I lost a piece of paper that said what I'm allergic to, I think it's an antibiotic that starts with an M. It it gives me a rash, my back starts to feel itchy, I had to take it for a blood infection. ## Hi igor, Antibiotics starting with "M" include: Meropenem, Mezlocillin, Meticillin, Moxifloxacin, Mafenide, and Minocycline. Do any of these names ring a bell? I'm sure there may be others out there, but this is what I could gather at the moment. I hope it helps! ...

Used to treat MRSA ## To treat MRSA, Vancomycin or other antibiotics in the same class are used. Other options may include: Flucloxacillin, Erythromycin and Ciprofloxacin. I am not, however, finding any that start with an R. but it is possible that some doctors may use Rocephin, the active ingredient in Ceftriaxone, though it is not listed as being used to treat MRSA. Do you have any other information, such as antibiotic class or anything on the particular one or ones you are seeking information on? ## After taking a round of Cipro and Flagel, I have an imbalance of flora that is causing me diahrrea and stomach pain. do antibiotics expire

I have bactrim that expired 4 months ago is it safe to take ## Hello, Jean! How are you? Yes, all medications start to lose efficacy once past their expiration date and may not work as well as they did, when new. The issue this creates with antibiotics, such as Bactrim, is that it may no longer properly eradicate the bacteria, which could cause it to become drug resistant. Learn more Bactrim details here. It would really be best to see your doctor for a new prescription, if you suspect that you have an infection. Is there anything else I can help with? ...

tendons curling up and antibiotics
1 Reply RSS
I have been prescribed antibiotics frequently by doctors. I frequently have infections related to bacterial infections and have noticed something strange slowly occurring. It started in my right leg then the left knee. I can't straighten either leg. Tingling and then it felt like a ball under my skin. My hands are showing hard clumps. Two PCPs have told me it is my tendons. Pain numbness the curling up of tendons are the symptoms. Is this from the heavy use of antibiotics? ## Hello, Connie! How are you doing? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. Usually, what some antibiotics cause as a side effect are tendon ruptures. What did your doctors say have caused your issue? What treatment options have they offered? ...

bacterial sinus infection AFTER starting antibiotics for another reason
3 Replies RSS
i was recently prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for an infected burn. on the second day, i woke up with a really sore throat. by night, i had a fever, and the next morning, i had a sinus infection--which i used to get chronically from about 11 years ago, up until 4 years ago, in which time ive only had one. a day later i had a productive cough, semi bad but nowhere near as bad as the bronchitus the sinus infections would, after months, eventually turn into. those infectionswere clearly bacterial as whenever I did end up taking antibiotics, they always ended within a few days. I tried to ride them through to defer antibiotic resistance and such, and i cant rememeber if i ever did, because they WOULDNT go away. regardless, i went back to the dr this time after gettin... ...

does amoxicillin and clavulanate nullify the use of opiates, killing infections in the body being derived from penicillan, does augmentin xr (amoxicillin and clavulanate) stop or cancel out the effects of opiates also taken in combination? ## No, as a matter of fact antibiotics and narcotic opiate analgesics are often prescribed together, since the swelling from infections frequently causes intense pain, until the antibiotics start knocking out the infection. advise regarding the possible antibiotics that have NO BLOOD THINNER QUALITIES
1 Reply RSS
I had an open sore on my left big toe, and I went swimming in a personal friends lagoon on their resort. A staff infection got into the sore and quickly spread throughout my left leg. The leg swelled to three times it's normal size, and I spent three weeks in a hospital, where they bombarded it with antibiotics. That procedure was working, but the antibiotics had trace effects of blood thinner qualities. I am a heart patient that has had nine heart procedures, including a quadruple bypass. I cannot take ANY TYPE OF BLOOD THINNER WITHOUT HEMORAGING. The antibiotics with thinners in them caught up with me, and I spent several trips to the hospital, severely hemoraging from the nose and mouth. I had to stop the antibiotics, and now the infection is starting to spread in my leg again. M... ...

my cousin had severe gum pain and she was given both aceclofenac paracentamol tablets along with antibiotics and her pain did not subside
1 Reply RSS
The pain did not come down, only increased. I think it was because antibiotic tabs were given to the patient along with ace clofenac and para centamol tablets. ## No, it isn't likely that the antibiotic caused the pain to increase, that's not how they work and generally after taking them for 3 days, she should start to see improvement. However, she may have still experienced some slight worsening of the infection, which could have caused increased pain. Another possibility is that it was due to the fact that both the Aceclofenac and the Paracetamol can cause some blood thinning, which could have increased blood flow to the area, this may have increased the sensitivity and swelling, so the pain increased. These also aren't very strong pain relievers, so may not have been very... ...

Started period before taking white pill
3 Replies RSS
I'm on an antibiotic to get rid of my UTI. I don't start my white pill until tomorrow but I'm bleeding now. I've been on sprintec for almost 4 months now and my period usually happens the sencind it third day if the white pills. Is something wrong? And should I take my blue pill today? ## Hello, Grace! How are you? Some antibiotics lower the efficacy of oral contraceptives by reducing the amount of estrogen that you absorb. Thus, your body is reacting just like it would during your period week and don't take any hormones. You should continue taking them all, just as you normally do and use a backup method of protection, until you've finished your course of antibiotics and have taken 7 active tablets in a row after finishing them, which means no unprotected interc... ...

does amoxicillin go bad with age?
104 Replies RSS
I bought 100 amoxicillin caps about 3 years ago and stored them in a dark place, and I was curious if they would still be good to take. ## does amoxicillin expire ## don't use it. amoxicillin goes bad a year from when you bought it. ## Actually, no, it does not go bad, it just loses efficacy, so it is not as strong or as potent as when you first bought, starting from about 18 months past the manufacture date. You should never self-diagnose or self-treat with antibiotics anyway, there are so many other conditions that will not respond to them, so they have no effect, and you of course run the risk of developing an antibiotic resistant strain of something with overuse, so please see your doctor. ## first of all why do you just have the drug sitting around? did you take it and not finis... ...

Allergy type symptoms with Butrans
1 Reply RSS
I started Butrans 10 on 4/30. Had amazing relief. I felt better than I had in years. I caught a cold around April 20th. Went straight to my chest. My Dr thought I had walking pneumonia and started me on a course of steroids and antibiotics. 10 days later, no improvement, chest xray clear but wheezing and heavy with breathing. Dr. gave another round of steroids and antibiotics. This past weekend, I started to feel like a brand new cold came on me. Severe head congestion, terrible cough, the works. I went to urgent care. That Dr. told me it was allergy related. He gave a decadron shot, Z pak, started me on Zyrtec, albuterol inhaler. Today is the first day I have started to feel a little better. My question is this, could this possibly be from the patch? I seems a little coincidental that ... ...
