I have some sort of infection on my left elbow. I have been on bactrim for 36 hours and the redness and swelling have went 4 to 6 inches further than it was. How long will bactrim take to decrease the swelling and redness? ## The general rule for antibiotics is that if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after taking them for a full 24 hours, and you should start to see improvement after taking them for a full 72 hours, according to NIH reports. I have a cut on my leg and my Dr gave me Bactrim Ds for Cellulitis infection. Is this the correct med for treating CELLULITIS? ## Hi Marie, Most of the time, Cellulitis treatment involves antibiotics taken by mouth and is later followed-up by your doctor. You could also be given painkillers if necessary. Bactrim is a pretty serious antibiotic, so I think it would be vital to use it over other options when the situation absolutely calls for it. I am suffering from cellulitis following a hip operation in December. The ulcer/sore is in the back of my leg near the shin bone, making it difficult for me to see or treat. have I spent 9 days in hospital in January on an Intravenous drip, which ruled out DVT & have taken 2 lots of antibiotics but the problem is still with me, So can you suggest what I do next, it is so sore & painful. ## What else has your doctor recommended for further treatment options? Following knee replacement surgery I was diagnosed 2 x 100mg Gabapentin. Three times a day. After discharge I had to get a renewed prescription and I have now noticed that the Pharmacist has given me 300mg Gabapentin capsules by mistake. I have a bad stye on my lower eyelid and it is causing my eye to become red. Can I use Amoxicillin-Clavulanic acid 875mg for my eye? Have had this infection only 2xs prior in my 53 years.. Been on Methadone Maint. for many years.. From what I could gather, the usual adult dose of Cephalexin (in the treatment of Cellulitis), is 500mgs orally every 6 hours, for up to 7-10 days. Depending on how severe each individual case is, other more powerful antibiotics may also be recommended, such as Vancomycin, Daptomycin, or Linezolid.
