I am taking 500mg of Cephalexin for Mastitis. One doc said 4x a day for a week. Pharmacist said 2x a day for 2 weeks. Does it matter? Due to nausea I would rather take 2x a day for a longer period. Thanks! ## I would suggest double checking with your doctor to be sure which is appropriate. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Usually, it is taken 4 times a day for a week. How are you feeling? Has there been any change? ## Feeling better. Will take more often now, talked with doc office today. Thanks!

My wife was prescribed Cephalexin for a stye and I was wondering since it is an antibiotic, whether it is okay for her to be out in the sun? I could not find anything on the included drug label insert specifically mentioning sun exposure risks, but I thought I would check seeing as how other antibiotics are known to increase sensitivity to sunlight. Any feedback appreciated. The weather's been real nice and we've been wanting to spend time outdoors and at swimming pools. ## Cephalexin should not cause an increased sensitivity to sunlight (there is no mention of a concern or interaction from the NIH or Medline Plus). There are other antibiotics which are known to increase photosensitivity, and those are: doxycycline, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin, ofloxacin, trimethop...

I have a serious vaginal itch and when I scratch it I get sores. I also have vaginal discharge. Please, can I use cephalexin to treat it? If not, what can I use? ## Hello, Baby! How are you? Cephalexin is an antibiotic, so it can be used to treat some STIs, if your doctor approves. However, if you've not seen your doctor, then it would be best to do so, to get a proper diagnosis, so they can prescribe the correct antibiotic. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. What color is the discharge? Since you're also itching, you could have a yeast infection and, if so, an antibiotic may make it worse. You'd need to take an antifungal medication to treat it.

What should the dosage of this med be. Adult female approx 130.lbs. ## The usual Adult dose for an Upper Respiratory Tract Infection is 250 to 500 mg orally every 6 hours for 7 to 10 days. Anatomically speaking, the upper respiratory tract does include the sinuses, so it would be safe to assume that this would be the correct dose for this type of infection. You can read more about this medication here: Is there anything else I can help you with? ## Hi! Thanks for posting! What has your doctor advised? The usual dosage for something such as a sinus infection is 500mgs every 12 hours, but it can vary depending on the severity of the infection, so you should follow your doctor's instructions. ## Should your boyfriend be treated if I am taking Cephalexin? ## Should Keflex be taken away ...

I have a abcess tooth wanted to know if keflex 500 mg will take the infection out. ## Hi Jackie, From what I could gather, Keflex (cephalexin) can in fact be used to treat a tooth infection. Apparently the usual adult dose for bacterial infections is listed as being anywhere from 250 to 500mgs every 6 hours; to be taken for up to 1-3 weeks, depending on the severity of the infection. However, these exact figures are generally something your doctor/dentist would determine upon a closer examination. I hope this helps answer your question! ## Does cephalexin help with sinus infection ## I have had a bad tooth infection with pain for some time now..and have been treating it with OTC pain meds.. In the past I used Amoxicillin..it helped..but I heard that Cephalexin can be used for this also....

Are cephalexin green and red capsules the same? ## The same as what, exactly? There is a green and red Cephalexin capsule that has the marking SQUIBB 181 on it and it contains 250mgs of Cephalexin. So, if you are asking about the dosage, then no, because it only contains half the dosage of the 500mg capsules. Cephalexin is an antibiotic and may cause side effects, such as: nausea, drowsiness, skin rash and diarrhea. ## Pill identity please. Could this be cephalexin 250 mg... It's a bright pink oval tablet with AT250 on one side and >> on the flip side. ## Diego - did you start another thread about this? Regardless, what you are describing appears to be Azithromycin 250 mg manufactured in Canada. This is also an antibiotic, but different than Cephalexin.

IS IT OK TO TAKE CEPHALEXIN 500antibiotic for swollen glands ## Hello, AK! How are you? Has your doctor instructed you to take it? In some cases, swollen glands can be caused by some type of systemic infection that your body is fighting, so an antibiotic may be appropriate. However, if they're swollen due to a virus, such as the cold or flu, then an antibiotic will not help. It will also not help, if they are swollen due to allergies. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. ## I have 5 or 6 swollen glands under my armpits they are under the skin and very sore to touch. I have a full prescription of cephalexin can it treat these symptoms?

Im allergic to penicillen and was given cephalexin, can I take them or will it kill me like penicillin will?? ## Hi Franny, Based on my research, Penicillin and Cephalexin are classified as two different types of antibiotics (cephalosporin antibiotics and penicillin antibiotics). However, more information I'm finding states that there is some clinical and laboratory evidence of partial cross-allergenicity of the penicillins and the cephalosporins. Apparently there have been patients who reported severe reactions to both medications. So I don't think any exceptions should be made for Cephalexin in this regard either (at least to play it safe). You can learn more about this drug on the page for Cephalexin Details Was your doctor aware of this before prescribing you the medication?...

Will Cefalexina help this? she is seven months old and weights about 30 pounds ## Hello, Al! How is she doing? No, Cephalexin is an antibiotic that only treats bacterial infections, but ringworm is a fungal infection, so it will have no effect on it. Have you consulted your veterinarian? I have infection in my mouth due to a hole in my teeth can I take this meds ## Hello, Keshia! How are you? The FDA classifies Cephalexin as an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections, so you can take it, as long as your doctor or dentist have said it's appropriate. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, trying to diagnose and treat it on your own isn't a good idea, you may not have enough of the antibiotic to fully eradicate the infection, it might be the wrong one and you'll still need to tooth repaired, or the infection will keep returning. Could i give my one and a half dog (64pounds)KLX 141 Pill - cephalexin 500 mg - to treat his pneumonia and if so for how many days ## @Xexa, According to colostate.edu, Cephalexin tablets, capsules, or liquid are usually prescribed for dogs to take orally 2-3 times daily. However the exact dosage and duration of treatment is best determined by a licensed vet who can evaluate the dog in person. Upon doing so, the vet can also decide if Cephalexin is appropriate over other potential antibiotics/treatment options (that may be safer in so far as possible side effects). Cephalexin itself is a very powerful drug (even for humans), so I just think it's wise to play it safe and seek additional feedback from a vet before following through with treatment on your own accord. Hope this helps!

My mother in law gave meths told me it would help with bladder infection is it ok to take this and tan in the tanning bed also does it contain penicillin ## Although it doesn't appear to be listed as a side effect on most webpages, photosensitivity is actually quite common in patients taking Lupin 500 (Cephalexin 500mg). Statistics show that 33% of males and 66% of females experience this side effect when taking Cephalexin. Ref: ehealthme.com/ds/cephalexin/photosensitivity+reaction That said, it's difficult to say whether or not it's safe for you to go tanning for any significant period of time. I would probably suggest playing it safe, but also would encourage you to listen to your body if you do decide to continue tanning. Maybe just do a few minutes at a time so you can m...

Dalacin for toothinfection Dolan 30 for pain and completing cephalexan for infectio related to bladder sling. Can I take all 3 ## Hello, Bev! How are you? The antibiotics can be taken together and multiple antibiotics are frequently prescribed together to treat severe infections. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, the only medication I can find under the name Dolan is listed as containing Ibuprofen, so there is no 30mg dosage of it. Can you please double check the name and spelling, then post back?
