I've been taking sulfamethoxazole/tmp ds tab for seven days and the nausea, chills, shakes, hot feeling, increased heart rate, stomach upset and pain, dizziness, diarrhea and vertigo have gotten worse each day. I was told by dr to stop taking it but prescribed another antibiotic to start. I am afraid to take the new med. I feel like I'm dying and can't go through this again. What are my options? I'm being treated for a bladder infection. ## Some of those are rare side effects to the medication, which is a generic for Bactrim and your doctor was correct in telling you to stop taking it. However, all medications carry the risk of side effects and if you have an infection, your risks are far greater if you don't have it properly treated, because it could cause serious hea...

I tried benadryl which did help a little but is there an specific active ingredient in antihistimine that does better than others for possible drug allergies? ## my problem is seve itching on both my legs. If I put some oil or cream the itching is reduced. Some times even this won't work.At that time if I take Anti-histamine it will reduce after some time. Can you please diagonise my problem. I have one more problem. Alergic Sinusitis. Is there any connection between these two problems ## I'm sorry, but no one is going to be able to diagnose the problem and offer treatment options from just a short post on the Internet. Have you consulted a doctor? If Benadryl didn't really work, there are other antihistamines on the market, but since I don't know where you are located, ...

I was prescribed macrodantin for a UTI and I had a severe allergic reaction to it. Can i switch to amoxicillin right away? And how long will it take for the allergic reaction to subside? ## What symptoms did you experience? When I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic it took several weeks for them to fully clear up. You can switch, as long as your doctor approves. The NIH lists the typical side effects of Amoxicillin as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. Are you on any other medications?

does amox/k clav react adversely to dairy products? ## Hello, Cap21! How are you? No, there are no known issues between taking this antibiotic, which is a generic for Augmentin, and dairy products. It isn't that they react adversely, when there is an issue, it's just that dairy products coat the stomach and may prevent absorption of as much of the antibiotic as normal. However, as I said, it is not an issue with this particular one. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I was prescribed Zoloft and I took it one time and it made me feel worse than better. Was it my nerves telling me that or was it a reaction to the pill? ## Zoloft and any other antidepressant is not a quick fix. It takes time for your body to adjust to the meds and sometimes the meds don't work for you. It is extremely important to have a doctor monitoring your medication so they can find the right one for you and the right dosage. I started taking Zoloft and I started feeling worse before it started working, but as the dr. gradually increased the dosage and my body adjusted...I feel better than ever! ## I had the same thing happen to me I felt so bad but I stuck with it and slowly my body ajusted and I feel like a normal person again. You just have to deceide if its worth it. I fel...

Used Lunesta and Ambien and both times had severe reactions that left my body rigid. I felt like I was 'out of body' Very scary. ## It definitely sounds like the sedative hypnotics are causing an adverse reaction for you. There are other options that your doctor can try, including some of the antipsychotic medications that can help with insomnia problems, but do not carry the same types of side effects since they are a completely different class of medications.

This is my second time noticing that I have some problems taking solmux 500mg. The first time was every time I coughed, I could feel so much pain in my stomach. My coughing had to be long and hard. The next day I went to the doctor, who instead prescribed me with an antibiotic. This time after a few hours of taking the first solmux capsule, I felt so much itching from my shoulders down to my whole back to my butt area, then to my chest. I had went to sleep but I just suddenly woke up because my front lips were swelling already. The itching of my skin went throughout all of my body. At first I thought maybe I got an allergic reaction from the last night's dinner with fish on the table but when I searched the internet I came across some info that a solmux allergy could be "skin ra...

I took peginterferon shots once a week with 6 ribavirin tablets a day. I had skin reactions and scatched all the hair off my body in my sleep from my neck down. I may soon go back on the treatment since they have a second shot (don't know name) and they think I may have a chance. Is there anything to counter the ribavirin reaction and rash? ## Have you discussed it with your doctor? You may be able to use an antihistamine to help prevent it from happening, again, but only your doctor can help you decide if it's safe for you to use one. ## I did the 48 week course of Interferon & Ribavirin. At the end of it my Hep 'C' was gone; six months later it was back. I too am about to start the same course again but with an added new drug, one of a possible two. They're sti...

I am taking Bactrim for a UTI and have side effects of hands shaking, gassy stomach, headache, loss of appetite, and irritability. There are 4 pills left and I am afraid to finish them. Is a substitute for Bactrim DS tablet SMX-TMP DS TAB? The script is 2 tablets twice a day. Should I just discontinue them or reduce them to one a day? ## Those can be normal side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, and diarrhea. And SMX-TMP DS is just an abbreviation for the ingredients in Bactrim DS. An allergic reaction is listed by the FDA as possibly including fever, chills, trouble breathing, hives, and swelling. This is a very strong antibiotic, though it is not usually the first choice for a UTI. Are you on any other medications? Have yo...

I took Prozac for mild depression for 5 days. On that 5th night I woke up having a terrible anxiety attack! Went to hospital, Dr said stop taking Prozac. So I did, had another bad attack 5 days later. It has been 24 days since i last took prozac and it's still affecting me, just not as badly. Get smaller anxiety attacks, depressed feelings, nervousness. Anyone else had this experience? How long until I feel back to myself and the drug is out of my system? I know it effects everyone differently. I just want my life back. ## Hello, Amanda! How are you? Like most other antidepressants, Prozac usually makes some symptoms worse for awhile, before it helps. However, many feel that is a good sign that it will help the person greatly, but this is not proven. I take it for Perimenopause symp...

I’m American, male, 25, 5”11 and weight 140. No smoking and currently taking Amox/k clav 875-125mg tablets (1 tablet two times a day for 7 days). Before that starting on the 12th I was taking amoxicillin 500mg (1 cap two times a day for 10 days) until the 19th then on the next day the 20th I started on the Amox/k and will finish this today. I’m not exactly sure when iit started maybe 3-4 days ago, but a spot on my face next to nose started to burn and has gotten worse now turning slightly reddish with burning stinging itchiness and a little flaky. My face around that area feels really greasy/oily, that the idea of scratching it makes me think I’ll peel/rub off some skin. It’s not really flaky right now, but I see something there that if my skin was dry woul...

proair Hfa ? causing swollen lips. How long does drug remain in your system. ## Hello, Maureen! How are you? How long had you been using it, when the reaction occurred? That would be a factor in how long it may last. And any time you have a severe allergic reaction like this, it is very important to see a doctor, because it may require medical treatment. You may need antihistamines and a steroid to bring the swelling down.

Hi My daughter is 15 and was prescribed prednisone 20mg for inflammation brought on by an upper respiratory infection. She took the first dose about 1/2 hour after a meal and within 1/2 hour, she was experiencing severe abdominal cramping and nausea. She was able to vomit and it was clear with a few solids but mostly clear. I spoke with the doctor after the pharmacist recommended that it might be too much for her. The doctor said to continue and he called in anti-nausea. I really want to stop because she was so violently ill. Since it was only the first dose, will she be okay to stop. I know that it is my decision to do so but I just would like a second opinion. ## I'm am so glad you posted the question. I thought that maybe I was overreacting. I took one 50mg pill of prednisone bef...

We were in an area of high mold content--Xolair does not help mold allergies. Started having asthma, and began prednisone. 6 days after starting prednisone I had my Xolair injection (Doc said it would be fine). 2 days following Xolair injection my asthma got much worse despite increasing prednisone to 40mg. Has anyone had a similar experience, i.e. Xolar injection, then onset of severe asthma. ## Hello, Rk! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. You actually need to be on the Xolair for awhile, before it will start working to reduce your asthma symptoms. Having an allergy attack that close to it being administered didn't even give it a chance to start working to prevent it. It doesn't work like antihistamines and rescue inhalers do. I finished 10 days worth of amox-clav 875 and the last day I developed dark urine, a whole body itch, nausea and loss of appetite. This has lasted for 4 days now and is worsening. The pharmacist said to take benedryl, but how dangerous and how common are these side effects? Also, how long will they last? It's very worrisome. This is a dangerous drug! ## Did you also experience diarrhea, while you were taking it? Everything except the body itch, sounds like it could be due to dehydration, which frequently happens when antibiotics cause diarrhea and people don't up their fluid intake to accommodate for the loss. You can read more Augmentin side effects here. The itching could be related to dehydration, as well, but it's more difficult to pinpoint, because it could also be rela...

TY ## Have you consulted your doctor? I keep having a racing heart and I only took 25 mg of macrodantin and knew I was in trouble pretty quickly. The ER who was not interested in macrodantin did the usual tests and said I could go home. So, when will this leave? I had hives before a long time ago but never the racing heart and of course, my doctor is unavailable or I would have gone to them instead of the Urgent Care and the ER who didn't give me any instructions on what to do about the Macrobid - how long before it leaves? I know everyone is different. I must take the cake. I'd rather take erthromycin for a really long time which is somewhat resistant but it's better than a racing heart and is useful for keeping my strength up while I work on strengthening my immune system and/or non antibiotics to treat utis. ...
