Belbuca Buprenorphine

Buprenorphine is an opioid used to treat opioid use disorder, acute pain, and chronic pain.[8] It can be used under the tongue (sublingual), in the cheek (buccal), by injection (intravenous and subcutaneous), as a skin patch (transdermal), or as an implant.[8][9] For opioid use disorder, it is typically started when withdrawal symptoms have begun and for the first two days of treatment under direct observation of a health-care provider.[...

My Dr. is wanting to put me on Belbuca for my pain. Could you please tell me a little more about it? ## It contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine, which is a potent opiate. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, and headache. Not everyone that tries it achieves pain relief, but the only way to find out how it will work for you is by trying it. Are you on any other medications?

I've been taking 30-40 mg of oxycodone #100 tabs per month for two years. Today my pain management doctor says "I'm not longer writing any pain meds except this, belbuca." He gives me 30 tabs of Tylenol #4 to take for withdrawal while pharmacy orders in new drug. He is starting me on 450 mcg films bid. Aren't I facing serious withdrawal symptoms and a long weekend and 2. Should I be worried about respiratory depression at that starting dose? ## @Kim, Sorry to hear about your situation. For starters, I feel that it's best to just focus on remaining calm and not worry yourself to the point of stressing over things that may not occur. I think the doctor recommended the 450mcg films because in his medical expertise it seemed appropriate. However, you should always co...

Is there a certain mg that one should be taking when starting on Belbuca? ## Ideally, your doctor should determine the dose based on your pain levels, as well as your response to similar medications. The manufacturer, and FDA recommend starting with the lowest possible effective dosage, for the shortest possible treatment duration. The FDA also warns that Belbuca carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, constipation, dry mouth, and headache. My doc took me off 5mg methodone 5 times a day and replaced it with 75 mcg Belbuca twice a day. Then left town with no backup doc. I'm not getting good coverage and its of course the weekend. Anyone know what the Buprenorphine equivalent of 25 mg of methodone is? ## I'm sorry that you're in pain. There aren't really any conversions for going from Methadone to a different opiate. Methadone is also notorious for causing withdrawal and rebound symptoms, if someone stops it abruptly, so that could be what's happening to you. Have things improved? The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. It may just take a few weeks,...

My doctor gave me the Belbuca to replace the norcos. Which one is better/stronger: Belbuca 150mg strip or norco 10-325? ## Hi Connie, Because Belbuca (Buprenorphine) and Norco are two different meds, there's no accurate way to compare their efficacy without having already taken both medications yourself to know how your body reacts/responds to each one. Some people say that they get efficient pain relief from Buprenorphine, while others suggest that it does nothing for their pain. There are also many variables to consider, such as the inactive ingredients that may affect bioavailability (or how well the tablet is absorbed and metabolized). Some of these pills have tons of binders/fillers and others have very little. Different manufacturers also use better or worse quality ingredient...

My pain mgt. doctor has decided that he wants to take me off Oxycodone 40mg per day and put me on Belbuca. I don't want to do this, but he is leaving me with no choice. What should I expect? ## How is he doing the transition? In order to start the Belbuca, you'll need to be off the Oxycodone for several days, otherwise it could throw you into precipitated withdrawals. Belbuca contains the active ingredient Buprenorphine, so the FDA warns that it also carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Ref: Belbuca Information Many doctors are switching their patients as a precaution to help prevent them developing opiate abuse. ## How many days should I be off? Withdrawals do not sound like fun. Has anyone else been prescribed Belbuca? I'm unable to have any other opiates prescribed to me and now I'm on this med. I'm surprised how well it works after a few adjustments to get the dosage right. I'm currently on 600 mcg 2x day. I have lots of back issues and I used to take Hyslinga 30 mg x 2 day and oxycodone 10 mg 5x day. This stuff is much easier to manage then the pills, and the pain relief is great.. ## That's awesome, so very glad that it is working so well for you, since it tends to be hit or miss for some people. The FDA warns that Belbuca does carry the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, and headache. Is anyone else also experiencing good results on this medication? ## The dosage ...

So I've been doing some research and came across these new drugs out now or coming soon. Just wanted anyone's opinion on them. Or if you have tried them, what do you think? 1: Vantrela ER (Hydrocodone Bitartrate) 2: Arymo ER (Morphine Sulfate) 3: Probuphine (rod-shaped subdermal implant that last for up to 6 months & costs anywhere from 1,700-5,000 bucks for six months worth) 4: Belbuca (Buprenorphine) doses run from 75-900 and costs run from 250-700 bucks There's one more but it does not have a name yet. It's just called NKTR-181. So if anyone has any info on these please share your thoughts and or if you tried any of them please let me know how they worked or didn't work. Or if I left some out or you heard of other ones I didn't mention please feel free to ...

I took a 12mg suboxone yesterday early am. When can I take my 25mg fentanyl patches?? ## Hello, Jennifer! How are you? Usually, you need to wait about 3 days, due to the Suboxone blocking the action of other opiates, unless your doctor has instructed you otherwise. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Suboxone, subutex, nor any form of buprenorphine will block Fentanyl. Fentanyl has a higher affinity for opiate receptors. I know this because I am on Belbuca (was on subutex) for chronic pain. I've taken all forms of opiates that exist! I don't want to be on oxycodone or any othe...

seem to be getting confused between the differences as I did think both were opiates ## Hello, Todd! How are you? I'm sorry about your confusion and I'm happy to help clear it up for you. Oxycontin contains the opiate Oxycodone in a time released formulation. However, Percocet contains Oxycodone coupled with Acetaminophen. Oxycodone is also available as a regular release formulation and an instant release, called Roxicodone and Oxy IR, respectively. The FDA lists this as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have been prescribed Belbuca 150 mcgs to take in addition to Percocet 10/325 tid. Should this provide...

I am currently prescribed Belbuca 150 mcg/every 6 hrs. with Tramadol 50 mg. for break-through pain due to Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome/Chiari Malformation/Degenerative Disc Disease. My PCP does random urine screens (unannounced) periodically. Last February I had to stop the Butrans Patch due to severe skin blistering/chemical type burns caused by the patch medium, hence the change to Belbuca. I am also prescribed Movantik for OIC and take it as prescribed every morning. I am now showing "positive" for Naloxone/Suboxone on my urine screens and am being treated like I'm an addict -- even though the report from the lab states "patients taking Movantik (a pegylated derivative of naloxone) have been associated with positives on this test". I'm not taking any illicit drugs -...

I take xanax, butalbital-asa caffeine, hydrocodone-apap, gabapentin, methocarbamol, citalopram hbr, lamotrigind, and pravastation and I tested postive for barbs, benzos, methamphetamine and thc ..I know what thc Is. I know what methamphetamine Is, but aint had that since 1995. But as for the others I dont know what they are. I was wondering if u can tell me what caused me to test positive in a urine test for all of them..thank you ..and god bless. ## I have been testing positive in a urine test for months. I have not taken anything except the methocarbamol and now the bill Belbuca but the prescribing doctor has said it is showing up as a benzo (a Valium-like substance). Anyway it also showed up that I took cocaine and methamphetamine. How could th...
