Being a pain patient for 20+ years, and having panic attacks daily have given me the knowledge of every medication and how they work or do not work. ## Hi Aeon, How's it going? Just wanted to say thanks for taking the time out to help others with your extensive background as pain/anxiety patient. I realize there are a lot of other people on here who just want to help, but can't always understand what these patients really go through enough to offer the right kind of advice - that ideally a doctor should be giving.... But in my opinion, nothing really beats learning from 20+ years of first hand experience. I hope you're able to do a lot of good with that knowledge. ## Aeon, I am a recovering Tramadol addict. Been clean 5 1/2 mnths. To get off Tramadol the addiction psychiatri...

I had several medical issues in a short period of time: Prostate cancer, duodenal cancer, spinal stenosis, regular kidney stones, and basal cell carcinoma. It started with prostate cancer and within 3 months a deodunal cyst. The severe anxiety began & followed with the others mentioned above. I had 4 different psychotherapists that did little. Other than Cognitive Behavioral Therapy I did get help, but not completely. I tried several ssri's & snri' - too many to mention, that caused more problems. Finally my psychiatrist prescribed anti-anxiety medication that did the trick for me. Currently, I take Diazepam regularly, and it keeps my anxiety problems manageable. If I had to continue to read the negativity of Benzodiazepines I'd be a goner; as far as anti-depressants...

my question is I was on lorazapan for anxiety but the drowsiness got me in trouble is their any anxiety medication that won't cause drowsiness. I told my Dr. not to prescribe it for me anymore. My question is, I need something, is their anything else I can take. ## Hello, Eileen! How are you? I'm very sorry about the problem you've had. You may do better with one of the SSRI antidepressants that can be used to treat anxiety, such as Prozac or Zoloft. They've both been successful at helping many people with anxiety, but since you take them all the time, your body gets used to the medications and the side effects, such as drowsiness, wear off after a few weeks. Other side effects may include nausea, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with?

## PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THIS DRUG IS MOST COMINLY USED FOR ## See quoted text below: Atarax is an antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of common anxiety and tension and, in combination with other medications, to treat anxiety that results from physical illness. It also relieves itching from allergic reactions and can be used as a sedative before and after general anesthesia. Antihistamines work by decreasing the effects of histamine, a chemical the body releases that narrows air passages in the lungs and contributes to inflammation. Antihistamines reduce itching and swelling and dry up secretions from the nose, eyes, and throat. ## my daughter has recently put on 25mg of atarax she isonly 11yrs old and was 10 at the time it was perscribed to her. she had been having panic attacks, ...

I have been diagnosed with ptsd by two different doctors after the suicide of my husband. these doctors will only give me benadryl for anxiety with an antidepressant. the benadryl only makes me sleepy. ## Hello, Bsquirrel! How are you? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. What antidepressant have they given you? Many of them are effective at treating anxiety and are the preferred treatment choice, because it helps keep it under control all the time, unlike many of the other medications that are only taken as needed. ## you need Prazosin my dear... will take away your nightmares. antidepressants are garbage i think. the blood pressure medication works very good for night mares

I have epilepsy and my partial seizures plague me through the night and cause anxiety after every episode. I tried taking xanax, but it seemed to compound the problem. Is anxiety a possible side effect of this anti-anxiety drug? could it be that I just need to get accustomed to it? ## It's actually very well known in the medical community that most medications can cause the opposite of their intended effect in some people that take them. It isn't known why they do so, but in some people antidepressants cause depression and suicidal thoughts, medications to lower blood pressure may raise it, anti-anxiety medications can cause anxiety and etc. This means that it's most likely just not the right medication for you to take and you may need to try a different one. Have you talked...

I have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, with which grand mal seizures are not associated with. I have absence seizures, where you don't respond to someone calling you or you not responding to something or moving around but in a state of unable to know what you are doing. They only last a short time. They are not grand mal seizures like falling on the floor and flopping your body around and then afterwards need to sleep for long hours. I want to know which medications are good for this condition. I am on Clonazepam and Lamictal, which when they first went on the market were only for absence seizures not for anxiety or Bipolar depression like they are also now used for. Thank you for your anticipated help. ## Hello, Candy! How are you? Are your current medications working for you? Just because...

Does this patch cause anxiety to become worse? ## The Flector patch contains the active ingredient Diclofenac, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory. There are no warnings included that suggest it can worsen anxiety, but medications can affect everyone differently. What has your doctor or pharmacist said about it? The most common side effects can include: nausea, headache and stomach irritation. Read more: ## I believe that it does. As soon as a began taking this medication, I experienced horrific nightmares and woke up with extreme chest pains and trouble calming down. After the first two nights of this, I will no longer mess with this drug. I have never experienced panic attacks such as this. I believe it was directly related to the drug. Are/ were your symptoms similar?

Was just making sure of what it really is for they gave it to me for anxiety because its safe to take while pregnant. ## Hydroxyzine is an antihistamine, so it's main intent is to treat allergic reactions, but it causes sedation and calmness as side effects, so it's commonly prescribed for treating anxiety. However, it is not considered safe to use during the first trimester of pregnancy and, even during the last 6 months, it is recommended for use only if there are no other alternatives and the benefits clearly outweigh the possible risks, since there is a lack of clinical data on its safety. Learn more Hydroxyzine details here. How far along are you? ## I'm only about one month

I want to know how well trazodone treats severe anxiety? I see that it treats mostly sleep disorders and depression but how does it treat anxiety if it's mostly for depression and sleep? ## Most antidepressants can treat various mental health issues, as well as depression and insomnia. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, drowsiness, and weight changes. Has it been prescribed for you? Are you on any other medications?

white, round pill, blank on one side and an M with an underscore all the way across the pill and a 70 underneath the underscore; M over 70 ## The tablet is ''clorazepate 15 milligrams'' (brand name Tranxene), which is a member of the anti-anxiety family of medications called ''benzodiazepines'' (other common examples of the family include Valium and Xanax).

The top rated ones have habit forming chemicals, like Xanax, Vallium. Are there any medicines that aren't addictive but still effective? ## I am afraid that ANYTHING you take regularly carries a risk of becoming dependent or addicted to it. The main thing of importance is to always see your doctor regularly and only take all medications exactly as prescribed. You are correct that those in the Benzodiazepine family are the most habit forming. You may wish to ask your doctor about some of the antidepressants, such as: Paroxetine: Or Pristiq: Some of them have been used to treat anxiety and have less addictive potential than the Benzodiazpines. Do you have any other questions? ## Yea i already considered anti depressants, but do they really work for anxiety and fear? The main thing abo...

Hello. I suffer from Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD). I have suffered from it since I was 6 years of age. My doctor has always had me on Zoloft, but I don't think it's working. He keeps increasing my dosage & it's making me feel sick & irritable. With the Zoloft, I'm taking a seizure medication called Tranxene that's supposed to work like Xanax. These medications put together have made me extremely depressed & anxious. I heard about Abilify & I was wondering if it is prescribed to help Anxiety. Also, what are the side effects for teens? ## No, Abilify isn't used just to treat anxiety, because it is a very potent antipsychotic. And yes, the Tranxene can be used to treat anxiety. But my main question is what kind of doctor are you seeing? I reali...

Looking for ideas of alternative anxiety treatments other than benzodiazepenes. I do not know if I can be prescribed benzos due to my medical history. I was wondering if anybody had any ideas or other alternatives that I may ask my doctor about? ## BuSpar is an option, the FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight loss. It is not considered addictive. Many SSRI and SSNRI antidepressants can also treat anxiety. It really depends on which one works best for you. Are you on any other medications?

I have bad anxiety whereas my hands and neck are trembling, plus I have always felt tired and have low confidence. My doctor advised me to take Escitalopram and Clozel-beta. Will this help? ## The Lexapro (escitalopram) may work for your anxiety but you'll have to take it for nearly a month to see if it has any therapeutic effects. Being that it's an anti-depressant it would also likely improve your self esteem. These SSRI medications are often hit and miss (meaning they work for some people but not others). They are generally the first line treatment in the psychiatric field for anxiety. The Clozel-Beta is a clonazepam .5 mg and Propranolol 20 mg formulation. The clonazepam is a benzodiazepine which should immediately provide relief for your anxiety and associated symptoms. The...

I was given dilaudid a year ago for rotator cuff surgery. My physical therapy was an incredibly challenging recovery with pain meds required and the vicadin was not enough. I have some leftover 4 mg of the dilaudid. Theoretically, and statistically it is recommended to throw out all unused pain medications. I am mindful not to take it daily. I have no side effects and no desire to take it on a daily basis. I have tried clonapin and ativan for anxiety and they feel most helpful as a sleeping aid. With my occasional (2 to 4 times a week) one 4 mg dilaudid, I feel relaxed, calm and incredibly productive. But I also feel like maybe I am an addict (in denial) and need to check myself into a rehab. In all honestly I have tried anti-depressants and the anxiety meds listed above and dilaudid do...
