I lost a piece of paper that said what I'm allergic to, I think it's an antibiotic that starts with an M. It it gives me a rash, my back starts to feel itchy, I had to take it for a blood infection. ## Hi igor, Antibiotics starting with "M" include: Meropenem, Mezlocillin, Meticillin, Moxifloxacin, Mafenide, and Minocycline. Do any of these names ring a bell? I'm sure there may be others out there, but this is what I could gather at the moment. I hope it helps! ## Metronidazole. Also interacts with propyline glycol, which is in liquid for e-cigarettes.

Doing a lab for highschool about recombinant DNA, learning about taking the insulin gene from human DNA and inserting it into bacteria plasmids to mass-produce insulin. The plasmid had a gene for antibiotic resistance, there were three different types of antibiotics listed and the plasmid we were working with was resistant to one starting with a k, but I can't find it's name. ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? Was it possibly Keflex? It's a name brand for the antibiotic Cephalexin. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allerigc skin rash and diarrhea. ## Yes, thank you so much! That was one of the three.

I am on four a day and still have a further four days to take. ## Hello, Lizzy! How are you? Yes, that can be a normal side effect of taking antibiotics, as reported by the U.S. FDA. What is an antibiotics that start with the letter A ## Hi Patricia, Amoxicillin is the first antibiotic that comes to mind, starting with the letter A. But Ampicillin, Actinonin, Actinomycin, and Azithromycin are just a few other names that I'm aware of as well. Are you trying to recall something that you may have taken in the past for an infection? ## Yes I'm trying to remember what I took. It caused me to break out in a rash from head to toe. I want to make sure I add it to my allergy list.

i was recently prescribed bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) for an infected burn. on the second day, i woke up with a really sore throat. by night, i had a fever, and the next morning, i had a sinus infection--which i used to get chronically from about 11 years ago, up until 4 years ago, in which time ive only had one. a day later i had a productive cough, semi bad but nowhere near as bad as the bronchitus the sinus infections would, after months, eventually turn into. those infectionswere clearly bacterial as whenever I did end up taking antibiotics, they always ended within a few days. I tried to ride them through to defer antibiotic resistance and such, and i cant rememeber if i ever did, because they WOULDNT go away. regardless, i went back to the dr this time after gettin...

I have a UTI and was taking urovec with tetracycline for 1 day and the discomfort of the uti has not subsided at all! I want to switch over and start taking amoxicillin asap which has worked really well in the past. Are there any complications I should be aware of by starting the amoxicillin 4 hours after taking the urovec with tetracycline? ## No, you can usually just make a smooth transition from one to the other. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, it does take more than one day for an antibiotic to work. Usually, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking it for a full 24 hours and you should see improvement after taking it for a full 3 days. Is there anything else I can help wi...

I was taking penicillin and now need to switch to a zpak. How long should I wait before starting the new meds? ## Unless your doctor or pharmacist has said otherwise, you should be able to just cleanly switch from one to the other. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. In most cases, they just have you replace the next required dose with the new one and proceed from there. Are you on any other medications?

I've been on By-Mycin 100 since Saturday for a sinus infection, instructed to take 2 to start and take 1 a day for ten days. I feel a lot worse since starting treatment. I have a cough that I did not have. The only thing they are doing is helping me get stuff out of my nose that I could not get before. ## Hello, Ellen! How are you? It is normal to experience some side effects, when taking antibiotics, as reported by the U.S. FDA, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Have things improved, at all? ## Things have improved but I'm cold and weather is warm I'm on tablets for my thyroid not due till July to have my bloods checked I'm on 50micrograms of eltroxin should I wait till July to have my bloods checked

I'm taking bactrim for a UTI. It turns out to be bacterial vaginosis. How long should I wait before starting the Flagyl? ## Hi Lou Lou, Sorry to hear about the bacterial vaginosis. When it comes to switching between different prescriptions I would always encourage you to contact your prescribing doctor and/or the pharmacist who filled it first, for specific and safe dosing instructions. However I do know that when I've taken antibiotics in the past and one didn't work as intended, I was instructed to switch over to a different antibiotic within a day's time. Again, this is just my experience. Your doctor may recommend a different wait time, but in my own opinion I'm not sure that it matters too much as long as they're not being taken back to back and overloading ...

I’m American, male, 25, 5”11 and weight 140. No smoking and currently taking Amox/k clav 875-125mg tablets (1 tablet two times a day for 7 days). Before that starting on the 12th I was taking amoxicillin 500mg (1 cap two times a day for 10 days) until the 19th then on the next day the 20th I started on the Amox/k and will finish this today. I’m not exactly sure when iit started maybe 3-4 days ago, but a spot on my face next to nose started to burn and has gotten worse now turning slightly reddish with burning stinging itchiness and a little flaky. My face around that area feels really greasy/oily, that the idea of scratching it makes me think I’ll peel/rub off some skin. It’s not really flaky right now, but I see something there that if my skin was dry woul...

I had an open sore on my left big toe, and I went swimming in a personal friends lagoon on their resort. A staph infection got into the sore and quickly spread throughout my left leg. The leg swelled to three times its normal size, and I spent three weeks in a hospital, where they bombarded it with antibiotics. That procedure was working, but the antibiotics had trace effects of blood thinner qualities. I am a heart patient that has had nine heart procedures, including a quadruple bypass. I cannot take ANY TYPE OF BLOOD THINNER without hemorrhaging. The antibiotics with thinners in them caught up with me, and I spent several trips to the hospital, severely hemorrhaging from the nose and mouth. I had to stop the antibiotics, and now the infection is starting to spread in my leg again. My...

I am concerned about starting Keflex because I just finished taking Amoxicillin. Will this be ok? ## Did you find out if it was okay to start taking this? On the drug info page it says to let your doctor know if you are taking any other antibiotics while taking keflex. But technically if you already stopped taking the amoxicililn then you might be safe to take keflex. Sometimes you might be prescribed a different antibiotic so that the bacteria don't build a tolerance in your body to the original one you were on. But it is definitely best to triple check with your doctor about this. Is it for the same infection or for a new infection as when you were first on the amoxicillin ? ## Yes, starting a new one, when you've already finished the other is generally not a problem, unless y...

I bought 100 amoxicillin caps about 3 years ago and stored them in a dark place and I was curious if they would still be good to take. ## does amoxicillin expire ## don't use it. amoxicillin goes bad a year from when you bought it. ## Actually, no, it does not go bad, it just loses efficacy, so it is not as strong or as potent as when you first bought, starting from about 18 months past the manufacture date. You should never self-diagnose or self-treat with antibiotics anyway, there are so many other conditions that will not respond to them, so they have no effect, and you of course run the risk of developing an antibiotic resistant strain of something with overuse, so please see your doctor. ## First of all, why do you just have the drug sitting around? Did you take it and not fini...

Learn more Metformin details here. It is likely a UTI as your doctor stated and you may need to return for another antibiotic if the one that was prescribed hasn't worked. my tooth flared out again, the dentist gave me erythromycinbs instead of pulling it. I had some left, so I starting taking it again. I didn't want it pulled. I know I am prolonging it being pulled. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash, diarrhea, and headache. There are no warnings stating that it has been known to cause bleeding. As to the tooth, just because you've taken an antibiotic, before, doesn't mean it won't work for you, again. You should take it, and see if it works. But yes, if you have a bad tooth that is beco...

Hello, I was diagnosed with pneumonia yesterday and prescribed the Zpack. I took the first dose which is 2 pills together. I found out after this that because I am on Effexor that that antibiotic is not recommended for me to take because it can interact with eachother and can cause heart issues. They are starting me on Augmentin today. Is it safe to take today being that I just took the first dose of the Zpack yesterday? ## It is always best to follow your doctor's prescribing instructions. If they say it is safe for you to switch, then you should do so. The FDA lists the typical antibiotic side effects as possibly including dizziness, diarrhea, headache, diarrhea, and non-allergic skin rash. I am not saying there aren't any possible risks, but the NIH lists them as being very r...

I developed a fever and was prescribed Taxim-O 200mg by my doctor, along with other medications. After taking it for three days, my fever completely subsided. I was instructed to continue the medication for a full week. However, starting from the fourth day, I began to experience side effects like dizziness, drowsiness, and headaches. Consequently, I stopped taking the medication on the fifth day. The recommended dose was two tablets per day. ## This is an antibiotic and those can be normal side effects of them, as reported by the U.S. FDA. They can also cause nausea, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. If you didn't finish the full course of it, you may not have fully eradicated the bacteria being treated, so you should inform your doctor, you may need to take a different antibiot...

I lost my sense of taste a few weeks ago. Mostly sweets. It comes back sometimes but always goes back out. I also have a sore throat and phlegm. Smell appears fine. The doctor thinks I may have GERD because of the throat issues and I do burp a lot. When I do burp there is no taste to it like heartburn but he says that there doesn't have to be. I took my first pill today and today was a decent tasting day. Within four hours of taking the pill my taste was gone again. I how this is a coincidence. I had tried 75 mg of Zantac before and didn't see a difference either way. Could taking the Tecta be making my taste worse if my issue is in fact not gerd? Also can it cause constipation?
