The best all-around research site for the drugs in the benzodiazepine (benzo) family is benzo.org.uk. The benzo family is quite large - they are dangerous, often difficult to quit and have shown many long-term (the rest of your life) side effects. Do some homework please and work with your dr. to titrate your dosage. They usually will cut it in half for a period, in half again, as low as they can go, and ultimately cut it. The process can take from weeks to months to years depending on your dosage, body chemistry, drug in use, and many other variables. More power to you!! These are the drugs in the group: Alprazolam -- (Xanax, Xanor, Tafil) Bromazepam -- (Lexotan, Lexomil) Chlordiazepoxide -- (Librium) Clobazam -- (Frisium)5 Clonazepam -- (Klonopin, Rivotril) Clorazepate -- (Tranxene) D...

atarax, a relaxant...what kind? ## THIS IS NOT A BENZODIAZEPINE! Hydoxyzine Info Click Here Atarax is Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride, it can release some anxiety and tension, relieve nausea, and has several other uses, but it is NOT a Benzo. ## Can hydroxyzine hcl work for insomnia during klonopin withdrawal?

Post barbiturates, benzodiazepines took their place for the efficacious usage as the chief anxiolytic agent. Xanax in particular is both very effective yet moderately addictive. Others less so. I have no problem refrainin from them. Most say they are very addictive. YOUR THOUGHTS. ## Hello, Kim! How are you? They are no more safe or dangerous than any other medication, if used properly under doctor's supervision. All medications carry possible risks. However, benzodiazepines are known to be more habit forming and addictive than many others, plus if someone stops them cold turkey, after being on them for a long period of time, there is a risk of their experiencing seizures due to withdrawals. Typical side effects to them may include nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability. I did...

I have been talking diazepam and sometimes xanax for about 5 years, usually to relax and help me sleep, but the odd time they would make you feel angry and a bad temper, anyone else have this issue? ## I blame my anger on the guy running our Country, but perhaps you might need a mood stabilizer like an SSRI? Talk with your Doc ## That is a known side effect of Benzodiazepines, along with nausea, headache, and the risk of being habit forming. It really depends on how severe it is, some people have to stop taking them, and switch to an alternative class of medications. I experienced that side effect from Xanax, but did okay on the Diazepam, when I took them for anxiety. How often does this occur? ## It's not the meds it’s the anger. Anger management for all Democrats. Revert to ...

Is citalopram (208 1g) a benzodiazepine and does it work the same as lorazepam? Can you take citalopram for depression? ## No and no! Citalopram is an SSRI antidepressant, so it is not a benzodiazepine and does not work the same. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## No, thanks very much for your help. But,of course people say things about meds and they don't know what they're talking about. I found some of my old meds lying around (citalopram)and I was just wondering what to do with them. Thanks, again

I'm coming off of years of benzodiazepine abuse. My methadone doesn't even affect me now. I shake as if I'm an alcoholic. I have been feeling isolated and hopeless. ## Unfortunately, since Methadone is an opioid, it doesn't always help with the withdrawals from Benzodiazepines. I am very sorry that you're miserable. How are you coming off of the Benzodiazepines? Are you tapering slowly? Coming off too fast creates the risk of your experiencing seizures, anxiety, and depression, which would be dangerous, so it is very important to taper slowly, under medical supervision.

What is the difference between Benzodiazepine and Nitrodiazepin? ## Well, the only information I could find on Nitrodiazepin was from PubChem. In this case, it appears to be a completely different molecule from the Benzodiazepene structure [1]. I must ask, however, if you accidentally made a typo and meant to ask about the difference between Benzodiazepen and Nitrazepam? If so, Nitrazepam is actually the name of a drug in the Benzodiazepene class. From the description on Wikipedia, it sounds like a rather powerful drug: "Nitrazepam ... is a hypnotic drug of the benzodiazepine class used for short-term relief from severe, disabling anxiety and insomnia. It also has sedative (calming) properties, as well as amnestic (inducing forgetfulness), anticonvulsant, and skeletal muscle relaxan...

I'm scared to death. I've been on 8mgs of xanax for 7 years and on 4mgs of klonopin for 2 years before that. As my tolerance grew so did my need for more xanax but 8mgs is the highest amount allowed to be prescribed. I've tried almost every drug to help with sleep before and nothing worked. I had a doctor that never saw me and all I had to do was pick up my prescription. I never thought I'd lose him. I'm now physically addicted and dependent on xanax. I have gone a day without and I'd rather be dead. I'm near Charlotte Nc and I need an understanding doctor ASAP. I've seized, been to the ER and attempted suicide bcuz the withdrawals are so inhumanely horrible. Nobody should suffer for months like that and it does last for months if you don't end up dyi...

All the ingredients of every thing bactrim has in it. Any benzodiazepines in it at all? ## No, none at all. Bactim is a combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim. Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim.are both antibiotics that treat different types of infection caused by bacteria. Benzodiazepines are used to treat anxety, panic attacks, seizures, muscle spasms and several other conditions. Benzodiazepines are not used to treat infections.

Help! I have been free of lexapro for over a year. Benzodiazepine Cree for 9 months after a very slow taper. I still suffer from anxiety like I never had before, insomnia, chronic pain, irritability and brain fog. Please warn folks not to take these drugs. I want to die almost every day. I am unable to do much. I have been working very hard on this recovery. Thanks. M W. ## Hello, Madeline! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. However, neither of those medications is a cure, so it's highly possible that you still suffer from anxiety and it may have gotten worse with time. While withdrawal can cause some rebound effects, it wouldn't last for 9 months, especially after having done a very slow taper. Have you tried anything else to treat ...

Here's a link with a comprehensive list of withdrawal symptoms which you can have from Neurotin. The symptoms are from Benzodiazepine (Librium and Valium) withdrawal which is similar to Neurontin. Go down to Withdrawal Symptoms. ## As an observer of someone of someone withdrawing from Gabapentin, all I can say is that I've never seen such behavioral changes in people with Benzo addiction and withdrawal as I have in people taking Gabapentin. This may not be true for people taking a low (100 mg 2x daily) dosage that remains constant over a period of years, but it certainly is for a person who begins on a low dosage which is quickly raised over a period of a year to a rather high (800 mg 3x daily) dosage and then asked to begin titration by a new Pain Management Specialist. The per...

Okay I hope im not beng judged here and treated lower just cause of my past and stupid mistakes in the past which brings me to the last dreadful 5 years of opiate addiction.. After 2 years I came clean with my family, to seek further help, but did not want rehab cause you just meet more junkies..ive seen it happen with some friends in high school. So ive always felt strong enough to do it my way. ive been on subutex an suboxone for 3 years, and i have been tapering off the medication for a year. i was employed and receiving an income, but lost my job a couple months ago..i was on 2 a day for a year then, cutting down a quarter every couple months, until i lost my job so i couldnt afford the dr visit and the meds.. especially since i just moved like 8 months ago and recently got IEHP and...

When I was 11 years old I started to feel an excessive fear. Going to school, to my gymnastics classes even to the store across the street was becoming impossible to me! I was getting very depressed and thinking about a way of killing myself! I couldn't do a normal life anymore and I didn't know why and my parents didn't help me saying" I was very shy, that it will pass ...it didn't, got worse and worse I had to try to find a way out by myself at that age... eventually I did, I was avoiding transportation and used to walk for hours ! lied to my parents to avoid school as many times as I could, etc, i made a few friends that were feeling in a way "ignored by their families, school, adults, like me"when I was 15 my life changed completely a friend gave me a ...

I take a plethora of meds for my unhealthy self. Two of these are Physeptone (Methadone mix) 90mg for chronic pain, along with Clonazepam, Roche, Audin, etc.. I am in England so we don't care who makes our meds as they are all free (and anyway we can ask the chemist for another manufacturer). I have to submit urine samples now and again as the government has decided Methadone (even for pain) must be prescribed and monitored by Addiction clinics. This causes me massive problems, especially with other authorities, like my medical 3 yearly driving licence. Well, in the last 4 months, my lab results have been crazy. They should be positive for Methadone and Benzodiazepines (as I take 8mg Clonazepam for epilepsy). The problem is that the Methadone is positive but the Clonazepam has been ...

Does the Buprenorphine / Naloxone 8mg / 2mg Film block Benzodiazepines from doing their job? I'm trying to figure out if Suboxone blocks anything else but opiates? ## Dear Allie, I'm on suboxone as well as Klonopin. The Klonopin has always worked well for me, and, I've been on them both 4 almost 8 years. ## Hello, Allie! How are you? Your doctor should have informed you that the Naloxone in the Suboxone only blocks opioids. ## long story short. Last Dec I was in a bad car accident. Broke my neck in three places and broke my leg in 3 as well. Enter oxycodone...90 mg per day. Soon to follow a nice opiate addiction. Im tired of the pills and talked to my doctor about suboxone. He agreed to start me on a 2mg per day dose for 7 days then a 1.75 mg per day dose for 7 days after th...

Hi, I recently lost my psychiatrist of seven years because he moved. I have been on klonopin for that entire time and am afraid that if I start with someone new they will take me off the klonopin because I have a history of abusing pain pills. Does anyone know of a doctor/psychiatrist in the Denver metro area that is willing to prescribe benzodiazepines? ## I'm 40 and have ptsd from prison. I need Xanax to function. ## A Dr. Tsamasfyros on 4200 9th ave has prescribed 60 .5 klonopins. Not much, but takes medicaid. ## David, I'm afraid most mental health providers would require a complete consultation before even considering a rx for a benzo. Unfortunately when they learn you were an inmate they may fail to see your PTSD as genuine or may offer to prescribe a non benzo based anxie...

Can a combination of benzodiazepine (Atian SL 1mg) and Phentermine (Duromine 15mg) cause harm? ## Hello, Tessa! How are you? Yes, there can be issues, since the benzodiazepine is basically a downer and the Phentermine is basically an upper. Taking medications like this that kind of war with each can sometimes cause problems in the body, since it doesn't know which directive to follow. It can occasionally be like creating a shock reaction. Thus, you should not take them both, unless your doctor has specifically told you to do so. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was in a wreck in 2001 and it mangled the left side of my body. My left arm is most visible from the outside. I have records in order. I've had a great relationship with my 78yr old Dr until the last 3 months. I have been in Methadone 90mg/day + Valium 40mg 3Xs/day for over 16years. He very suddenly decided to stop prescribing my Valium (for severe muscle spasms and heart arrhythmia that causes SEVERE panic attacks) because he suddenly says, after 8 yrs of prescribing them both, that using them in combination KILLS. However, all the literature he's citing says if they are ABUSED in combination, that's when it's deadly. I'm an RN, so he knows I call bulls*** when I hear it AND during his mad, hair brained total cold turkey-ing my benzodiazepine, I suffered a stroke ...

I had a tremendously horrible up-bringing. My parents werent physical, with me, but the verbal abuse was so intense that I can no longer take it. I worry non-stop then I worry about why I am worrying about so many things. Takes me forever to fall asleep, then I get up tired. I just completed 6 weeks of Lexapro, & sure, it helps...but only just very slightly makes me feel happier. Ive had Effexor XR, Zoloft & Abilify. All of it makes me weird & extremely tired. Not a good pride to pay for the very minute feeling of happiness. And yes, I let them run their course for 3-4 weeks. I cannot handle it anymore. I cant even look for them off the street now because i cant chance a random UA at my job. I have zero self-esteem, have a hard time communicating & i just want it to go a...

When it comes to anxiety, the truth is that coping mechanisms (medically & behaviorally) are different for everyone. There are some who wholeheartedly feel that anxiety meds are not the answer, and while they may relish in other forms of distraction, we all share common a desire to make ourselves feel better in the moment through whatever means we respectfully deem necessary. Individual rights to one's perceived sense of adequate treatment should not be infringed upon by another's skewed perception of what only works best for his or herself. So in a rather complex and controversial outlook to the way anxiety should be treated, it seems that doctors and psychiatrists alike have taken a timid stance to prescribing benzo's - But is it really ethical and fair to the well-bei...
