cough medication ## I was prescribed Benzonate for my cough while I had Bronchitis. It was not helpful at all and the over the counter medicine, Nyquil did a better job. Would not fill this medicine if prescribed to me again. ## Not all drugs work for everyone. ## I was given Benzonate for a cough and have been taking it now for 5 days. I have long been a poor sleeper,aggravated by cough, sore throat and mucus. Finally I had my stomach stitched; no difference and the medics have lost interest. Cetirizine and inhalers don't help except menthol. Is it possible that an inhaler with benzedrine would help me sleep better?Thanks, Mike. ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Can I take NY quil when taking benzonatate 100 MG tid? ## @Nellie, According to The University of Maryland's drug interaction checker there aren't any discrepancies listed between Nyquil and Benzonatate. Based on that, I'd suspect that it should be fine to take the two together; especially since Benzonatate is non-narcotic. Your thread title also asks "what is benzonatate" - Benzonatate is described as an oral cough suppressant that's not prone to abuse. It's effects reportedly last anywhere from 6 to 8 hours. I cannot stop coughing. The doctor started me on levfloxacin this eve. I need to stop coughing... but the meds are threatening to make me throw up. Help. ## Hello, Leemar812! How are you? Unfortunately, there are far too many cough syrups on the market for me to be able to check them all for against the Levofloxacin, especially since I have no idea which ones you have access to. Have you tried calling your doctor to ask? Is there a specific cough syrup you usually use? ## If the cough is a dry cough benzonatate might help. Why would I be prescribed Lorazepam with Tessalon perels and Amoxicillin for acute bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection? ## Hello, Curtis! How are you? The pearls are used to suppress cough and the Amoxicillin is an antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. I am not sure, however, on the Lorazepam. Did you doctor explain?
