Ihave been taking atorvastatain 10 mg since 05/2016 I have sever liquid stools and some I do not make it to the bathroom and I sure you now what happens. is this a side effct and what are the ither side effects. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache and joint/muscle aches. I am 78 year old male from India. I am diabetic but under control and mild bp under control. My cholestrol level is 113, Tryglycerides 166, HDL 46, LDL 32 and VLDL 35 as on 16th dec 2020. Previously as on 15/9/2019 cholestrol is 111, tryglycerides 134, HDL 43, LDL 32 and VLDL 35. I have been taking Atorvostatin 10 mg since many years. But when this tryglycerides level is 166 from 134 recently , I feel i should raise the dosage and would like to take 20 mg atorvostatin. Since I am diabetic, i think i am not supposed to stop atorvostatin. Can i increase the dosage from 10 mg to 20 mg? Is there any harm in doing so? I am on 80 mg of Atorvastatin. Can I safely start cutting my doses to 40 for a week or two, then half the 40 for a week or two, then half the 20, then get off without the extreme side effects? ## Hi Terry, Generally, it's best to discuss tapering protocols with your prescribing doctor in order to mitigate possible risk factors (e.g. rebound effects or withdrawal symptoms). However, as a last resort, and because only you know your body and how it responds to Atorvastatin, my opinion is that your current approach certainly seems feasible. Since Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, simply changing your diet (staying away from foods that raise those numbers) should theoretically yield noticeable results in and of itself. I have always had normal cholesterol but a year ago was diagnosed with a 40 percent blockage of carotid artery. I started taking atorvastatin 20 mg and this past March my new doc raised it to 40 mg. A month ago I started getting joint pain all over. My internist ran blood tests and I was negative for Lyme and RA. However, blood tests showed some indication I have inflammation possibly related to some form of arthritis. I will be seeing a rheumatologist very soon. I am 41 years old. My triglycerides 225 (188), Cholestrol174 (159) LDL-114(110) and HDL-20(20R). Note with in the brackets are test dated 10-08-2010. I had undergone angioplasty in 2009 and since then I am having Clopitab A 75 after lunch + Losar H in the morning and evening + Starpress XL 25 in the morning + Atorvastatin 5 mg at night. Is there any side effects since I have been taking them for almost 8 years? Pls advise.
