My son switched from Concerta to the generic version Adderall (b973 orange pill) several months ago. Recently he has been experiencing the following problems - sleeplessness, extreme restlessness, loss of appetite, headaches, upset stomach and even had a bout with vomiting one day. I would like him to change medications but how do we wean him and what medications can you suggest? He is an adult, but does not think it is the medication but believes he needs some other medication to counteract this. Please give me your thoughts. ## You really shouldn't adjust his medications on your own, you need to consult with his doctor about the problems he is having. These are normal side effects to the Mixed Amphetamine salts, for most people they taper off after a few weeks, however, some peopl...

I am an adult female who does not have ADHD or ADD. I just wanted to lose 20lbs. My Doctor prescribed IC AMPHETAMINE SALTS 20 MG TABLET 2 times a day. I have no health problems. 1st pill I took made me jittery and a little dizzy. So now I am starting out with half a tablet once a day because I do drink an energy drink that is actually healthy for you and does not make you jittery or crash like most energy drinks do. My question is : Is this safe for me to take for 2 to 3 months? After reading all the side effects, it is scary. I am having a hard time losing weight since I had my son. I had him when I was 42yrs. old and I have never had a weight problem. This extra 20lbs is putting me in a depression but I am afraid of the side effects. I have only taken this pill 3 days. What do you rec...

MY SON STARTED TAKING THIS MEDICATION A WEEK AGO AN STARTED HAVING STRANGE SIDE EFFECTS A TWITCH WHEN HE GOES TO TALK / EXPRESS HIM SELF ,AN DONT KNO WHAT TO DO. ## Anytime you are concerned about unusual side effects, you should contact a doctor or pharmacist immediately. They could be the sign of a serious reaction. even if they they aren't, he may have been put on too high of a dosage or this may not be the correct medication for him to use. That said, the twitching can be a normal side effect to this medication, since it is a stimulant. He may also experience nausea, insomnia and weight loss. It should taper off, after a few weeks, as his body adjusts to the medication, however, if it doesn't or if it gets worse, you should contact his doctor immediately. Read more on the me...

What's the difference between Amphetamine Salts 20 Mg and Amphetamine Tabs 20 Mg. Both say generic for adderall... I'm trying to find out if this is a different medication, or maybe extended release vs. instant? Anyone know? ## Hello, Julz! How are you? There is no difference in what you listed, the pharmacy or prescriber just wrote each one a little differently, which is common. There is no exact way that they have to write it. The FDA classifies this medication as a stimulant that is most commonly used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight loss, insomnia and anorexia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## amphetamine salts are a mixture of 4 amphetamine...

My 9 year ols nephew is on 40 mg a day this seems too much! He seems distant and depressed all the time, should I be concerned? ## Hi Kerry, From what I could gather, the usual pediatric dose can range from 5mg up to a maximum of 60mg once daily. The extended release capsules are not recommended for anyone age 6 or under, so I can only speculate that his body (from a biological standpoint) may not even be ready to handle this medication. Safety guidelines for this medication note that if any bothersome adverse reactions appear (e.g., insomnia, anorexia, or depression in this case), the dosage should be reduced. I think it's perfectly ok and natural to be concerned for someone who looks depressed and distant. This would probably be attributed to side effects and/or too high of a dose...

My girlfriend takes Amphetamine salts 20mg and when she took it about 2 hours later she had a couple of mixed drinks and she started acting really messed up. Can you drink when you're taking this med? ## Hi bill, Based on my own research I dont think mixing the two is a very good idea; simply because amphetamines increase heart rate/blood pressure and alcohol thins the blood. This could actually result in heart failure if not done properly. I've also heard from those with personal experience that alcohol works against speed/amphetamine, weakening its effects. I hope this advice helps! ## With most medications, including this one, when you drink while you are on them, it can cause severe aggravation of the side effects, basically making them much more pronounced and potent. I have ADD and take Amphetamine Salts. Lately my feet and ankles have been badly swollen. Is this caused from the Amphetamine Salts? Should I be worried if my feet and ankles are swelling from using amphetamine salts? What is my alternative in medication for ADD if the Amphetamine Salts is causing the swelling? ## It would be best to consult your doctor. In and of itself, Adderall doesn't cause edema, but it can cause elevated blood pressure and elevated heart rate, which can cause edema and, if that is the case, it can be dangerous and needs to be treated. Before recommending an alternative medication, you need to get to the root of this problem. Other side effects of this medication, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include headache, irritability, nervousness and insomnia. How l...

How can I safely stop taking amphetamine salts. I am currently taking 20 mg a day. My age is 66, I am female. ## How long have you been on them? To avoid the worst withdrawal effects, the best idea is usually to slowly taper off of them, by gradually reducing the dose, over several weeks. Have you consulted your doctor?

I have noticed that by taking the amphetmine salts (adderall) for many years, my memory has deteriorated. I am 45 years old and that should not be. Has any testing been done to know if I am correct? It is strange. I am focusing & memory is strong w/the medication in my system, but as soon as it wears off, memory is very bad. ## It is most likely due to the withdrawal of it wearing off, according to NIH reports. Other withdrawal effects may include nausea, fever, chills, and anxiety. That is generally how it works with any stimulant medication. What dosage are you currently taking? Are you on any other medications? This one is most commonly used to treat ADHD.

Is there a difference between the to types of drugs? My doctor changed them and I wonder why this was done I'm now on the combo? ## Hello, Susan! How are you? No, they are the same thing, just a different way of writing it, but both are generics for Adderall. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, nervousness and insomnia. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Can you cut the 20mg of d-amphetamine salt combo tabs in half? I have been on the 20 mg for 2 days and didn't feel any difference.

Any and all input is appreciated and any recommendations on how and where to get best generic. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? No, this is not new, Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals has been in business for many years and manufacturing this one for quite awhile. It has passed the same efficacy and quality standards as all others that are available on the U.S. market. This medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, insomnia and anorexia. I'm looking for a free 30 mg instant release coupon # 60. ## Hello, Chas! How are you? I'm sorry, several people have asked about this recently, but there are currently no discount coupons or assistance programs for Adderall, since it's not considered a life sustaining medication. It's also very rare to have anything available for generics, since by their very nature, they are already cheaper. This medication may be habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, insomnia and anorexia. Have you tried checking prices at different pharmacies in your area? ## You can do a search by your zip code for the cheapest prices at pharmacies in your area. When I did this I noticed a 50 dollar difference in prices at some places. Also try looking up prescriptio...

I was recently diagnosed with Adult ADD and have been prescribed Amphetamine Salts (Generic for Adderall) for a few months now. The initial dosage was one 10mg tablet/ three times a day and recently my Doctor upped the dosage to one 30mg tablet/ twice a day. I know that overall this has been very beneficial for me but I cant help but wonder if the generic brand (IR Amphetamine Salts) has less of the active ingredient, and more unnecessary side effects(irritability, fatigue). I know that while the active ingredients are likely to be the same, the "fillers" usually are not and even the active ingredients can vary up to 10%. I also know that everybody reacts differently depending on their bodies' make-up as well as the drugs and I have always reacted sensitively to any kind of ...

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and took mostly Ritalin. I stopped somewhere around 4th or 5th grade. By the time college rolled around, I knew that my concentration issues were likely due to ADHD, so I got retested at a psychology facility (it was something like 6-7 hours of various tests) and was formally diagnosed with ADHD again at the age of 19. That was 7 years ago. I took amphetamine salts (short-acting) generic for several years with no side effects that I noticed. I stopped for almost two years during pregnancy and breastfeeding because I really didn't want to be taking a stimulant that could potentially affect my unborn child or get into my breast milk. When I finished (which was a couple months ago) I decided to get back onto the medicine. Since my insurance changed,...

color blue cor 132 imprinted was prescribed for my low blood pressure along with provigil 20 mg for fatigue. I have ms and not sure why the meds are prescribed for me. ## The mixed Amphetamine salts, which would commonly be referred to as Adderall, is a stimulant, it is normally used to treat conditions such as ADHD and narcolepsy. One of its side effects is that, as a stimulant, it can raised your blood pressure. The Provigil is another medication that is commonly used to treat Narcolepsy and fatigue syndromes. Thus, I can only conclude that your doctor probably wants to bring your BP up to normal levels and to help you with the fatigue you are experiencing from the MS. IS there anything else I can help you with? ## Anyone taking amphetamine salts for ms fatigue?

I was diagnosed with ADHD and was prescribed Adderall (I believe the bottle was 10mg of amphetamine salts but I think it had a word that started with a d like Dextroamphetamine maybe?) Anyways, I tooke it more than a few times and it was SUCH A HELP you could tell the difference. So then I got my refill and was pretty happy. However, today is my first day taking the refill, and although it is the same 10mg dosage as before, I feel no effects.... My body should be use to the adderall because I've taken it before, so why am I not experiencing any of the effects at all? It feels like I was given sugar pills haha. However the pills look exactly like before. Should I just continue to take them through out the week and hope they begin to work? If they don't what should I tell my docto...

I HAVE BEEN TAKING GENERIC ADDERALL which has always been called amphetamine salts. My last script instead of saying amphetamine salts substituted for adderall it says amphetamine salts substituted for amphetamine salt combo? What's this mean? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? It all means the same thing, just different ways of stating it. Adderall actually contains Amphetamine and Dextroamphetamine, which is usually listed as mixed Amphetamine salts, so what you've seen are just different variations of the drug name.
