My doctor prescribed Atorva 40 mg tablets first for 1 month when my cholesterol was 388 MG/DL. When cholestorol, hdl & ldl levels became normal, he prescribed for 3 moths; again now after lipid test which is normal he has prescribed the same dose for 3 more months. Is it needed? I was placed on Liptor 40 mg with refills for last 3 months last doctor visit 2 weeks ago was told to continue and come back for blood tests in December. When I went to get refill this month was told by pharmacy they had to wait for doctor approval to refill. I called doctor office and got refill to last until my next visit. My question is wouldn’t the doctor have told me that there’s a change in how he is prescribing medication to insure that I have enough between appointments. ## This is a followup to my post. The Statin drug class all carry the risks of the same side effects and the only thing you can really do is try them and see how they affect you. I am on 80 mg of Atorvastatin. Can I safely start cutting my doses to 40 for a week or two, then half the 40 for a week or two, then half the 20, then get off without the extreme side effects? ## Hi Terry, Generally, it's best to discuss tapering protocols with your prescribing doctor in order to mitigate possible risk factors (e.g. rebound effects or withdrawal symptoms). However, as a last resort, and because only you know your body and how it responds to Atorvastatin, my opinion is that your current approach certainly seems feasible. Since Atorvastatin is used to treat high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, simply changing your diet (staying away from foods that raise those numbers) should theoretically yield noticeable results in and of itself. I have always had normal cholesterol but a year ago was diagnosed with a 40 percent blockage of carotid artery. I started taking atorvastatin 20 mg and this past March my new doc raised it to 40 mg. A month ago I started getting joint pain all over. My internist ran blood tests and I was negative for Lyme and RA. However, blood tests showed some indication I have inflammation possibly related to some form of arthritis. I will be seeing a rheumatologist very soon. My Mom is 70 years old and she is Diabetic and Hypertensive. She is on Diapride-2, Arbitel H and Atorvastatin av 75 mg along with PAN 40 mg. Even after taking PAN 40 before breakfast every day she doesn't feel relieved of gastritis. Is there any other alternative for PAN 40 in this case?

I have taken tg torF for about 40 days and my lipid profile shows colestrol 136, trygleseride 139 HDL 42, LDL 66. what is color of tablet ## All of the Aspavor (atorvastatin) tablets I've seen from 10mg all the way to 40mg dosages are either white or yellow in color; mostly white though. You would be far better and cheaper if you were to buy a good generic atorvastatin though, as Lipitor is exceedingly overpriced. 80mg is a HUGE dosage of atorvastatin, and is equivalent in potency to almost 160mg Simvastatin, which many consider the superior statin. Have you recently suffered a stroke or myocardial infarction? ## It is okay to do so, as long as the medication is not time released, and your doctor approves. My cardiologist often prescribes some of my medications in a higher dosage, so I can cut them in half, since it is often cheaper that way.
