I started taking augmentin 875 4 days ago and I have gained 7 lbs. I'm hoping this is fluid retention. I am a personal trainer, I eat very well and exercise 5 times a week. If anyone has had the same symptoms please let me know. This doesn't seem normal. ## No, it isn't a normal side effect of this antibiotic and it is highly unlikely that most medications could cause anyone to gain that much weight in just a few days. Learn more Augmentin details here. And if it is fluid retention that you've gained that fast, it could be very dangerous and you need to consult someone to have it checked. Such rapid edema could lead to congestive heart failure. Have you had any other symptoms? ## Thank you for the reply. No honestly I haven't had any other symptoms other then being t...

I was on 1g Augmentin a day for over ten years. Now they say that was too long and that I have Crohns. Could my symptoms come from too much Augmentin for too long? What can I do? Gastroenterologist stopped the prescription but has no ideas other than treating it as Crohns. I'm not getting better after two years of Pentasa for Crohns. ## Hello, Calvin! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems you're having. Crohn's isn't known to be caused by medications, so it's doubtful that the Augmentin would have caused it and not everyone responds to the available medications, such as Pentasa. The FDA lists the typical side effects of Pentasa as possibly including diarrhea, gas, nausea and back pain. So, it could be helping and just causing side effects that are similar to ...

I took one dose of this drug for a cat bite. I took it with food as prescribed. During the night I had extreme stomach pain so bad I thought I was going to have to go the er. Then I had diarrhea with blood. I was so scared. I called my physician in the am to tell her what happened but by that time it had cleared up. She had one other patient this happened to after one dose. Has anyone else had this happen?pxhxu ## Interestingly enough, "mild diarrhea, gas, & stomach pain" has been listed as a less serious side effect of Augmentin. I have been prescribed augmentin to treat an infection. It seems to be working well as the symptoms of the infection have subsided, however it is causing severe diarrhea. Will this continue for the whole course and should I go back to my doctor and request a different antibiotic? ## Augmentin contains Amoxicillin and Clavulanic Acid and diarrhea is a normal side effect of it and almost all antibiotics. There is really no way to say whether or not it will continue for the whole course of treatment, medications can affect everyone differently and some people do experience the whole time and some don't. You may also experience nausea, dizziness and a non-allergic skin rash. Learn more: And since it is a common side effect of most antibiotics, switching isn't very likely to help. Ar...

Last year I suffered a major toxicity to Tylenol and cannot take that drug. Last week I was prescribed augmentin 825. After six days on it, I am having so many symptoms that are similar to Tylenol toxicity. Are there any-active or nonmedicinal-ingredients common to both drugs? ## Hi Curious! If you are having the same symptoms as you did with the Tylenol, you really need to call your doctor right away. ## P.s. Augmentin is used to treat bacterial infections and I couldn't find that it contains Tylenol. Are you taking it with food? I would still call the doctor. ## @Curious, According to the US National Library of Medicine, liver toxicity (although infrequent), can occur in individuals taking Augmentin.
