I recently received a bottle of Atorvastatin from my pharmacy and it wreaks of the smell of alcohol. I thought it might be the medicine bottle so I put them in a different bottle and they still smell awful. I can also taste the alcohol. I take other meds and I do not taste or smell that anywhere else. I brought it back to the pharmacy and the pharmacist said he couldn't smell anything. I have since had others smell the medicine and they also smell that strong odor of alcohol. Either the pharmacist was lying to me or he had no sense of smell. I would say at least 20 people here at my home have smelled my atorvastatin and they all say they smell alcohol like the kind used for cleansing the skin before a shot. This batch was from Sandoz. 80mg Date filled 11/22/14 I cut them in half to ...

I cannot swallow pills. The instructions for taking Atorvastatin says do not crush or chew. Should I continue to take this way? ## @flatball, From what I could gather, Atorvastatin only comes in tablet form, whereas you may just have to find a way to adhere to those instructions unless your doctor suggests otherwise. Another thought is to ask your doctor if dissolving the tablets in water would be an option as well? And lastly, if none of the above is suitable for your needs, then perhaps it would be best to find another alternative to Atorvastatin that comes in different dosage forms and without restrictions as to how it can be administered. A few medication names that might be worth considering in the same drug class of statins are: Simvastatin, Rosuvastatin, and Pravastatin - however...

New cardiologist has now reduced drugs to Lipitor, Norvasc and Ecotrin. 56 YO Male, taking this after a stint. I also take Atenolol, 100mg daily, Losartan 100mg 2x daily and Clopidogrel 75mg daily. Since the stint and the new meds, I am constantly dizzy. I do not believe the stint has anything to do with it, since it saved my life. I have read blogs where people feel uncomfortable with this "metal thing" in their body. I have no such feelings, I am eternally grateful for the "metal thing" and the miracle surgeons that put it there and saved my life. But back to my dizziness. Any suggestions?? ## It's difficult to say, because all of the medications you're taking have the potential to cause dizziness and it's possible that it's compounded due to that fact. The blood pressure/cardiac medications, Atenolol and Losartan also have...

I have celiac disease and want to know if Atorvastatin is gluten free. Thanks ## The composition of inactive ingredients can really depend upon each manufacturer of Atorvastatin. According to today's NY Times, Lipitor generic by manufacturer Ranbaxy was recalled in November because of possible glass particles. Recall applied only to pharmacies, and consumers who already had the contaminated pills were advised to continue taking them unless a doctor advised against it. Who was supposed to advise the consumer/patient? How was your doctor to know of the contaminated pills? I am on my last 90 day supply of Atorvastatin manufacturer Ranbaxy. I recently received my new supply of Atorvastatin from a different manufacturer Sandoz. Why? Is it conected to the recall and/or the contamination? Is this a withdrawel effect? Thanks. ## Hello, Louise! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. It would be best to consult your doctor. When you stop such a medication cold turkey, there is a risk of developing blockages or clots, which could be causing the problem. It's best to have this checked out for your safety. I currently take atorvastatin for my cholesterol. Is it safe to start taking Turmeric for the inflammation of my arthritis? Is atorvastatin a blood thinner? ## No it is not a blood thinner, it is used solely to help lower cholesterol levels, although some recent studies have shown that elevated cholesterol levels are not as dangerous as we think, but many disagree, thus the jury is still out on that, so to speak. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. As to taking it with Turmeric, I haven't been able to find any studies on that, but since it is used in many foods, I'd think the FDA would warn you if there was a problem. However, it is always best to double check with your doctor to be sure. It is also be...
