I've read that betahistine is used to treat tinnitus. Is there information anywhere that supports that? ## I've also heard of patients being prescribed Betahistine for tinnitus, but for verification you can find some supporting evidence here: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21860977 This is a .gov site, so it's contents are considered to be as legitimate as it gets for use as an online reference page. Hope this helps!

I have been on the drug for 11 years and have found it invaluable. ## I was advised by my doctor to take Serc, a betahistamine drug before going thru audiometry. I'm just curious what the drug is for and why i need to take it before audiometry. also, is there any side effect? can I take 2 Novo-Betahistine at the time? ## What dosage are you taking? Betahistine, which is usually used to treat vertigo, has a maximum recommended daily dose of 48mgs, given in divided doses, either 2 or 3 times a day. Taking a higher dosage can also increase the likelihood of side effects, such as headache, nausea and weight loss, thus it's really not advisable to increase the dosage, without your doctor's approval. Have you consulted them, yet?

I was prescribed betahistine hydrochloride to treat recurring vertigo. Another doctor prescribed betahistine mesilate for the same reason. I would like to know the difference between the two. I was taking this medicine when i was admitted in the hospital because of vertigo. The doctor let me take this since my first day in the ward. During my first night in the ward, i started to palpitate every time i tried to sleep. First night was not bad, i managed to sleep but keep waking up from time to time. I told about my doctor about the palpitation but they said they cannot do about this since my ecg is normal. I had three sleepless nights as the palpitation is getting worse everytime i close my eyes. I just realized that it is because of this medicine when i stopped taking betahistine mesylate, palpitation stopped little by little. Im just sharing this for those people who will experience the same thing taking this medicine. ## Pilpitation is accuring every time i take betahistine

I just noticed that my pharmacist has switched me from teva-betahistine to novo-betahistine. I only noticed this because I'm having one of the worst menier's attracts I've ever had. The prescribing information states that you should contact your doctor if you experience these side effects and they are either severe or bothersome. It sounds to me like there could be some sort of withdrawal-like symptoms going on, but at the same time I'm not finding any specific details verifying whether or not Betahistine actually causes withdrawal symptoms....

I am having problems with my balance. When I had this problem 3 - 4 years ago my doctor prescribe a med called Novo-betahistine 16 mg. I have been very tired for a few weeks and I have problems walking straight. I have a few of these meds left can I take one and see if it will help me? ## Hello, Lynn! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the vertigo problem that you're having. If it is several years old, then the medication is most likely no longer effective. Additionally, vertigo can be caused by an infection of the inner ear, so you need to have it checked out and get a prescription for the appropriate medication. You may need an antibiotic. Is there anything else I can help with?
