my husband is in late stage lung cancer with metastases to several bones. that pain is getting harder to control. are there IV pain medications that can be administered at home by an RN? we have home health and do not wish to change to Hospice. thank you for your help ## Hello, Jerri! How is your husband doing? I'm so sorry that he's so ill. And yes, there are IV medications that a home RN could administer, there are also skin patches available that contain a very potent narcotic called Fentanyl, so they might help him more, too. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has his doctor made any suggestions? ## I am very sorry to hear about your husband I...

I have 3 forms of breast cancer plus cervical cancer in 2011. since I had the chemo/radiation I have suffered from severe bone pain. I have taken vitamins, tramadol, oxycodone, hydrocodone and several others and they do not work. I regular physician is unable to prescribe stronger pains medication. I have gone to specialists and they do not know what is causing the severe bone pain. And the Doctors do not know who I should go to and what to do for me. I have insurance through the state which is a HMO, so I have to call ahead for approval. I would like to know what kind of Doctor to go to for stronger pain medication and can help find out the cause. ## Cheryl when was your last ct scan? sounds like they need to check your bone marrow.and maybe go to a mineral metabolism doc. the chemo an...

Our dog was diagnosed with bone cancer and given 6 months to live. The DR. prescribed 100 mg of RIMADYL for him. [sheep dog] 9 1/2 yrs and 50 mg of Tramadol. I also take Tramadol for back pain. The DR. just said to give him 2 RIMADYL A DAY and not to specific on the TRAMADOL 1 to 3 or 4 a day. I don't want to over medicate him or under medicate him. He isn't complaining at all yet. He is like one of our kids and wan't to give him as much pain free time he has left. How do we know when to give him more or less pills as time goes on, and is their any other substitute meds that doesn't cost $80.00 dollars as rimadyl does for a months worth of pills. Thank You ## Carol, to be quite honest with you, while I am very knowledgeable on the use of medications in humans and have ac...

I we was diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago, her2 positive. I went thru chemo, radiation and hercepton treatments. I was put on arimidex daily and the side effect is constant back pain. I'm on medcare (obamacare) and see my oncologist once a year. I occasionally take my husbands 10/325 hydros (he"s had 5 back surgerys) and they definatly work (2 or 3 on a bad day). I have medicade, does anyone know of a Dr in Vegas that will prescribe these? Thank you for any help ## Hello, Valerie! How are you? Have you consulted your doctor about this issue? Arimidex can also cause bone fractures, so you need to have this checked out to be certain of what's going on.

I know someone with stage 4 breast cancer. It has spread to her liver, she has a tumor on her breast bone, etc. How has H-86 worked against this aggressive stage of cancer? ## Hi Michelle, From what I understand, there are no real reports of H-86 being a legitimate cancer drug. There are less than a handful of vague articles that briefly state it's use for such treatments. One other user on here found information claiming it to be a type of fermented wheat germ; however I personally have yet to come across any specific details linking them to one another. If anyone else out there has more information on this H-86 substance, please do share! On a side note, I would like to add that there are several (yes, several) other types of natural cancer killers out there if you do the research...

I've been prescribed a large dose of OxyContin, 360 mgs. per day, + 180 mgs. of Roxycodone per day. Both have been upped over three years for several problems related to my bones, and now cancer. I get terrified that I'll lose them and if I do, will the Drs. replace them? If not, what would be prescribed to get me through the withdrawals? I have heard withdrawals are horrendous and can't imagine going through that on top of cancer and my other issues. I've asked and have been told to just NEVER lose or misplace them. The rules and regulations of the pain management clinic I go to state over and over that they do not replace lost or stolen medications and do not refill early. What does someone do if it does happen? I live in CT. ## If your meds are stolen call the cops an...

I need. A caring doctor close to eastern kentucky willing to write what I've been getting. In too much pain to physically and mentally handle. PLEASE HELP ME!!!! ## Hello, Tina! How are you feeling? I am very sorry that you're in so much pain. Do you have an oncologist that you're seeing regularly? If so, they should be willing to prescribe you a medication to handle your pain. For people with a condition, such as yours, that carries the risk of being fatal, they are not restricted in what they can prescribe and how much, as they are for those suffering pain from other causes. Alternatively, do you have a PCP that could refer you to someone? Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area? The FDA classifies this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potent...

This may be a value for an enzyme. I have a cancer report from a cancer Society which describes a microbe which invades the cells, they have not figured out how but it builds a protein wall around itself to hide from oxygen and the immune system. Proteolytic enzymes break up scar tissue made from protein. certain veggies have proteolytic enzymes. This would reveal the cell to be attacked! There are many veggies, Broccoli, tumeric/curcumin, Kiwi, etc., which display this quality. I personally make CDS and have treated people. My last had bone cancer and was cleared after 2 months by his Oncologist. So sensible eating! Also cancer is a bi-product of drugs and Dysbiosis - google it. I suggest this is the BIGGEST health problem in the world!!

My step dad completed treatment with Harvoni last year and was given the all clear on his Hep C, but 2 days later was diagnosed with MDS. He was going through chemo, hydration and blood transfusions, and recently underwent a bone marrow transplant. He wasn't doing well (fluid build up/adema), and on the 25th went to the ICU, and shortly after, into cardiac arrest. He's now on a ventilator, propofol, fentanyl, and on continuous dialysis. He was gone for 8 minutes. Today, they will be doing an MRI and a lumbar puncture. They want to try to wean him off the meds and take the vent out and see how he does, as when they do the "sedation vacation" in the mornings, he's awake and agitated but not really coherent. The only thing that makes me have hope, is that he is at the R...

Dalaudid is the only medication I have found that helps relieve the pain in my bones from the cancer, and it helps me live a somewhat normal life so I can still get up and around. I am very thankful for it and have had no side effects at all. ## I also take 4mg Dilaudid for breakthrough pain (along with a fentanyl patch) due to compressed nerves and a brain that's too big for my skull. At age 28, after 2 years of suffering, Dilaudid also is the only med that truly releives my suffering and helps me live a more normal life. It was so difficult to get at my age thanks to the people out there who abuse it. I'm thankful that I have it now, though, because it's helping me get my life back. ## Hello Phyllis, and Melanie! I have a high genetic risk of breast cancer and undergo diagnostics every year. I was recommended for a preventative mastectomy in a yr but my most recent scan showed a few cysts and a lesion with internal echoes. My Dr put me on tamoxifen as a preventative measure. I had a fna done which showed papillary architecture in the lesion and was recommended for a lumpectomy and mri which I am having the mri today and the surgery will depend on the results of this as to how soon they do it. Since I have started the tamoxifen I had nausea at the start which has stopped and very severe bone pain especially in my legs hips and hands it'. zolodex is goserelin(sp?) is an IV I receive every 3 mo for malignant neoplasm of prostrate with bone metastases: spine, legs, ankles, hip and abdominal area and ribs. this medication retards the mfr testosterone, which seems to fan the fire of my cancer. How long is zolodex effective? What would happen if I discontinued these IV's (which has plenty side effects)? Would it shorten my life? My psa is now around 16. In Feb 2013 it was over 600. When this treatment no longer is effective, how much time do I have??

Is it a pain killer, can I take it on a continues basis. ## This medication is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and yes, to be effective, it must be taken regularly, as prescribed by your doctor. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and weight changes.
