Morphine is a pain medication of the opiate family that is found naturally in a dark brown, resinous form, from the poppy plant (Papaver somniferum). It can be taken orally, sublingually, via inhalation, the trans-dermal route, inter-anally as well as via injection (both subcutaneously as well as more commonly intravenously.[7][9] It acts directly on the central nervous system (CNS) to induce analgesia and alter perception and emotional response to pain. I was taking 90 mg cap x 1 a day. Was switched to 45 mg 2 x a day. Can I just take unused 90 mg & separate evenly ? Even though time release type the spit can't be that much different in quantity. Half is half. Saw earlier that to dangerous to split but don't understand why it would be, especially if you're only actually taking a total of 90 mg a day. Thanks for any thoughts on this ## Because cutting, crushing or splitting time released tablets or capsules could cause you to get too much of the medication, at once. In this case, it may not all be evenly spread throughout and the outer coating could actually be vital to the time released mechanism. No, I understand that in your case, it may not make as big of a difference, since you were taking 90mgs at once, but doing s...

I've been taking 90mg Avinza twice daily for about 11 years, with the addition of percoset 5mg 2-4x a day over the last two years. I still couldn't sleepplus had major anxiety issues, and after trying Ambien (awful!), Klonopin, Xanax & other meds that made me brain dead the next day, I finally began using cannabis with great success. It even relieved my pain by making me stop focusing on it. Then I scored a 21 on a drug panel at pain mgmnt and now they are tapering me off morphine & cold turkey on percocet. I've taken it for a decade and I'm terrified because I know my body is addicted. I don't drink, I barely smoked cannabis but will continue to and I've never abused my meds, but I know it will be a hard transition. Do I need to find a doctor to write fo...

Do u know which med will likely give me more pain control and consistent relief: 10mg of methadone or 60 mg of avinza? I am currently taking methadone with very little relief and I was looking throughput my medical records and realized that approximately nine years ago I was taking avinza. I don't recall whether or not I had better pain control back then as compared to now because it's been so many years and my condition has worsened drastically in the past year. I wondering if anyone has any more information for me that could help me. compare the two medications. I'm not sure if I want to switch from methadone to avinza or ask to increase the methadone. Thank u. ## Hi Laura, Since your reaction to medication will be completely different than someone else's, no one can r...

Is Avinza a suitable substitute for Morphine? ## What is it made of if it's a substitute? ## I would like to know the ingredents of this medicine is, and it does not last longer than Kadian as my Dr, said? ## Avinza is just another brand name for Morphine, it comes in a 24 hour dosing. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming, and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Is there anything else I can help with?

The new generic kadian how does it compare with avinza 90 mg on price. What does of kadian is equal to 90 mg avinza. ## Hi, George! How are you? Both Avinza an Kadian are just time released formulations of Morphine, thus the dosage, associated risks and side effects would all be the same. Learn more Morphine details here. There has actually been a 12hour time release formulation of it available as a generic for many years, thus you may want to talk to your doctor about taking it.

I was in an auto accident 8/21/96 and ever since then I have been dealing with Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). For the last 11 yrs I have been on Avinza 270 mg (2 120mg, 1 30mg once a day) by King Pharmaceutical and now my ins company is insisting that a generic is made and sold in the US by Acatavis Elizabeth. I cannot see anything current that it has been released. There is a legal suit between King and Acatavis because it states a generic cannot be released until 11/2017. Generics do not work for me and right now I'm fighting it, but would like to know if it is true about Avinza being made and sold in the US by Actavis. Please let me know if you're able to, I would surely appreciate it. Thank you! ## Hello, Lorraine! How are you? The databases are showing that a generic f...

What is the difference in ingredients in generic Avinza, and Avinza. I am allergic to the generic. Need to know this. ## Hello, Paula! How are you? What type of allergic reaction did you have? What symptoms did you experience? Do you know what the markings were on the generic, or who the manufacturer was? It is made by several different companies, so I can't answer your question, without this additional information, since the inactive ingredients can vary from one company to another. The FDA lists this medication as being a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## Avinza is a yellow & white capsule. The first generic was a blue capsule. My pressure dropped so ...

Is the brandname RX product more tamper proof. Like Tylenol in capsule form there is a band holding both parts of the capsule together. The Avinza is easily pulled apart. At one time I opened the capsule and tasted the beads and it tasted just like salt. What can you do? ## Prescription products are required to be packaged in tamper proof containers, when they are shipped to your pharmacy. The actual tablets or capsules are considered protected via this method, because they are not opened, until your pharmacist or pharmacy tech opens them, with leaves minimal chance for them to be tampered with. The salty taste can be normal for this medication, because it is manufactured from the base salt Sulfate, that doesn't mean it was tampered with, however, if you feel that it was, then pleas...

My pain doctor has changed me from 10 mg methadone to 120 avinza how long get before relief.with the new avinza? There was an issue with taking methadone for years it would cause heart problems. I have been on Methadone for 5 - 8 years. Has anyone done this and how long does it take for the relief to come? ## To equal 10mgs of Methadone only requires 37.5mgs of the Morphine, so there shouldn't be a lot of different in the relief, since you were placed on 120mgs, but you may be dealing with some withdrawal rebound pain from stopping the Methadone. Has your doctor provided you with any advice on it?

What to do when my pharmacy suddenly lost dea license without any notice leaving me with three 90mg of Avinza left? New RX is to be filled today and will be trying to find pharmacy to fill it-suspect as I live in Florida I will have no luck getting it filled. I am not a street drug user and I don't drink. Have been taking for many years for multiple severe pain issues that started 33 yrs ago after hit by drunk/drugged driver. Seems it doesn't matter that I have current documentation of valid reasons for my pain medication and pain management doctor gave 2nd opinion of validity over many years. Am I in store for horrible withdrawals and/or possible death (have Atherosclerosis which is what caused my sister to die of a sudden massive heart attack.) Why in God's Holy Name are r...

My pain Dr. Writes 5 8mg. Dilaudid plus 1 60mg. Avinza 1every 24 hrs. time released morphine, I have been on the dilaudid 4-5 yes. Seems they don't work as well as they used to. What I do take would keep most people from sedated but I still have some pain and can't seem to do much with or without my meds. any suggestions? ## Sorry to hear about your challenges with pain. If I could suggest anything that might be of help, it would be to include natural treatment options that can safely be used alongside your medication(s) as a sort of adjunctive therapy. Depending on what type of pain your dealing with, I do know that some medical marijuana clinics offer a CBD/THC 50/50 concentrate that your spray a few times in your mouth and it helps relieve a very noticeable amount of pain in ...

I can't afford Avina co pay anymore. ## Might be able to offer you some help. I was on Avinza, and yes it is costly. I found few years ago a website or place to get my medicine and you can have an income. Go to www.FreeMedicine.com to request application. The good thing is can have income level of $80K and family of four. Some sponsors offer help for patients who can't afford their co-insurance fees. I was paying $5.00 for s/h to be delivered by Fedex or UPS. I suggest to check out website, they carry over 5,000 types of medicines. They do charge a fee for each medication. BRING BACK AVINZA! I've had Chronic Pain for 36 years daily. For almost 25 years now I've been taking strong Narcotics, mostly though I've been taking one kind of Morphine or another. But the best I've had for my C1-C2 Pain, and head, facial, and upper body Pain (that is also somewhat due to severe head injury, and the multiple head and face injuries that I had) has been AVINZA! It worked so well for my Pain and in relation to my body, that I classified it as a Miracle drug. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement, as of yet one year later I have NOT found one that compares anywhere close to it, though I can't get MS Contin, or Oxy-Contin paid for and which I'd like to try again with the correct dosage; as when I used it years ago it was not at all being...
