Hi. I was given a prescription for cephalexin 500mg for 3x a day after having two teeth extracted. The second day of the dose my throat felt tight and also as if there was a lump or something stuck in my throat as well as a difficulty swallowing food. I stopped taking the cephalexin and the next day the feeling went away. My dentist prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg instead. My questions are, were my symptoms with the cephalexin a type of anaphylactic shock and could I be allergic to cephalexin? My second question is, is amoxicillin similar to cephalexin and could it cause a similar reaction? I have been prescribed teva 3109, which is Amoxicillin 500mg (for a tooth infection) & I can't swallow the pills. I wanted to know if it was possible to just take the powder that is inside the capsule? Will it still fight off the infection? ## It will still fight the infection. I can't swallow pills either. Hi I was prescribed 500mg tablets of Amoxicillin and told to take 4 tablets twice a day together with a PPI and one other antibiotic of 250mg twice a day. The dose of amoxicillin seems quite high? I am a type 2 Diabetic patient since 30 years. I was recently dignosed H. Pylori positive and was advised to take Tab Pantocid 40 mg (bd) + Tab Amoxicillin 1000mg (bd) + Tab Clabid 500mg (bd) for fourteen days.
