I suffered 4 puncture wounds to my middle finger from being bitten by a Pit Bull a couple days ago. Since the pit was going after my beagle puppy and I knew the pit would kill him, I slipped my hand under the pit bull's collar. He pulled me onto my back and bit my hand. I was screaming, but still holding onto his collar My black lab, Lucy has never fought but she is very loyal and protective of me. Prior to this incident, the only thing she attacked because she perceived it as a threat to me, was the weed eater. But she jumped the Pit Bull and wasn't about to give up the fight till she knew I was okay. I was at the bottom of this dog pile and had no idea what kind of injuries Lucy was sustaining. Long story short, my left hand has 4 punctures and is very swollen, purplish in col...

My foot bumped with a sofa corner and got a painful and swelling reaction right away. It's been a week already but the swelling and the pain just don't stop. ## An antibiotic will only help if you have an infection, such as what might occur if your foot was cut or scraped and bacteria got into the wound. An infection would not occur immediately, it would take a few days to set in and cause any swelling or problems. In addition, if you use an antibiotic, when you don't have an infection, you run the risk of developing antibiotic resistant bacteria, which could cause serious medical issues in the future. If it swelled immediately after the injury, it is not likely an infection, but something else. It could be a broken bone or a sprain. Have you visited a doctor, yet, to get it...

What is the recommended daily dosage for Cefixime, Dicloxacillin and Lactic Acid Bacillus tablets? It was prescribed to me by my doctor for an external wound on my face (on the right side of my forehead). ## You should take it as directed by your doctor, because proper dosing may depend on the severity of the infection being treated and the type of bacteria that has caused it. The U.S. FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications? ## Thanks for the response. The medication regimen is over but my face is still swollen with pricking pain on the wound.

I am 65 year old. I am having severe problems with dry cough. It comes once in every year. It lasts for 2 months. Is it OK to take MOX 500 capsules as antibiotic and for how many days. ## Antibiotics will only help with bacterial infections, they will not help with the viruses that cause colds, or flu. The U.S. FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Additionally, taking it when it is not appropriate creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistant bacteria. Are you on any other medications? Have you had your doctor check out your dry cough? ## Mox 500 3times a day was prescribed for a wound by rusted nail. How long I should take this drug

My hand has been cut by a mirror and the doctor told me that this antibiotic would be helpful. I have taken the medicine for 5 days but it didn't work. Kindly tell me which medicine I should take to recover from my pain and a gap of skin in the hand? ## What were you expecting this medication to do? It is an antibiotic that is used to treat, or prevent bacterial infections. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including diarrhea, nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. However, it is not going to help the cut heal any faster than usual. Hello!!! I took this antibiotics for a wound that was stitched of which it opened again basically they didn't stitched me professionally at the hospital,is it possible to stitched it again cz some doctors told me its not possible to do it again. ## Whether or not it is impossible depends on the wound itself, some can be, unless the edges have torn, or they are seriously infected. can you give to pigs for antobiotics for wounds ## Hi Lisa, IP 272 is reportedly identified as Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS (800mg/160mg). From what I could gather, this antibiotic is not FDA-approved for veterinary use. However I have read about several cases of veterinarians still prescribing Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS for cats and dogs... Pigs on the other hand, I have no idea. But what I would recommend doing is disclosing all of your animal's medication history to the veterinarian in order to better determine whether Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is the most appropriate form of treatment. I hope this helps!

Can I use Gelmicin on fresh road rash wounds? It contains a mixture of betametasona, clotrimazol, gentamicina. I fell off a motorcycle and have bad road rash. Gentamicin, an antibiotic for treating and/or preventing bacterial infections. Are you able to translate the instructions on the packaging? I have an open wound It burns. I have been cleaning with peroxide and using Neosporin It's now red around it. Don't know how I got it. Also I have tiny red spots, maybe ant bites or poison ivy. They itch. Because of these I can't sleep. I have a few SMZ/TMP. Can I use them.? ## Hello, Cindy! How are you? Actually, you shouldn't be using peroxide on it, it can actually damage the surrounding healthy tissue and delay or prevent healing. In most cases, when it is used, it's just for the initial cleaning of the wound, but usually, your better off just cleaning it with soap and water. Have you consulted your doctor? You should have this checked out, especially since it's gotten red around it and you have those other tiny spots. This might not be the right antibiotic t...

My dad had a brain infection in his temporal and parietal lobes. After trying to treat it with antibiotics, they finally performed surgery and removed the pus manually. About two months after he was released from the hospital, he began having extremely painful neuropathy in his fingers, legs and feet. His fingertips have been splitting, cracking and bleeding, and his legs and feet have had painful rashes and open wounds. He has tried steroid creams for his legs and feet, which help, but for his hands he has been given Gabapentin, Cymbalta and Lyrica, all which cause strange mental behavior...which I would liken to mildly psychotic. They seem to help his pain, but all make him have "the evil inside," which is what he calls it when he has episodic behavior due to these drugs. Can ...
