I’m American, male, 25, 5”11 and weight 140. No smoking and currently taking Amox/k clav 875-125mg tablets (1 tablet two times a day for 7 days). Before that starting on the 12th I was taking amoxicillin 500mg (1 cap two times a day for 10 days) until the 19th then on the next day the 20th I started on the Amox/k and will finish this today. I’m not exactly sure when iit started maybe 3-4 days ago, but a spot on my face next to nose started to burn and has gotten worse now turning slightly reddish with burning stinging itchiness and a little flaky. My face around that area feels really greasy/oily, that the idea of scratching it makes me think I’ll peel/rub off some skin. It’s not really flaky right now, but I see something there that if my skin was dry woul...

Actually, I am taking citirizine for my rhinitis allergies and skin allergies but i was also prescribed co-aleva. Please advise. ## What is the difference between co aleva and citirizine. Actually as advised by my doctor to stop taking citirizine while i am taking co aleva. ## Co Aleva contains an antihistamine and a steroid, so it used to treat allergic reactions, and swelling. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, acne, and fluid retention. Are you on any other medications?

The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, nervousness, insomnia, fluid retention, and acne. Is there anything else I can help with? Were you prescribed any other medications?

I am taking the antibiotic suflameth/trimethoprim. Can a have a couple glasses of wine with dinner? ## It is generally not advised, because it can cause a worsening of the side effects, so you could find yourself dealing with severe nausea, diarrhea, dizziness and etc. It's basically taking one drink and making seem as if you'd drunk two instead and so on and since the effects of the antibiotic will still be in your system, some issues may linger for a day, or two afterwards. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am not having any side effects. I was curious if the wine would interfere in any way with the positive effects of the antibiotic. I had two glasses of red wine last night and had no adverse reactions. ## On antibiotics and an still have 2 five ounce glasses of Re...

I do not take antibiotics because of severe reactions such as swollen eyelids and other issues.and also allergic to Flagyl. and possibly Levaquin. Also I believe antibiotics are over used and so far I have done without them for things everyone else takes them for such as Flu,colds and many other things. I use herbal products without most problems but now have a couple of painful tooth issues and perhaps some infections. I have no medical records to verify this due to many years of not having insurance or finances. I will see a dentist but having problems finding one that is more into natural products and low radiation x-rays. How can I ask for a Laboratory Culture in case I have to take some antibiotic: without causing a Dentist to become defensive and feel insulted.I am 70 yrs. old and...

Will Amoxicillin have an effect on my HepC? ## It should be okay, as long as your doctor approves and has prescribed it, while knowing you have Hep C. The FDA lists the typical side effects of antibiotics as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have copd and have developed bronchitis over the last week or so. I am allergic to penicillin. My doctor believes the bronchitis is bacterial and has prescribed a medication that the prescription insert says "May cause serious lung problems. Tell your doctor if you develop a cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain" all of which I have with copd and bronchitis. He also prescribed 5 days of prednisone and a pro air inhaler. What would be the best antibiotic given this information. (The medication is sulfameth/trimethoprim 800160mg TB.) ## There are risks associated with all medications and that warning is usually included with most antibiotics, due to the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions, thus, I really don't know what I could suggest that might be safer for you. ...

I went to the emergency room last week to get water drained from my elbow, the doctor gave me dicloxacill 500mg and said take this four times daily. After 1 week my chest looked red and I felt very tired. I stopped taking the medicen and took some benadryl per the er nurse. How long before the redness on my chest clears up? ## It is very hard to say, it could take several days. Since Dicloxacillin is an antibiotic, there are two possibilities for the cause of the reaction you had. One is a normal side effect of most antbiotics, they can cause a skin rash, but it is not an allergic reaction and will usually disappear when you have finished or stop taking the medication. The second, of course, is an allergic reaction. My guess is that if it didn't go away with the Benadryl, it was mor...

I am on round 3 of macrobid for a UTI that won't go away. Mainly, I have had two weeks of diarrhea and wonder how common this is. I am working with a new urogynecologist to get rid of UTI but wondered if I am going to have diarrhea forever. ## No, while diarrhea can be a side effect, as reported by the FDA, it should go away within a week or two of your finishing your course of treatment. Other side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, and non-allergic skin rash. Have they cultured the bacteria to see specifically what caused it? This may not be the right antibiotic to treat all types of bacteria that can cause UTI's. ## I've read that Macrobid can cause pulmonary problems, in particular a chronic cough. Patients should also be monitored if they are taki...

I am recovering from a severe case of pneumona. I was given Levofloxacin and following a recurrence I was given a steroid. Two weeks ago the Pulmonologist said my lungs were clear (x-ray). However I am still short of breath and have some discomfort in my chest. Is this just part of the recovery process? ## Are you aware of whether or not you have an allergy to sulfa? Only asking because there are a number of sulfa related allergy symptoms, which may explain what you're experiencing... "Lung reactions: Sulfa allergy can affect the lung, with pneumonia-like reactions, worsening asthma and vasculitis occurring." Referenced from: allergies.about.com/od/medicationallergies/a/sulfa.htm I hope this info helps!

I started taking this medication on Fri a week ago. I took my last pill thursday morning. the incision scar from my knee replacements are all red and inflamed. My knees feel warm. Is this a bad reaction or what is going on. ## Hello, Sivrfox! How are you? I think you need to see your doctor, as soon as possible. Though it is rare, some antibiotics can cause some tendon problems and that could be what's going on here. Learn more Nitrofurantoin details here. Has it improved, any? ## I also have knee replacements and suffered knee problems the day I was finishing this product. Just wondering how many others have?

Hi I started taking sulfamethy trimethoprim 800160 tabs yesterday eveing for a cyst in the not long before I got a real bad headache this morning I was fine but as soon as I drink it an hr or past an my headache came back ## Hi, Jane! Very sorry about the headaches. It could be from this antibiotic, since it is sulfa based, it has been known to cause some very odd side effects in some people that take it. I had a very bad experience with it myself last year, it gave me a rash, hives, headaches, joint/muscle aches, swollen glands and etc. Learn more Bactrim details here. Have you contacted your doctor? Adverse reactions to this antibiotic usually continue to get worse, so you may need to switch to a different one.

I am prescribed Bactrim DS 160/800mg (2) Double Strength tabs every 12 hrs. for a A.Baumannii infection from the OR which took me back to the OR to remove the infection now as I heal I am on Double Strength 800mg x 12 hrs. Has anyone else taken this much dosage and for how long? Kind of bummed that this bacteria was hanging out in the OR in the first place. Metallic taste in mouth constantly other than that I am tolerating it well. This SUPERBUG originated in IRAQ now in Southern California ## This dosage is actually very commonly used in adults, so it's not unusual. The regular strength is usually used in children or the elderly that may be more susceptible to side effects or adverse reactions. The FDA lists the possible side effects as including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-al...

Looking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous. I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy. I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days. Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful. Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects. Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised! ## From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with ...
