Fruits to avoid, meats, fish, poultry, cereals, nuts etc. ## Hello, Alex! How are you? As reported by the NIH, the main things to avoid are sweets and high fat foods, which means you also need to watch your fruit intake. However, beyond that, there is no specific list that can be given. Carbohydrates can raise your blood sugar, but it varies from person to person how much they affect it and which ones, some people seem to tolerate certain foods much better than others. The best thing to do is to make sure you eat a healthy, well balanced diet and get lots of exercise. You should also avoid alcohol, because it can lower blood sugar and shouldn't be mixed with most medications. Is there anything else I can help with?

The best diet for a diabetic should be low in sugars and fats, while consisting of lots of fresh vegetables and whole grains. E...

My hematologist wants to switch me off warfarin for one of these three medications - Eliquis, Pradaxa, or Xarelto. I have a history of CVT and a chronic blood condition. Bottom line, whatever he switches me to, I'm likely on it for a long time unless I have complications. But that's the thing. I seem to always be the person who has the ultra-rare side effect that no one ever reads on the fact sheet. So I'm asking, which of these three is tolerated the best? While I've been on warfarin I've gained nearly 60 lbs. I'm vegan. I ride centuries (100mi bike rides). As a result of all the weight gain, other health issues are becoming more pressing. Arthritis, muscle aches, the threat of diabetes, not to mention what it's done to my self-esteem and marriage. I have ab...

I HAVE BEENtaking glucoredfort tablets for controlling TYPE-2 DIABETICS for the last 2o years. recently it appeas this is not working as expectedly. Can any body sugg est any alternatives? ## Are you also watching your diet and getting lots of exercise? When it comes to some medical conditions, such as diabetes, you can't really expect the medication to do all of the work. You can help lower your blood sugar by being careful to not eat high sugared or high fat foods and by exercising regularly. If that doesn't work, then you may have just built up a tolerance to the medication after so many years of taking it. Have you consulted your doctor? They'd be the best person to talk to and see what you need to do and if you need to try a different medication. ## As you are diabetic ...

I can cause nausea, and diarrhea in some people that take it, according to NIH warnings, so you may do better taking it before a meal, it really depends on what works for you. I am 59 years old and have had type 2 diabetes for ~5 years. I've just relocated from Texas to California and am between doctors. I'm 5'5", weigh 260 lbs, and recently started to have extremely low (30) blood sugars at night. I've been taking 2 x 500 mg Metformin and 1 x 2 mg Glimepiride after breakfast and after dinner. What can/should I decrease? ## Hello, Joe! How are you? What type of foods do you eat? Have you tried having a small snack, before bed? Have you gotten into a new doctor, yet? That would be the best thing to do, rather than trying to adjust your medications on your own. You are diabetic, so you need to have things checked out by a doctor regularly. Do you get a lot of exercise?
