Hi all, Firstly a disclaimer, if you have just eaten and have a soft stomach, avoid this post. You've been warned. My dentist prescribed a two week regime of Augmentin for minor work that needs to be performed on a tooth. I finished the prescription one week ago. And I still have some odd side effects. Before I started taking this, I had a normal energy level where I could exercise and do my work, etc. Now I have wayyyyyy too much energy and even though I start to feel drowsy at my regular time when I got to bed, I can't fall asleep until 2 -3 hours later. The other effect I've been experiencing are dry lips. This is annoying. There is no change in saliva and my mouth is just as moist as before taking Augmentin. Also during the last three weeks it's been as my appetite h...

Our 11 yr old (72 lbs) was prescribed Augmentin for suspected bacterial infection. He developed some of the "rare side effects" which have finally subsided except for the dizziness upon standing/walking. Last dose taken more then 48 hrs ago and still feeling dizzy. Any idea when it will resolve? We and pediatrician are assuming the dizziness is a side effect and not part of the virus/infection. ## Hello, Hollyrock! How is he doing? Side effects to the antibiotic may linger for a week or so, but if the dizziness is severe and making him miserable, please return to the doctor. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hello. I was issued Augmentin for a sinus infection. Dosage was supposed to be 10 days, I took it for six. I was in a wedding in Las Vegas and felt better, and yes,...

I got bronchitis a bit over a month ago. I was given one antibiotic that I cannot remember because I was only on it for three days. In those three days all of my symptoms increased to the tenth power. My problem now that I am done with the augmentin by two days I have been dealing with mood instability. I am either angry or sad these last six days. Could it be from the augmentin? Nothing else has changed in my life so I have no reason for this attitude. ## Hello, Lilly! How are you feeling? Sorry about the problems that you're having. It's difficult to say for sure, but yes, it could be due to the antibiotic. You wouldn't be the first person to experience unusual side effects from one recently. I'm not sure if it's due to overexposure in modern times or something els...

How long after taking Augmentin is it in your system for? I'm taking it for a breast infection... ## It may linger for a few weeks, as it slowly tapers out and is expelled, however, this is only referring to the side effects, it's half-life is much shorter, according to NIH records. They list its typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, nausea, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. Has the infection improved?

I have 2 teeth that are ready to come out; my front tooth and upper last tooth. My question is, is it too late or should I wait till they fall out before I take these pills (Augmentin)? ## Hello, Tony! How old are you? If you're an adult, your teeth should not be falling out. And regardless, this medication is an antibiotic that only helps treat bacterial infections and you should only take it, if your doctor has instructed you to do so. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea.

I've had nausea, dizziness, and heartburn for 3 days now after taken Augmentin and drinking several beers this past Saturday evening. How long should I expect these symptoms to last? ## Hello, Chappy! How are you? Those can be normal side effects of this antibiotic, though alcohol can worsen them, so they may continue for the full duration of treatment with it. If your symptoms are severe, or worsen, you should consult your doctor. Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include diarrhea, headache and non-allergic skin rash. Is there anything else I can help with?

Does the antibiotics, two times a day means it have to be taken strictly 12hours apart? will taking the medicine at 8 or 10 hours apart be okay? ## No, the time does not have to be exactly precise, but you should try to keep them as close to the 12 hours apart, as possible. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Recently, I have experienced sore in my ear. Not sure if it is swollening or not. I took my first and only pill of Augmentin 875 after dinner last night. I got dizzy shortly thereafter. The dizziness subsided after roughly 6 hours, only to be replaced with anxiety, restlessness, and twitching in my legs. My OCD is flaring. It's 2:30 AM, about 8 1/2 hours since I took the pill. How much longer will these symptoms last??? I can't even quiet my mind or settle my legs long enough to attempt sleep! Rhita ## Hello, Rhita! How are you doing? That is very unusual, especially after taking just one tablet. I think the best thing to do would be to contact your doctor about taking a different antibiotic, this one obviously doesn't agree with you. The normal side effects should be things like nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything el...

My blood panel was all good except my platelets were low - 99. I'm on a 3rd round of augmentin clavanate for cat bite and then sinusitis. Would the medicine cause this? Last time it was 196. ## Hello, Peaches! How are you? It may just be due to the infection, IE: your sinusitis. Your doctor should recheck, once it has cleared up to see if the situation corrects itself. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have taken 2 augmentin 875-125 pills 12 hours apart. Is it safe for me to start azithromycin after 12 hours have lapsed since the last augmentin? ## Hello, Vern! How are you? Has your doctor instructed you to switch from one to the other? There aren't any problems with doing so, since they are both antibiotics. If you were taking them together, the Azithromycin could reduce the efficacy of the Amoxicillin. The FDA classifies these medications as antibiotics and typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you....everything is fine

I finished 10 days worth of amox-clav 875 and the last day I developed dark urine, a whole body itch, nausea and loss of appetite. This has lasted for 4 days now and is worsening. The pharmacist said to take benedryl, but how dangerous and how common are these side effects? Also, how long will they last? It's very worrisome. This is a dangerous drug! ## Did you also experience diarrhea, while you were taking it? Everything except the body itch, sounds like it could be due to dehydration, which frequently happens when antibiotics cause diarrhea and people don't up their fluid intake to accommodate for the loss. You can read more Augmentin side effects here. The itching could be related to dehydration, as well, but it's more difficult to pinpoint, because it could also be rela...

My wife daugher had these pill so took 2 for my cold around 10 last night now I'm shaking , little diarrhea, nausea what should I do cold shake ## HI, Don! How are you feeling now? It is never advisable to take a medication that hasn't been prescribed for you. This is an antibiotic that's used to treat various types of bacterial infections, but it will not do anything to treat a cold, since that is caused by a virus. And the symptoms you experienced can be normal side effects of this medication, but you should consult your doctor for your own safety. Learn more Augmentin details here. My daughter has just been prescribed 8ml of clindamycin palmitate 3 times a day for 7 days. She has been fighting ear infections, sinus infections and upper respiratory infections for the past 4 months. She has been on amoxicillin, Augmentin, septra and cefdinir and neither of these have worked. I took her to an ENT last week and recommended we remove her tonsils and adenoids and have ear tubes put in. She is scheduled for 3/11 however she is still running a fever off and on and has a slight cough so that is why he gave her clindamycin. I'm just worried because of the side effects of this antibiotic. I know it's a broad spectrum med so it has a higher possibility of c. Diff....
