I was placed on Liptor 40 mg with refills for last 3 months last doctor visit 2 weeks ago was told to continue and come back for blood tests in December. When I went to get refill this month was told by pharmacy they had to wait for doctor approval to refill. I called doctor office and got refill to last until my next visit. My question is wouldn’t the doctor have told me that there’s a change in how he is prescribing medication to insure that I have enough between appointments. ## This is a followup to my post. Apparently because of the holiday (Veterans), my prescription was not processed until 4 days after I called the doctor's office for refill. He didn't change prescription but made it a 90 day prescription with refills rather than a monthly refill. Again, I wou...

If a person is having LDL level of 112, does he need to take aztor to reduce the chlostrol ## For healthy individuals the desirable LDL level is less than 100, for those considered at high risk of cardiac problems, the ideal level is considered 70 or less, so yes, the doctor will normally want anyone with a level over 100 to use a medication and dietary options to lower it. Astor contains the active ingredient Atorvastatin, these medications are very commonly used to help lower cholesterol. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and joint/muscle aches. Learn more: Are there any questions or comments?

to reduce cholesterol level which are the best medicin with less side effect instead of above tablet 5 mg ## There is really no way to say which one would be better for any single person, because everyone can react to a medication differently. The Statin drug class all carry the risks of the same side effects and the only thing you can really do is try them and see how they affect you. Have you discussed this with your doctor? ## i need to redoce triglyciride without medication. im 40 and my TG is 250mg/dl.

I am on 80 mg of Atorvastatin. Can I safely start cutting my doses to 40 for a week or two, then half the 40 for a week or two, then half the 20, then get off without the extreme side effects? ## Hi Terry, Generally, it's best to discuss tapering protocols with your prescribing doctor in order to mitigate possible risk factors (e.g. rebound effects or withdrawal symptoms). However, as a last resort, and because only you know your body and how it responds to Atorvastatin, my opinion is that your current approach certainly seems feasible. Since Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, simply changing your diet (staying away from foods that raise those numbers) should theoretically yield noticeable results in and of itself. Unfortunately no one can accura...

I have always had normal cholesterol but a year ago was diagnosed with a 40 percent blockage of carotid artery. I started taking atorvastatin 20 mg and this past March my new doc raised it to 40 mg. A month ago I started getting joint pain all over. My internist ran blood tests and I was negative for Lyme and RA. However, blood tests showed some indication I have inflammation possibly related to some form of arthritis. I will be seeing a rheumatologist very soon. Could atorvastatin be the cause? ## Hello, Isabel! How are you? I'm sorry that you're in pain. And yes, these statin medications are very well known for causing joint and muscle pain as a side effect. In some cases, it's been so severe that the people had to stop taking the medication. I have been taking this pill (for heart attack recovery) since last fall. I already was being treated for vertigo and it seemed to make the vertigo worse plus made me be in a "fog" most of the time. Do I need to change to another generic for Protonix ? ## Hello, John! How are you? This is not a medication used to treat a heart condition of any type. This is a proton pump inhibitor that helps reduce the amount of acid produced by the stomach to treat or prevent conditions such as heartburn, GERD, ulcers and gastritis. It can cause some slight dizziness as a side effect, but it really should't worsen vertigo or cause you to seem to be in a fog. Do you take any other medications? ## Thanks for your reply. Please tell me should I take now tg tor only to control my lipid profile. ## What has your doctor advised? TG-Tor-F contains Atorvastatin and Fenofibrate, it is used to help lower cholesterol levels. You should discuss it with your doctor, because your HDL is still a little low, which puts you at risk for heart disease, so they may want you to continue the medication.

Is it ok to break 80 mg tablets in half to acheive 40mg dose? ## Of course it is! You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way.
