I currently have an IUD, Mirena, I was just prescribed, Dicloxacillin. I am wondering what are the side effects for these two mixed medications. Does the Dicloxacillin interfere with the IUD? ## In most cases, the reason that antibiotics alter the efficacy of contraceptives is due to their effect on how fast your body absorbs and processes the oral forms. Basically, they can make them run through your digestive system much faster, so less is absorbed and active in the body, which increases your risk of becoming pregnant. Thus, most aren't known to do that with an IUD, since you aren't swallowing and digesting the hormone, instead its being absorbed right into your uterus. However, for added peace of mind, I'd still suggest using a backup method of contraception, just to be o...

My dr prescribed Purbac Ds 950 mg tabs, but the tab the chemist gave to me does not look like the correct tablet, as there is the word C24 engraved on the tab. Is this the right one or not? ## In my investigation, neither Purbac Adult, Purbac DS or Purbac Paediatric suspension are available in 950mg dosage forms. The manufacturer ("Pharmacare Limited") only lists 40mg/200mg; 80mg/400mg; 160mg/800mg - not to mention, 950mg would only represent one of the two active ingredients in Purbac (Trimethoprim/Sulphamethoxazole). To ensure that you received the appropriate medication, I would encourage you to contact the chemist where you got it from. Was your dosage custom made/tailored by your doctor to meet your own unique set of circumstances? I am also not finding any reliable data on...

An antibacterial is an agent that inhibits bacterial growth or kills bacteria.[1] The term is often used synonymously with the term antibiotic(s). Today, however, with increased knowledge of the causative agents of various infectious diseases, antibiotic(s) has come to denote a broader range of antimicrobial compounds, including anti-fungal and other compounds.[2] The term antibiotic was first used in 1942 by Selman Waksman and his collaborators in journal articles to describe any substance p...

Six days ago I had hip replacement surgery. I was given three bags of antibiotics by IV. How long does it remain in my body before being excreted? ## Hello, Joan! How are you? I hope you're doing well after your surgery and recovering. It depends on which antibiotic you received. Do you happen to know? Please note that large bags of liquid would not be an antibiotic, that would be a separate small bag. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

I have been prescribed this (amox tr-k clv) for an outbreak of boils....I had the same outbreak 3 yrs ago and the doc said (without testing) that it could be MRSA. (My son actually did have MRSA at the same time this was going on). Will this stuff work if in fact it is MRSA? ## Hello, Scott! How are you? Usually, a combination of antibiotics is given for MRSA, a person is usually prescribed 2 of them. Did your doctor culture a boil? That's really the only way to find out if it's MRSA. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea.

I was recently treated for a yeast infection at the ER nd two weeks later I went for a follow up with my Dr , I was told I have a uti however I have bk symptoms. I was prescribed sulfameth/trimethoprim 800/160 , I'm on day 5 nd I've noticed a white milky discharge. Is this normal???? ## "NO SYMPTOMS" ## A white, milky discharge would be more indicative of a yeast infection. You may have had one to begin with, been treated for it and got rid of it, then you may have gotten another one from the antibiotic for the UTI, it's almost a vicious cycle. Have you consulted your doctor again, yet?

I have enough 800/160 Sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim tablets for a course, but they are 2 years beyond their use-by date. Will they still be effective? ## This medication does lose efficacy, once expired, so it would be best to dispose of it and see your doctor for a new prescription, if you have an infection requiring an antibiotic, as directed by the FDA. Its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

YOU TAKE IT FOR ONLY 5 DAYS. YOU START WITH TWO AND THEN TAKE THE REST ## ok ## nothing ## Were you possibly referring to a Z-Pak? It's an antibiotic that is available in a 5 day dosing pack, which contains the active ingredient Azithromycin. Since it is an antibiotic, it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, I am not aware of anything at this time that's called a V-Pack, nor have I found any record of there ever being one. There are more Z-Pak details available here for anyone needing more information.

My doctor diagnosed me with diverticulitis after a ct scan. Why do I take amox-clav 875 and metronidazole simultaneously? Thank you! ## Sometimes multiple antibiotics are given, if the doctor isn't sure of the precise bacteria that is the culprit, by taking more than one, it covers more possibilities. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, stomach pain and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My side effects also included a super metallic taste and a somewhat distorted sense of smell. Both have resolved after finishing course of antibiotic treatment.

how long after beginning to take the medicine will the infection improve?OEMLI ## Hi christy drees, Some antibiotics can take several days to work. If you feel no improvement in your infection, I would suggest contacting your doctor before stopping the antibiotics. The length of time that one should take Lupin (Cephalexin) to notice results is different for every individual as well as every type of infection. Because I do not know what type of infection you're using it for or how severe the infection may be, I can only offer general information. Listed below is the average adult dosage regime: "The adult dosage ranges from 1 to 4 g daily in divided doses. The 333 mg and 750 mg strengths should be administered such that the daily dose is within 1 to 4 grams per day. The usual adu...

How many times a day can i take ip272 i just started it today im in bad pain trying to get rid of it its an infection in my mouth ## You should take it as instructed by your doctor. I understand you are in pain, but all antibiotics can take a few days to begin beating the infection. The general rule is that if it is working, you should not see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking it for a full 72 hours. If not, then you should return to your doctor. Taking more than prescribed will not change this. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?
