Baclofen Side Effects

I was prescribed Baclofen to help with my alcoholism, ramping up to 5 per day. It made me drowsy - I literally fell asleep with a fork in my mouth. I could not walk a straight line, swerving when I tried. And my favorite - I peed the bed three times. I already can do these things when I'm drunk. ## Hello, Boz! How are you doing? It may be that you're on too high of a dose for your body. Dizziness, drowsiness, headache, and dry mouth can all be normal side effects of this medication, as reported by the FDA, and the higher the dosage, the more severe they would be. Have you informed your prescriber? A lower dosage might work better for you and not cause such awful side effects.

How good does Baclofen work? Does it have any side effects? ## Does anyone take this drug for trigminal neurolgia. I take gabapentin, 400mg (2 x3times a day). I am really suffering, so dr suggested taking baclofen (pacifen) as well. Anyone have any comments? ## Well Baclofen is a muscle relaxant, so it does help if part of your pain is caused by muscle aches, sprains, or spasms. the only way to really know it to try it for a few weeks and see if helps you. As to the Gabapentin, some people get great results from it and some don't, it really only works for certain types of nerve pain, so it does not help everyone and it is not a pain reliever. I suggest speaking to your doctor about it as if you have been on it for awhile with no luck, then it is time to switch and try something else...

My sister has been using Baclofen to self medicate. She has overused the drug so much that she now hallucinates and is paranoid. She has been in and out of rehabs and psych units. What is the long term effect of this medication? I am afraid that it has put her over the edge. Please advise. ## Hello Debbie, Overuse of Baclofen can lead to numerous side effects, many of which can be dangerous. It's critical to restrict the intake of Baclofen to 80 mg per day (maximum for an adult). Hallucinations are typically not a result of overdose, but rather from abruptly discontinuing the medication. You should never immediately stop Baclofen intake. Instead, you need to gradually taper down the intake of Baclofen and then discontinue it. For instance, if the medication is stopped one day and th...

They can both cause some depression of the central nervous system, so you need to know to watch for any possible danger signs, such as extreme tiredness, dizziness and somnolence. I have been takeing soma for muscle spasms for a while know. Another doctor wanted me to try Baclofen 20mg. I found that the Baclofen made me feel a little strange and dopey. The Soma does not. I do like to take the Baclofen at night instead of Soma as it makes me very sleepy and does help me sleep better and longer. I like the Soma for dureing the day because it does not make me sleepy and can function better. When my body feels tired I experience more pain and spasm, hence the Baclofen when need to sleep. Hope this helps ## It is normal for medications to work differently, for different people. Sometimes, when your doctor wants you to try something different, you have to give it a go, for a few weeks and then just let them know if it has bad effects or doesn't work as well for you....

I have DDD, scoliosis, which is serious, have herniations and bulging discs in cervical spine and also in lumbar spine. I can't walk without cane. I would like to know if anyone has had problems taking Baclofen and celexa together, I I am on 60 milligrams of Baclofen a day due to a back surgery. I just started Celexor 1 week ago 20 milligrams, and I am not sleeping well. ## Hello, Rhonda! How are you? Actually, it is most likely just due to starting the Celexa. SSRI antidepressants are well known to cause sleep disturbances for about the first 4 to 5 weeks of taking them, while your body is getting used to the medication. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

Is Flexeril safe to take after age 60? I have muscle pain. I get all tied in knots and can't even stand up straight. My doctor gave me Baclofen and it did nothing to help me, but Flexeril has always worked. ## The older you are, the more sensitive you might be to the side effects of any given medication. When it comes to muscle relaxants, the NIH warns that they may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. However, only you and your doctor can decide which is best for you. Have you told them that the Baclofen isn't working for you? Are you on any other medications?

I have been taking Flexeril for about 10 years and my doctor gave me Baclofen. Which is better? ## There isn't really any muscle relaxant that is better than another, it depends on which one works best for you, Have you tried taking the Baclofen, yet? The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and dry mouth. ## What exactly does Baclofen do? Does Baclofen help to decrease the number of muscle spasms you experience? And does it also decrease the intensity of muscle spasms?

Baclofen can have some calming effects, but it is really a muscle relaxant, so it isn't likely to completely treat anxiety. ## hi thanks for reply, psychiatrist is a leading doctor in the treatment of addiction/anxiety,and is taking me up to a 100mg a day,he professed to having had large successes in anxiety reduction in the use of this drug.have seen many stories of people going to much higher doses, where they reach a 'switch off' point for all addictions. it was a book, The End of My Addiction | Olivier Ameisen, MD, that s...

I am a case manager and I have a young quadraplegic with a g-tube that needs Baclofen suspension. does anyone know where I might be able to get this for him? ## Actually, your pharmacy or the small pharmacies that do compounds should be able to mix it up. Do you have any hospitals in your area that has outpatient pharmacies? This is your best bet. If your pharmacist is leary to do it have him go to www.sickkids.ca/pharmacy as this website gives him step by step instructions on how to mix the compounds. ## That is correct, if a regular pharmacy doesn't carry it in a suspension form, any compounding pharmacy should be able to fill the prescription for you. Baclofen is a muscle relaxant, and the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, constipation, h...

I have been taking 80mg of baclofen a day for the past month now. I started it October 2nd 2013-November 4th 2013. I have now been going through withdrawals from the medication for 5 days now and was curious if it will be over with very soon? I ask this because i haven't been on it long but am not sure how long this withdrawal feeling will last. I am feeling the mental withdrawal and the muscle issues at this point now. Can someone please help me out with when I will or should be getting back to normal mentally and physically? ## Hello, Steph! How are you feeling? It's difficult to say, since everyone is different. Anyone else experience this? ## I didn’t put the two together until I switched spasm meds and got the first time in years I didn’t have any issues. Unfortunately I was allergic and am back on baclofen, and it’s a problem again. ## The FDA lists increased urination, and urinary incontinence as being common side effects of Baclofen, along with nausea, drowsiness, and abdominal pain. I take 30 mgs of baclofen per day and was recently prescribed gabapentin 300mgs 3 x daily. The other day after taking my last dose of gabapentin, I became extremely lethargic and went to sleep. I awoke to my body slamming on the floor as I had rolled out of bed. This has never happened before. Is it the combination of the two meds that caused this? ## Hello, Zim! How are you? The lethargy may be due to the combination of the two. However, I've not heard reports of falling out of bed. It could've been due to very vivid dreaming, which the Gabapentin can sometimes cause. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Has it happened, again, or just that once? ## Just the one time so far. Thanks...
