Is it ok to break 80 mg tablets in half to acheive 40mg dose? ## Of course it is! You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way. tablets smell like alcohol

was switched to Atorvastatin 80mg tab MFG:Sandoz. when you open bottle, pills smell like they were soaked in alcohol. ## Hi flor, From what I could gather, there are actually many reports filed about the strong smell and taste of this medication. Enough to warrant a recall back in 2010: "From August 2010 through December 2010, Pfizer recalled specific bottles of LIPITOR (atorvastatin calcium) tablets (40 mg only) due to a small number of reports of an uncharacteristic odor related to the bottles in which LIPITOR is packaged.
