Will a seven day dose work. I went to Mexico to buy it and the box only has 14 and the dosage is for 1 every 12 hours. ## The dosing schedule for this drug is largely dependent on the severity of the type of infection you may be dealing with. For example: The usual adult dosage in the treatment of acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 14 days. For the treatment of traveler's diarrhea, the usual adult dosage is 1 Bactrim DS (double strength) tablet or 2 Bactrim tablets every 12 hours for 5 days. The recommended dosage for patients with documented Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia is 75 to 100 mg/kg sulfamethoxazole and 15 to 20 mg/kg trimethoprim per 24 hours given in equally divided doses every 6 hours...

My dog has an ear infection and I have some bactrim ds that I couldn't take. I was wondering if he could take this medicine and what dosage would I give him? He weighs 23-25 lbs. ## Hi Kat, When it comes to potent antibiotics such as Bactrim, I feel it is vital to contact an experienced veterinarian who can assess the dog's condition in person first and then make an appropriate medical decision based off their evaluation. Just to add, Bactrim is in fact prescribed to dogs and cats alike for various types of infections. My only concern is that Bactrim tends to cause a lot of side effects in humans, so I can only hope that your dog has a positive response to it. If you have a moment, please post back on how things are going with treatment. ## How much bactrim should I give my 60lb...

I went to my pulmonary doctor today. I wasn't sure if I had allergies or an upper respiratory infection (not severe). I have asthma, and did not do as well with my breathing tests as I usually do. The Doctor heard a slight wheezing in my chest. He gave me 5 days of Bactrim DS. Is this a normal dose or should he have ordered pills for more days. ## Hello, Linda! How are you? No, it can be used like that, if he thinks an infection might just be starting, or he's trying to prevent one. Its side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

How many days of Bactrim use does it take to cure strep throat? ## Did your doctor prescribe it for treating strep? The reason I'm asking is because there are certain types of strep that it shouldn't be used to treat, so you shouldn't take it for strep, unless your doctor has specifically instructed you to do so. Learn more Bactrim details here. As to the dosing, it's usually taken twice a day for 10 days to treat most infections, but that can also vary depending on the type of infection being treated and the severity. ## Tengo gramos en la piel con nucleo de color verde porulento me mandaron el bactrim y tengo una mano inflamada, enrojecimiento y dolor, estoy tomando el medicamento correcto? ## What can a person use for the mouth sores and cracked lips from reaction of th...

I have interpharm 800-160 antibiotic. Was wondering what that dosage would be for my 6 year old? My 14 year old took I tablet twice daily so was wondering if I could just cut the tablet in half? ## Hello, Denise! How are you? Has your child's doctor prescribed this for them? Antibiotics shouldn't be used, unless a doctor confirms the presence of a bacterial infection, because improper use creates the risk of developing antibiotic resistance. Additionally, when an antibiotic is prescribed you need to be sure that you or your child finishes the entire course of treatment to ensure that the bacteria is completely eradicated. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## I was wondering if there is anything in it that would he...

I have just been prescribed Bactrim DS and have taken half doses to start with. Taking medication is stressful if you have fear of reactions like I do. Hope you feeling ok. Tanya ## Hello, Katie and Tanya! How are you both? No, it will not work as well if you only take half the dosage. You need to take the full tablet, just as prescribed, in order for it to properly eradicate the bacteria. It may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Pill imprint H 49 has been identified as Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim 800 mg / 160 mg, is this the same as the pill IP 272? I ask because I have been using the IP 272 pill for 7 years, and my pharmacy just filled it with the H 49 version. Same strength? same drug? Please advise ## Yes, they both contain the same medications in the same dosages. It is completely normal for your pharmacy to switch which manufacturers product they have on hand, depending on who was offering the cheapest price, at the time they needed to restock their supply. Are there any other questions or comments?

Hi I rescued a horse and it has a puncture wound in her breast area looks like maybe for a t post can I give her Bactrim DS 800-160 tab and if so how many should I crush in her food?? Thanks!! ## Hi CC, Sorry to hear about your horses condition. From what little bit I'm finding, some people suggest giving one 800/160 mg. Bactrim tablet per 100 lbs of horse (basing their dosage on the weight of the horse). Although I'd imagine this number could vary greatly depending on the severity of the condition. I also realize you posted this almost a week ago, but it sounds like your best bet would probably be to consult a veterinary clinic who specializes in horse treatment. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Bactrim Details I wish your horse well and hope it improves soon!

I am prescribed Bactrim DS 160/800mg (2) Double Strength tabs every 12 hrs. for a A.Baumannii infection from the OR which took me back to the OR to remove the infection now as I heal I am on Double Strength 800mg x 12 hrs. Has anyone else taken this much dosage and for how long? Kind of bummed that this bacteria was hanging out in the OR in the first place. Metallic taste in mouth constantly other than that I am tolerating it well. This SUPERBUG originated in IRAQ now in Southern California ## This dosage is actually very commonly used in adults, so it's not unusual. The regular strength is usually used in children or the elderly that may be more susceptible to side effects or adverse reactions. The FDA lists the possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-al...

my pill is white oblong I was just wondering what the difference is regarding the info i have noted in the subject area, versus the 58 59 and letter v you indicate on your info. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is the generic for the antibiotic Bactrim and, as a generic, it is manufactured by several different companies. So the only difference in the 2 you've mentioned is that they have been manufactured by different companies. By law, even though the medication and dosage may be the same, each company has to use different imprints, so if there would be an emergency, such as accidentally tainted product, the manufacturer can be identified, so the matter can be properly handled. what is the difference between sulfamethoxazole tmp ss tab and sulfamethoxazole tmp ds tab (bactrim ds tablet)? Are they same dosages? Can one use them interchangeably? Thanks ## Hi wayne, From what I could gather, I believe the difference between the "SS" vs "DS" is single strength and double strength tablets. The DS tablets reportedly contain double the amount of active ingredients and I've also heard this was the case from other patients who've received an answer to this question as well. The other important difference to know about is that the double strength tablet is usually only taken twice daily as opposed to four times a day with the regular strength tablets. So if you're going to be interchanging between the two dosages, you'll also have to take...

The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you sure your doctor told you to take them both? What other medications are you taking? How severe was the bite?

Is there any difference between sulfameth/tmp ds tab and Sulfameth Tmp ss Tab? If so what are they What does the extention ds versus ss mean anyway? ## The DS stands for double strength, because it has double the amount of the active ingredients as was in the original formula. However, the only thing I am aware of concerning prescriptions that use SS is a sliding scale, meaning the dosage is half or less than the original, so I am not sure if that's what this means, or not. Learn more Bactrim details here. Is anyone else familiar with the SS and what it stands for?
