have been unable to prove a direct causal effect, so it really can't be stated with certainty tha...

I was nearly killed in an auto accident in '92. I developed severe fibromyalgia among other problems due to brain damage and temporary coma and paralysis. For years Drs. Told me my pain was all in my head. It wasn't recognized as legitimate until '97. I was unable to even stay conscious due to pain I was eventually put on a very complex cocktail of meds to help me and even achieved some independent life. Now I have learned my medi-care program isn't going to cover it. This will ruin all I've struggled to achieve. They tried me on morphine, didn't do a thing. I already take percocet, valium, soma, and others, yet still need this to overcome the pain. I don't feel good but I can function. I don't know what will happen if taken. Can anyone help me? ## I'...

i had been taking nexito10 iregularly last 9 year.my usage are half or quarter portion of the tablet.i have no idea how can i stop this usage. can you help me ? ## Nexito contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, this is an SSRI antidepressant. Are you taking them by prescription and under a doctors care? These types of antidepressants can be very hard to stop taking, because since they do alter your brain chemicals, they can cause withdrawal effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, irritability and dizziness. To stop their use normally requires a very slow, medically supervised taper and this site is not medical professionals. Have you tried speaking with your doctor? ## You should check with your doc and if asked to continue, use regularly, for me it seems like I can never stop it as ...

I am arguing with the Dr, Ins Co, and Pharmacy... Apparently none of them have enough brains together to understand simple math nor a calendar. The situation... My dad is on nine different medications. Seven of them he takes once a day. The other two he takes twice a day. The doctor will only write prescriptions for 30 per month for the once daily and 60 per month for the twice daily. My dad suffers from blood pressure & heart trouble, diabetes, depression and a history of TIA's & a stroke. He was in a long term care/rehab facility for about a year and they always made sure he had his meds. He was discharged from the facility on Dec 31, 2013 and they gave us medicine to get him through the next two days (Jan 1 & 2, 2014). I had his prescriptions filled on Jan 2. He start...

Chelation therapy is a medical procedure that involves the administration of chelating agents to remove heavy metals from the body. Chelation therapy has a long history of use in clinical toxicology and remains in use for some very specific medical treatments, although it is administered under very careful medical supervision due to various inherent risks, including the mobilization of mercury and other metals through the brain and other parts of the body by the use of weak chelating agents t...

Hi. I was on Topamax 50mg at bedtime only for a month. I lost 15 lbs, fuzzy brain, but most of all terrible thoughts of not wanting to go on, depressed constantly. Been off only 2 weeks. I still am depressed a lot, not nearly as much but my appetite is non-existent. I use to have a big sweet tooth now I can't stand anything sweet. Does anyone know how long till it's out of your system and have you experienced anything like this and how long did it last? Thanks in advance. By the way, I call the drug the demon, I am glad for people who it works for, but others like myself need to be really careful on it. Good luck to all. ## Hello, Ann! How are you doing? Has anything improved, yet? It can sometimes take a month, or so, before the side effects go away and you start to feel more n...
