I have just stated using methotrexate injections for RA after using tablets which gave me mouth ulcers and nausea. Have also used Arava and other RA meds without success . I am also on occasional predisalone as I gain too much weight and am a type 1 diabetic and blood sugars go up considerably. I also take 300mg of plaquenil each day for my arthritis. I would like to know how others are coping with the methotrexate, results and side effects??? ## We are all different, so Methotrexate works great for some people, but not for all, thus, the only way to see if it will help you is by actually trying it according to your doctor's instructions. The FDA warns that it may cause side effects, such as dizziness, headache, chills/fever, hair loss, and light sensitivity. Ref: Methotrexate Infor...

Why is the availability of leflunomide nonexistant? No pharmacy in my area (southern Nevada) has been able to supply it to me since February 2011. ## What happened to leflunomide? It is not available anywhere. ## When I contacted the manufacturer of both Arava and Leflunomide I was told that the patent on Arava had expired. If some other company picks up the formula Leflunomide will be manufactured again otherwise only Arava will be available. Thus the cost for a 90 day supply goes from around 200 dollars to around 1600, Pretty tough when one is in the donut hole but makes a little too much to qualify for payment assistance. Is there a difference between 1 pill every 8 hours and 1 pill 3 times a day? 3 times a day is 8 hours yet I've seen it written both ways. ## Hello, Bosco! How are you? Yes, there is a difference. As is stated, one is meant to be taken precisely every 8 hours, but the other is just 3 times a day. That three times a day doesn't necessarily mean it has to be 8 hours apart, for instance, the doctor may just mean for someone to take it with breakfast, lunch and dinner, or in the morning when waking, at lunchtime and then at bedtime. Some medications need to be taken on a precise schedule to keep the level of them in your body consistent for them to work best, but with some medications, it doesn't matter. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Starting a new med, Arava for RA....

I have severe rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and carpal tunnel in both wrists. That's just the tip of the iceberg. Well I have been seeing the same Dr for the last 8 yrs and because people can't follow directions, or abuse their medication is why I am now looking for a new LEGITIMATE Dr. His practice made a decision to no longer write pain medication, bc they do not have the resources or time to monitor it properly. He wrote me a excellent referral letter, saying I follow all guidelines, and am a good patient. My rheumatologist believes in a different pain medication than I am prescribed, and so he said he would write me rxs for a new medication, but if it ain't broke don't fix it. I have tried everything under the sun, and I'm also taking Arava, ibuprofen, and Pla
